Dead Kids (2019)
Different take for Filipino films
Honestly, I was really impressed the first time I watched this. I don't really watch Filipino movies anymore because of the cringefest we usually get from film festivals, but hey, I was randomly scrolling on Netflix and saw this, and the trailer was very compelling--I had to watch it.
And oh boy, slow clap for the production of this film-from the music/score, to the shots, color grading was aight-everyone's doing it so it was nothing new but it was right for the aim of the film.
The acting was actually really good, I was impressed, it was nothing like the ones I've seen in Philippine cinema/TV with all the over the top screaming, crying, and such. I hate to say this, but Sue Ramirez has that typical Filipino acting, but I guess they needed someone mainstream to invite audience into watching this film. I loved the scene at the car before they did the act, the silence was so intense, you could feel and see how nervous they were, which was only the natural thing to feel if it was your first time kidnapping someone, moreover, as a 19 y/o! I have nothing against with the conyos in this film, I know enough conyos in my life, so yeah, I thought they were natural.
The second time I watched this, I watched it with my fam, it suddenly became corny and cheesy. My parents didn't understand the movie, so I guess this one is for the youth. But still, props to Mikhail Red for doing a different take on the Philippine films. Hope this keeps going and reach wider audience.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
Amazing but not 'that' amazing
I don't know if you'll read the whole review, but before anything else--PLEASE DON'T GO INSIDE THE THEATRE WITH HIGH EXPECTATIONS-- this is honestly important if you want a good experience. I was hyped since the first trailer of this film. But after rewatching "Man of Steel", I took my expectations down. Because I don't want to spoil the anticipation. And no regrets, I enjoyed the movie somehow. Let's admit it--as a hardcore Bat-fan-- I had to raise my expectations. And wow, I wasn't at all disappointed at Ben Affleck's performance. However, uuuuhhh, I would say I was not so amazed. Maybe because "The Dark Knight Trilogy" set the bars too high. It was too high, it's very hard to beat! And I'm not suprrised that "The Dark Knight Trilogy" is still the BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE ever!
As a bat-fan, I will emphasized this review about Ben Affleck's Batman. And guess what, I'm not bitter (because I'm a bale head) to say that Bat-fleck is the best BATMAN yet. Why? Why? Why? Hmmm... HE HAS A LOT OF ACTION SCENES compared to the previous batmen! Which I very love and it was amazing! The way he fought in combat is BATMAN- BATMAN. But as the best Bruce Wayne? It's a very debatable case if he were to compare with Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne. But if you ask me, Bale's Bruce Wayne is still the best because he's very casual and... 'Bruce Wayne'. Back to Batman, there are some parts that I prefer Bale's Batman over Affleck's, I just can't point it out just yet. However, overall, as Batman, I root for Affleck's batman as the best. But as for my favorite, c'mon I'm biased, Bale is still my favorite batman. "Best" and "favorite" are two different things, people. And can I say that Jeremy Irons is the coolest Alfred?! C'mon, when did you see Alfred navigating and actually helping/inventing bat-gadgets?! Awesomee! *jazz fingers*
OK, let's go down to Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. C'mon standing ovation for him! I love his character! I love how he portray his character! Ever since I saw the trailer with him in it, I was like, "Ohhh, he's gonna nail it!" And no disappointment, I guess!! And for Henry Cavill's supes, I was not exactly expecting so much from him because I was so focused on Batman (Because Batman is awesome). But I would say it's a better performance than MoS!
Damn, i was kinda disappointed at Wonder Woman's role here in this story. I mean, the way the trailers emphasized her--Of course, I was expecting big! But meh, I need more Wonder Woman! But let's admit it, Gal Gadot is gorgeous!
*SPOILER!!!!*
Okkkk The story! The combat between bats and supes! AMAZING!!! I was so hyped at how bats is beating the hell out of supes! Grin all over my face, man! And can I just say that I find the bat-suit for superman kinda weird--I mean I like it, but I don't like it either. He looks fat and small ahaha. But sure am glad that he change after that. But the batsuit still looked cool
I keep telling people here that Batsy won. And c'mon, he might not have completely beaten supes BUT if he hadn't mentioned Martha-- Clark's 2nd mom (or Bruce Wayne's mom's name), then he won, OK? He won! and supes is dead. what'cha gonna do about it? But hey, there Justice League next year so, JL is not complete without supes. Wooh! I screamed when I saw Flash and Aquaman. You know what this means--Justice League.
and damn, I was expecting the Joker to show up. Because I think I heard rumors he's going to show up at the end of the film. But nah
*END OF SPOILER*
I rate this movie 7 out of 10 stars because I was not that amazed as I was when I watched "The Dark Knight Trilogy". Is it unfair to compare BvS to TDKT? Because BvS didn't make an impact on me than TDKT did.
I love the opening scene! Zack Snyder did a splendid job! Nth times better than MoS! The CGI is also cool. And of course, the score is amazing. Hans Zimmer never fails.
