The Grinch (2018)
I wanted to like it.
I grew up with Boris Karloff as well as Jim Carrey. While I love Jim Carrey, it always seemed too fixated on jokes and jabs rather than the story. So with the new adaptation, I wondered if they'd remedy that. They did not.
Where Boris and Jim brought life, character, and instant nostalgia, this movie only brought your run of the mill modern animation style and a few forgettable jokes.
An unrelated critique was the sheer amount of new material - why? Why make Suzie-loo's mother single? Why write in a reindeer just so you can miss an iconic line from the original and the 2000's movie? ("If I can't find a reindeer, I'll make one instead.") As far as I can see, they were trying so hard to be different that they lost track of the actual story.
I hope one day studios can finally take the hint that we, as movie watchers, are done with remakes. It's tired, vapid, and makes a mockery of good stories. Please, for the sake of future generations, make new material. At this point, my children will be brought up on movies/shows made prior to the 2010's, as much of what's been made since then (with exceptions) has been uninspired.
A Whole World for a Little World (2017)
Masterpiece
In all honesty, this is the most emotionally impactful video I have ever seen. The opening scene from Up is great, but this is 10x better. Even if you don't understand French, this is definitely worth the watch. You can spare 15 minutes of your life to watch a master piece of emotion. Well worth you time. Perfection.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
Love Faloni
I loved this episode, if not just for Ahsoka. Rosario Dawson did not disappoint, but I don't think she impressed either. Overall still really good and well directed episodes
Les diaboliques (1955)
Masterpiece
This thriller is a masterpiece, a mystery with a nearly impossible to predict ending. This film is full of suspense, chilling, yet does not use any cheap tricks or jump scares to make the audience fearful. It is written with hidden foreshadowing, making just as enjoyable, if not more, to re-watch time and again. The climax is deafeningly quiet, which adds to the suspense, making every little sound more powerful and meaningful.
