Redeeming Love (2022)
Accidentally watched it
Watched it without knowing it was 1. Based on a book, and 2. Based on a Christian book (with, what seems like, a cult following).
Imagine my surprise when the movie, that I thought was going to be a simple love story, turns out to be about a man who won't give up on manipulating a prostitute into marrying him (multiple times!!!).
I am an atheist, unlike most other people who watched and reviewed this movie, and I do not think that the sex scenes are explicit in any way nor do I think that the movie in any way should result in a feeling of "oooh that's real love!!!".
It is not love, it is messed up and no sane mind should aspire to have that.
Only positive things I have to say is that the reviews on here have made me laugh out loud several times, and the movie was also beautiful to look at.
Would also like to add; what kind of movies do you fellow reviewers usually watch, for this movie to make you all so mad about the side-boob in this one? Oh to live the life of an American Christian for one day...
Star Wars (1977)
Not my cup of tea
I want to like this movie because it is a big part of movie-history, but, unfortunately I find it extremely boring. I am impressed by it only from a point of view that when it was made, it was revolutionary and fresh. But, as someone born in 99', I am spoiled with movies that have objectively far more interesting plots than this one and also a lot better in many other ways. I can not emphasize enough how much I want to feel the magic that people experienced when this first came out and the nostalgia people keep feeling, but it just doesn't do it for me. It kind of only made me wish it would end, mostly due to the fact that Chewbacca's sounds made me furious. Annoying creature, that one, eh?
I will probably watch all the other movies in this franchise, and maybe my opinion will change along the way, but as for now it's solely my mission to watch them all because I made a promise to my mother that we would watch them together to see what the fuss was/is about (she somehow hasn't seen them yet despite being born in 65'.).
The Flatshare (2022)
Feel-good but lacking
Watched the whole show in one go with my SO, we were sure that if we didn't watch it all immediately we never would've put it on again. With that said, it definitely isn't a bad show, but it's certainly not a masterpiece either as it is rather basic apart from the quite interesting subplot about his brother (thinking the brother is cute might've made us biased..)
We found the main character rather childish and often irrational and boring, and acting entitled many times.
Also the whole subplot about the young Holly-girl as some kind of life-coach was super weird and somehow cliche. That goes for the old-gay-lover-plot as well. Didn't see the need for those storylines, the main characters should've been able to fall in love in other ways (like living together and writing copious amounts of post-its??) and not because they we're parent-trapped by a girl on her deathbed.
Would still recommend if you want to see something extremely light and yet deep.
