Too many reviewers have been to Vipers!
6 January 2022
As is always the case, I'm never quite sure what people expect from a TV series. Yes, there are plot holes and questions asked (like, what's with the La La Land hit squad who dance in the streets) but maybe we all need to just zoom out a bit and enjoy it for what it is - just a Netflix drama series with a few good actors and an attempt at an interesting plot twist.

It's engaging enough so just watch it without your Hollywood critic glasses on.

Are you kidding me!

I cant believe the ratings. Words cant describe how disappointing this series was. It started with some potential but fizzled to be a mish mash of horror stereotypes and overbearing long periods of dialogue that waxed and waned between religious belief and religious I dont know what???? I could go on but there are other things that i have to catch up on!!

Is everyone watching the same show?

Seriously! 1/10.....I get the whole annoying Adam thing. He really is irritating but to condemn the show to a score that borders on the quality of some of the Tik Tok rubbish is just insulting. It's not a 10, but it has so many more redeeming qualities to drag it above a pass score. It keeps you engaged and if you want to sit back and analyse it frame by frame then there are flaws. But, the medium is designed to engage and it does that. It follows Hollywood 101 with building tension and increasingly difficult conflict. Come on guys! How about we spend a little less time trying to write reviews like some hard nosed columnist and enjoy it for what it is.

Breath of fresh air

I really do not get those who have provided poor reviews. It is an interesting twist on a religious tale that sheds, in many was, a not too serious light on the traditions and behaviours of Hasidic Jews. There is humour, sadness, emotion, empathy and joy all wrapped up in a short 4 episode drama. For sure, it is not completely resolved but why should it be. Life goes on for all of us as it rightfully does for Esty. Forget the critics an watch it even if you just want to see cultures collide!

The Mysterious case of Season 3
27 February 2021
This should have been a 7.5 out of 10 series but the 3rd season was just inane and stupid. Weird and disconnected storyline's that jump backwards and forwards without a great deal of logic made me jettison the series after Episode 6. It was grinding to an almost complete stop so I saved myself further pain and moved on. What a sad way to end the show after 2 relatively engrossing previous series. I love my Nordic crime shows but this lacked the punch and conviction of many of its predecessors.

Slow, gripping burn
7 January 2021
I have watched just about everything that comes out of the Nordic and Baltic countries and this offering is certainly up there. It won't appeal to everyone because it cruises along in first gear for all 6 episodes. Not that this is an issue. It is well shot with incredibly understated emotion and subtle tension added to by excellent performances from the actors. It's the realism and the complete lack of Hollywood formula that I loved. Worth a binge!

Dull grey
26 December 2020
Had some potential but instead of riding waves of emotion I found myself floating on gentle ripples. It just didn't rise to any heights and the characters were mono dimensional. Was it an attempt at a commentary on racial issues or family? Neither were dealt with well and it just meandered along to a lifeless ending.

A polarizing series!
11 December 2020
Looks like it rates an 8 overall because you either love it and give it a 10 or hate it and give it a 2! I really don t get the condemnation or the hype. The desire to wander so far from the book may be the reasoning because it looks like the producers wanted shock and and awe when it may have been better as a slow, simmering burn. I agree that Kidman and Grant were 5/10 at best and without Southerland and it would have been a complete flop. I watched and was engaged by it. Sure you can pick it apart scene by scene if you want but that will just add to your discontent. I give the lawyer the best score!

Good start but...
12 November 2020
I have only watched 1 season and im not sure about it being much more than a 7. Interesting concept but the dialogue between the young law students is irritating, childish and unrealistic. The constant sarcastic banter is unnecessary and detracts from the storyline. When they stop attacking each other and just work on the storyline it is more palatable. And if i was one of the 50 students in the Law class i would be cheesed off by only the 5 protagonists being asked to answer every question! Teaching 101 needs to be reviewed i think!

What the?
9 October 2020
I wandered through the first season and when it finished i was mildly excited about the 2nd season. How wrong my instincts were! It just made no sense, with each episode sending my level of confusion further in to the stratosphere. Crazy story lines with even crazier explanations left me thanking the producers that they didnt venture in to a 3rd season. I gave it a 4 because the first season at least made sense! I advise giving it a miss!!

Fantastic viewing

I binged this and just loved it. I'm not sure what planet some of the critics were on but it wasn't here that's for sure. I watch a lot of TV series from all around the world and this one is up there. Contrary to a couple of reviews, it IS well written and develops the conflict as per Screenwriting 101. Honestly, just watch it!
