Extraction (2020)
If Dan Brown and the producers of Homeland worked on a film set in Bangladesh
Bangladesh has been one of the most obscure countries in the world. Other than it's obvious poverty, not much is known about this country. Extraction has been one of the first appearances of Bangladesh in Hollywood. And it is a complete insult to Bangladeshi people. Bangladesh is not a great country. There is rampant poverty, large economic disparity, the issue of terrorism, and rise in illegal drugs and gambling. But in this movie, Bangladesh is portrayed as if it is Yemen or a generic African country. Dhaka city is shown as yellow, as if it has jaundice. Also the city is shown to be near a jungle. There are no jungles in near Dhaka or in the Dhaka district. The nearest jungles would be around Sylhet or Khulna. Land around Dhaka is mostly farmland. Also Dhaka is portrayed as lawless with the police and "Elite"units under one drug lord. There is no such unit called an "Elite". The closest would be the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). Portraying them as under the payroll of drug lords is insulting as they were the ones who have been carrying out a controversial crackdown against them and illegal gamblers recently. The movie also features children walking around with AK-47 SMGs in public, like as if Bangladesh is a war-torn African country. Bangladesh is one of those emerging economies, on par with Vietnam. Dhaka city may contain slums, but they do not make up the entire city. The movie also shows Hindi songs playing in every house. Bangladesh also has a music industry. Also, the local Bangla spoken is nothing like the one spoken in Bangladesh. It sounds more like a West Bengali accent like those spoken in Kolkata. They not only did not shoot the movie in Bangladesh, filming mostly in Ahmedabad in India with some scenes filmed in Thailand. There were also no Bangladeshi actors used with most of the locals being played by Indians such as Rudraksh Jaiswal. Also one the cast members is an Iranian named Golshifteh Farahani. Iranians are not the same as Bangladeshis. Also Iranians should stop playing Indians, Bangladeshis, and Arabs as a lot of them are willing to play negative stereotypes of Muslims and Arabs. Navid Negahan being one. The inaccuracies are as bad as those of Dan Brown novels such as Digital Fortress, which got Seville wrong, and Homeland, which gets things wrong about Beirut, Islamabad, and Islam. People try to justify these by using the "it's fiction"excuse. Other than those inaccuracies, the movie also follows a white savior narrative. Our hero Tyler Rake is a typical white action hero. Although not an American, as Rake is made Australian to match his actor Chris Hemsworth, he has traits of a typical white American action hero. Just to save one child, he massacres many Bangladeshis. The movies plot is partly borrowed from the far superior Man on Fire, starring the Denzel Washington. The former atleast wasn't a modern "Might Whitey" story and had actual Mexican actors for a movie set in Mexico. People seem to really think this is best movie since John Wick. This movie has nothing in common with John Wick other than the brilliant fight scenes. It is more of a spiritual successor to Beirut (2018), due to its white savior narrative and inaccurate portrayal of a certain city in a developing country.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
A real movie based on DC Comics, not some drama that tries to use DC characters and butcher them
Ignore the critics on journalism and YouTube. Watch it without comparing it to the Marvel Cinematic Universe because the DC Extended Universe is a whole new breed of animal. Finally Warner Bros and DC has made a decent movie that is enjoyable. Batman and Superman in the big screen with Wonder Woman by their side. This movie is one things fans had been waiting for and finally got it. Unlike previous DC movies, this one actually has a DC Comics feel and is like watching the DC animated movies with a live-action cast. Ben Affleck was great as Batman. He has detective skills, a proper costume that does no look fake and a better voice. Christian Bale as Batman lacked detective skills and preferred to ask business partner Lucius Fox for gadgets fight villains, had an armored costume that looked fake and had a voice that sounded like a cross between a chain-smoker and an drunkard. He actually felt like Bruce Wayne out of costume, unlike Bale who felt like a male version of Veronica Lodge from Archie Comics. Gal Gadot was great as Wonder Woman and the costume looked perfect, despite not being the same colors as the comics. The plot is not as rushed as people think. The reason Batman hates Superman here is not because of the damage resulting in the death of many people, including the mother of a child that Bruce comforts at the beginning. That also explains that the Martha seen had more to do than their mothers sharing the same name. It was also bout how Batman realizes that Superman is also an average human being with family, not just a deity that would end up taking over the world. That would also explain the so-called "Knightmare" scene. It is how the two heroes fear their morality is at stake. That would explain Batman using guns and killing people and Superman having an army of followers. The death of Superman does not mean Superman is gone forever. The casket and grave shaking mean Superman is still alive as his Kryptonian anatomy makes it easy for his body to heal on Earth. A message to Lex Luthor haters, the one that appears in this movie is just the beginning. A lot of people complain that this Luthor felt less like Luthor and more like the Joker or Riddler. The cold and diabolical personality of Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor will be shown in later movies. That may also explain the shaved head at the end of the movie with Luthor having a more cold facial expression. Also saying that Lex Luthor here is totally butchered seem like hypocrisy because no one here says that Baron Zemo in Captain America Civil war or Penguin on Gotham is butchered, because they are different from the comics. The Doomsday here was very scary, scarier than any version used outside comics. A lot of people complain why The Flash's cameo was unnecessary and the movie is crowded with too many heroes. Other than Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, the others were just cameos to set up for future films. Yet no one complains that Captain America Civil War is overcrowded, even though almost every hero who appears here plays a major role. They also do not seem to call Spiderman's cameo unnecessary, even though it is the same as the Flash. A lot of people complain it is too dark, it is too serious and lacks humor. BvS is based on some of the darkest DC graphic novels and DC cannot make a light movie aimed at solely entertaining children like Marvel due to failed attempts like Superman Returns and Green Lantern. Asp critic and Marvel fanboys should be careful what they wish for because the last time they complained a DC movie was dark, the result was Batman & Robin, which is one the worst movies ever made.
The Batman (2004)
Severely underrated
This series is a victim of being bashed by fans and critics due to not being like the predecessor. The Batman, aired originally from 2004 to 2008, is a series with ups and downs. People did not like the redesigns for the characters or the tone, but what's the problem. Unlike the live-action Gotham, which airs on FOX, this series keeps everyone in character, rather than changing them to a state similar to Goku from Dragonball Evolution or Deadpool from X-Men Origins Wolverine. The series may be light, but it gets darker as it reaches the 4th season. The series is still watchable. Batman is perfectly portrayed. Since it is set during Bruce Wayne's earlier years as Batman, it certainly makes sense why he gets his back broken by Bane in episode 2 and why he is new in knowing those villains. Of course, the predecessor may be better, but this series contains consistent animation and character development with Batman becoming more prepared to face his enemies and Joker becoming more monstrous as seen by the episode Joker Express. The series even uses obscure villains properly, by using them alongside classic villains, not like Beware the Batman where they shoved most of the good villains and replaced them with obscure ones. Batgirl before Robin is not bad is Batgirl is legitimately Batman's sidekick, not like Katana in Beware the Batman, who replaces Robin entirely. The series even had a good direct-to- video film follow-up, The Batman vs Dracula. This movie is to The Batman what Return of the Joker was to Batman Beyond and Mask of the Phantasm was to Batman the Animated Series, having a darker tone than the series. The lack of Two-Face, Scarecrow and Ra's al Ghul was mainly due to Nolan movies, not to make the series child-friendly. And Gordon does appear from the third season and is just as well depicted, despite not being there from the start. Lucius Fox is also portrayed in a way reminiscent of the Nolan films. Enjoy it if you have an open mind.
Son of Batman (2014)
Why all the bashing?
This movie is not as bad as people think. Whoever thinks it is bad are spoiled on overrated live-action bullshit DC creates such as The Dark Knight Rises, Gotham and Arrow. People may complain that the voice acting is bad. If it was fully bad, the characters would be out of character. People complain that Deathstroke is too pompous, but the good part is he is still true to the comics, compared to Slade from Teen Titans, who was nothing more than a censored, although an amazing, version of the character. He is even better than Slade Wilson from Arrow, who shares nothing in common with the original except name and costume. Talia al Ghul is what she is supposed to be. This version at least has a role here, compared to the well-loved Talia from Dark Knight Rises, who was rushed and didn't make sense. Damien Wayne was perfectly true to the comics in being the son of Batman and Talia and raised by the League of Assassins. The Damien from the BTAB episode Knights of Tomorrow was changed in having Catwoman for a mother and being legit, whereas Damien is not even Batman's legit son in the comics. He is illegitimate. The animation looks perfect, not as crappy as the CGI Beware the Batman, which certainly does not deserve a 7.5. Action sequences are great. The idea of League of Assassins using Man- Bats is awesome. The story even makes sense. So people who bash it and prefer all poorly done overrated trash, think again.
X-Men: Evolution (2000)
Muppet babies is not a good example of making shows child-friendly
I can't believe people are in love with this show and are giving it such high scores. The shows is just Marvel's excuse to make shows child-friendly by de-aging the characters to teens. This is unacceptable. When we usually think of X-men, what comes to our mind? Take over the world. Apartheid and Holocaust to mutants by putting them under registration. Futures ruled by the immortal supervillain Apocalypse and robots called Sentinels. Well, in this show, we barely see any. X-men are reduced to teens and are now attending high school. What's the use of them going to Xavier's if they get to go to a public high school. The characters are entirely changed. Wolverine, who is the best X-men character, hardly gets a screen time. Nightcrawler is no longer the Catholic, serious-minded mutant who wants to explore surroundings, but now a teenage prankster. Jean Grey, who is supposed to be an outcast is the popular girl in school. Gambit and Colossus are villains and the villains are terrible. Magneto, who is supposed to be violent, using his magnetic powers to kill is now a manipulator. If that is so, he should not be a ferrokinetic, but a telepath. The Brotherhood are now juvenile delinquents instead of terrorists. Toad, who is supposed to be genius and assisting Magneto is now a weak and brainless prankster. Avalanche is no longer destructive and totally out of character. He behaves more like Rictor. Senator Kelly is no longer the Senator who wants mutants under registration, but now a school principal. The Sentinels are underdeveloped and only get a few episodes. Way to go, X-men Evolution. Because of that people have more similar mutilated shows such as Iron Man Armored Adventures.
Spider-Man (2003)
A show that tries to be good but contains too many clichés
The only good thing about this series is that it is mature and tries to reach the level of Batman TAS. But it is not good as it looks. The series sets off after the first movie and therefore, the plot is hard to get. To add insult to injury, episodes were aired out of order, making the story harder to get. The series itself is full of clichés. Aunt May, who is one of Spiderman's closest allies is absent. J Jonah Jameson does not have a proper role and neither does he show his hate towards Spiderman. The shows other supporting characters are bland. Mary Jane is just there and Harry Osborn is constantly showing his hate towards Spiderman in every episode. Worst is, we have hardly any proper Spiderman villain. Green Goblin, Dr Octopus and major Spidey foes are absent. The only classic villains here are Electro, Kingpin, Lizard, Kraven the Hunter and Silver Sable. None of them are at all likable in this series. Kingpin is race-lifted to an Afro-American an instead of saying that his body is more muscle than fat, he is too much into fast food. A big clichéd stereotype. Electro is an emo and a weak excuse for a tragic villain. The series' villains come closer to using racial stereotypes of Russians. Silver Sable, who came from the fictional country of Symkaria in the comics is now Russian are more sadistic. The original villains that the show had are totally not likable and very sadistic. Pterodax, who appears as a replacement for the Vulture, is a total stereotype of Soviet Russians. Shikata is a total stereotype of ninjas and a rip-off of Talia al Ghul. The Gaines twins are the only thing that connects the series to the rest of the Marvel Universe as the twins are mutants. And yet they have to be clichéd sadistic villains. Way to ruin a good attempt and make it like Beware the Batman.
Gotham (2014)
DC should stop wasting their time on coming of age dramas shows and work on more movies like Marvel
Gotham is a TV show that literally proves that people have hypocritical views on films and television based on comic books. The series has poorly written script and bad casting choices reminiscent of Joel Schumacher's Batman movies. Ben McKenzie could be a perfect Batman in a Batman show as he slightly resembles Bruce Wayne in Batman Year One, not to forget he voiced Batman in the animated film. Him being cast as Jim Gordon is like the casting of Jim Carrey as Riddler in Batman Forever as this Riddler behaved more like the Joker. Casting of Robin Lord Taylor as Penguin is another bad casting choice as his physical appearance matches the Joker more than Penguin, as Penguin is obese and short in the comics, not tall and well-built. He even does not share the Penguin's exact origin story. Penguin started off as a thief trying to restore his family name. He becomes a crime boss and opens a nightclub called the Iceberg Lounge. This one is dogsbody to a totally unlikable character named Fish Mooney and does nothing more than kill and poison people. This Penguin is like Deadpool in X-Men Origins Wolverine because they share nothing in common except the name. The series even mixed up the murder of Batman's parents with that of the Helena Bertinelli Huntress's. In here, the Wayne murders are planned, not random violence like in the comics. Almost every character is older than Batman, making it bad. The show is more like a prequel to the sh*** Beware the Batman, because in that animated series, there are barely any proper villains. I can't believe critics think this show is better than Batman v Superman.
