Resident Evil (2002)
8/10
The beginning of an entertaining saga.
21 February 2023
I've always loved this movie on at least some level. Sure, the CGI effects haven't aged all together that well, but it's important to remember that this movie came out about twenty-one years ago. Lots of fun and engaging zombie/monster action and cool camera shots/angles. And I love Milla Jovovich as Alice, as well as Michelle Rodriguez as Rain. This movie paved the way for a franchise I've always liked, as well as a number of similarly entertaining video game adaptation movies. It also features the Red Queen, who is one of my personal favorite villains/anti-villains in the action/horror genre. I think, if anything, you'll have a lot of fun watching this movie, as well as the sequels.

The Conjuring (2013)

Impressive suspense and imagery!

I liked this movie quite a bit. Mainly because I very much enjoy horror movies. It's not scary, at least not in a lasting way, but it is suspenseful and has a lot of great imagery.

A Hidden Gem
5 August 2021
I watched this movie quite some time ago and enjoyed it. But lately, it's appeal has grown on me more. There's lots of action/gore and cool vampires. This is pure personal opinion, but I really like this movie. If you give it a chance, I think you'll find it fun and entertaining.

Great action/gore scenes, but the plot is a bit sluggish.
1 August 2021
This movie has a lot of great death scenes and gore effects, but the plot tends to take a while to get going, more like a psychological thriller than a horror/slasher movie. I do like the cast. Particularly Vinnie Jones as the villain. The editing and cinematography is on point as well. Over all, I'd say it's a good movie, and that I'd probably enjoy it at least a little if I watched it again. Hope that helps.

Maneater (2020 Video Game)

Devour all humans!
8 June 2020
Maneater, for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, is an insanely fun and addictive shark-RPG game; especially for avid shark enthusiasts like myself. Though that's not to say it's pitch perfect. The combat is flawed and disorienting, and you may encounter the occasional glitch. That being said, there are a lot of wide, beautifully-rendered areas to explore, a lot of different animals and people to eat, and a lot of ways you can evolve/upgrade your shark to become a more efficient predator. So if you like open-world RPG chaos games like GTA, but wish you could be an oceanic killing machine, I'd say it's worth the thirty bucks.

The Grudge (2019)
Engaging and consistently entertaining
10 January 2020
I rather enjoyed this movie both times I watched it. There was a lot of entertainment value, as well as blood and gore. Also, the ghosts were cool-looking/creepy. I find the Ju-On/Grudge series to be an interesting one, and I hope they make at least one more.

Hush (I) (2016)
9/10
Tense, unpredictable, and satisfying
7 July 2016
'Hush' provides the viewer with a consistent stream of tension and suspense, as well as a surprising number of ideas and plot twists given the movie's relatively simple premise. What you'll also get out of this movie is a likable and resourceful protagonist and a sadistic and calculating villain. I will say that there are moments where the plot drags a bit, and that the ending requires a little suspension of disbelief, but it's still a satisfying movie that will have you holding your breath, and wondering what will happen next. I will defiantly check out Mr. Flanagan's other works in the future. My verdict is four out of five.

Good, but I expected a bit more
30 June 2016
Before I watched this movie, I was expecting something that would scare me more than just about anything I'd ever seen. Now that I've seen it, I'll say it was intense and interesting, and I particularly liked the way the ending was executed, but also that I've seen titles that are a lot scarier. I did admire the film's craftsmanship, pacing and the unique way it develops and executes its scares and sense of dread. One scene in particular was the film's high-point. Overall, the movie was good and interesting, especially for its time. I was just expecting it to be scarier. If you're looking for a good old-school scary movie, then this is probably up your alley.
