Our Girl (2013)
What is going on with the series?????
I've been watching Our Girl when it first aired with Lacey Turner as Molly Dawes, and it was a great piece of British Drama until watching last nights episode (Belize) where Captain James declares his 'feelings' for Michelle Keegan's character Georgie. Since the introduction of Michelle Keegan's character I can easily see a decrease in the ratings. Its obvious that the source of why the ratings are dropping is because the the writer is primarily focused on forcing or creating love-matches. The story is OUR GIRL not LOVE ISLAND, focus on the premise of the WAR ASPECTS and the consequences of war and how we can better people if we showed compassion and a chance for reformation. That was literally the foundation of the show. BBC GET YOURSELF A NEW WRITER!
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Phenomenal - A Genuine Piece of History
Hacksaw Ridge is by far the most visceral, raw and emotional piece of historical/drama film in portraying World War 1 & 2. It is one that is rare, unusual and makes you question the capacity of human compassion and consciousness.
By far the most talented and finest piece of acting (up-to-date) by Andrew Garfield, who plays Desmond Doss - a Conscientious Objector or 'Conscientious Co-operator'. Drawing to the middle and ending of the film Doss is seen to gain respect and honour for his selflessness and compassion, in comparison to his mistreatment and of him being ridiculed and beaten by his fellow soldiers during his training. The iconic line (and sequence) of 'Lord please, help me get one more'gives insight into the humanistic qualities of one man willing to fight and save others when hope seems lost.
The constant ambush of graphically violent scenes, illustrate the essence of the 'hell-on-Earth' environment during World War 1 & 2, whilst incorporating a balance of suspense and slight fear during a scene in which Desmond finds himself entering the tunnels in which the Japanese have occupied.
OVER DEFINITELY, A MUST WATCH.
Southpaw (2015)
An emotional and heartfelt movie about emotional and physical pain but also finding redemption and perseverance along the way.
This movie is undoubtedly vigorous and impactive. Powerful performances by Jake Gyllenhaal as Billy Hope, Oona Laurence as Leila Hope and Rachel Mcadams as Maureen Hope. These combined actors are able to convey a fantastically emotional story about Billy Hope fighting the urge to not allow his anger control him as it previously got the best of him. This led to the death of his long-term friend and wife Maureen Hope. The result of Maureen's death leads to Billy spirally out of control to the point where he tries to commit suicide by crashing his car with extreme speed into a tree nearby the family home. The repercussions of his impulsiveness leads to him losing temporal custody of his daughter, Leila. Billy makes a remarkable and positive change by getting a job at a boxing gym. Billy gradually shows good signs of being able to take care of his daughter again as he controls his anger and is supporting himself. However, Leila holds too much anger towards her father as she blames him for her mother's death. This scene is among one of the best throughout the movie as Leila hits her father and cries that he should of died instead of her mother. Billy understands his daughter needs to heal and continues to fight for her, literally by training to fight his opponent Miguel 'Magic' Escobar played by Miguel Gomez, that caused the escalation and death of Maureen. Redemption, familial love and perseverance is found at the end of the story as Leila and Billy try to heal themselves and focus on caring about one another and not letting boxing consume their lives again.
Overall this movie takes us on a journey to care, hate and sympathise with the characters. Billy shows great strength emotionally and physically by conquering his anger issues and focuses on doing good with his skills of boxing. This movie has proved to be an emotional roller coaster as the audience are able to relate to the emotions of what each character is feeling especially due to the circumstances they are put through.
A beautiful piece.
