The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Ice Cream (2019)
A sweet treat
The 2nd Jeff Goldblum episode made me realize there were certain patterns going forward that would likely carry through all the show, i.e. generally 3 important places Jeff visits, some super rare or expensive variant of whatever he's looking at, him getting some unique variant of the topic designed around his personality, how the topic connects to his childhood, etc.
This particular ep made me hungry as heck because I love ice cream and its entertaining enough, though eventually these beats around food being important because some aspect of it brings people together will start to all blend eventually.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Cosmetics (2020)
Needed a bit of touching up
This episode wasn't very insightful beyond what was the exceedingly obvious message (makeup can help people express themselves). Good to see that Disney isn't shy about highlighting stuff like drag shows without any judgement or need to cater to old-fashioned mindsets about who should be wearing makeup. Still, more interesting avenues could have been explored more like Jeff's history with makeup for his movie roles, how cosmetics are made and what they're made from, etc. Best part of the episode is the lady at the end and the art she puts on Jeff's face but you can tell like the gaming episode due to its length the creators didnt end up caring that much about this topic.
Side note- it's a good thing Jeff Goldblums mom never became a politician because the picture of her here would have surely ended her career
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Bikes (2019)
Pedal to the Medal
Another infotaining episode. Would've liked to see Jeff meet a collector of some of the weird and wonderful bike variants seen in the montage. The wind tunnel was wonderful. Henry Ford has such a deep voice it sounds like one of those people on TV news they have in a dark room to keep anonymous and I love him
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Sneakers (2019)
Off on the right foot
This starter episode gives a pretty good indication of the sorts of places Jeff will be and the people he meets, delving into the subjects' origins, collectors, how it's made, and etc. novelties. Jeff's inquisitive, bizarre yet heartfelt narration and interaction gives the series an edge over just youtube videos on the subjects- I don'y =t give a quarter of a hoot about athletic shoes but my attention was kept the whole time. I will say this particular ep seems to revolve around the rich and powerful in the sneaker world which can remind us jeff is in fact not just any goof but a Hollywood millionaire, getting his own custom zebra pattern-lined sneakers while we toil with our old normal pairs until we rise up and seize the means of sneaker production
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: RVs (2019)
Fairly standard episode
A pretty well made look into the world of RV's even for those not interested in the subject prior, got a bit boring towards the end with the family though. The RV hall of fame was nice and I cringed whenever Jeff asked an Amish person if he saw a movie or heard a song or something. Little educational content here that is usually associated with the Nat Geo label, but the demo derby was still cool. Jeff still looks like a GTA Online character.
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Tattoos (2019)
Not just a tramp stamp
Pretty good episode relating to totally sort of weird and interesting things people do with Tattoos and Jeff digging deeper and deeper into their meaning. Would have been perfect tho had Jeff agreed to get a tattoo on camera himself- preferably one of his own face, on his forehead
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Denim (2019)
Cool jeans
Was a pretty educational episode that made the subject of such common and ordinary style of clothing suddenly more interesting (Abandoned mine! Laser beams! "Indiana Jeans"!) Will admit by the ending at the bar they kind of seemed to run out of interesting places to go thay were heavily related to denim so they were kinda stretching it
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: BBQ (2019)
Made me hungry
This episode was great and it almost felt like Jeff traveled all over the world with the high variety of BBQ dishes and traditions he tries out. The idea of the environmental cost of us consuming so much BBQ was unexpected and gave the episode a greater poignancy than probably all the others released so far, and Jeff's "arc" in this ep is fairly entertaining if a little staged. Watched this one while eating a Korean BBQ beef rap from uber eats for a very pleasurable brief respite from cramming for finals
The World According to Jeff Goldblum: Gaming (2019)
Disappointing episode
Had a lot of potential thanks to Jeff having basically never played a video game really before. Sadly the majority of this episode barely explores this concept- Jeff goes to a pretty basic esports tournament with little interesting commentary, the sound effects he creates for the app are cool but a look into more of the coding/art design of a game would be more on point and interesting, and the LARPing part was pretty hilarious but is only marginally connected to the topic of the episode. The ending in with Goldblum experiencing VR though is magical and it would have been neat for it to be longer. Talking as a gamer myself perhaps the topic is a bit too broad to be wholly encompassed within this shows half hour format anyway.
