The Boys: Payback (2022)
The Seth Rogan Effect
I'll admit I have no clue what degree Seth Rogan is involved in the show as executive producer, but I can't help but feel the show seems more and more like something he'd produce. The shock value is getting over the top, and "messaging" is becoming too on-the-nose.
This first episode is was decent, but the quality of writing and overall direction seem to be moving backwards and it was a disappointing season open.
North Korea: Inside the Mind of a Dictator (2021)
Nothing special
Listening to journalists and John Bolton talk about Kim is wildly underwhelming. The whole second half is just a bizarre puff piece about Trump and Kim complete with romance jazz. If you want a look into North Korean culture, look elsewhere.
Fyre Fraud (2019)
Amateurish
The festival itself is worth a documentary, but I couldn't help but feel like the entire production was vindictive and grasping at cultural straws. Billy is obviously a fraudster and is rightfully critizised. However, I still found a way to dislike the victims/interviewers at the same time. It seemed they tried way too hard to wrap the event up with every pop culture reference and trend they could. In the end, it just felt shallow.
