Play for Today: Still Waters (1972)
The very best 'Play for Today'
'Still Waters' was voted the best 'Play for Today' of its season. It has proved unforgettable. 35 years after seeing it the memory of its gentle humour still makes me smile. The story, like all great theatre is very simple: a middle-aged husband and wife have argued and she leaves him by taking a long walk alone in a peaceful woodland area. While searching for his wife the man encounters a variety of other people, including a very 'at peace with the world and in harmony with nature' young couple. Of course the ending is a happy one and the message clear - we should appreciate those we love while we still have them. Although that may sound too simple, Julia Jones has turned out a masterpiece. Will it ever be available for viewing again? Iwish...
