Unlike anything I've seen before.
4 September 2020
3 episodes in and I'm hooked. The story seems very intriguing, elements of mystery interwoven with science fiction in front of a stunning backdrop. The characters are well acted and the plot moves along at a good pace. Each episode leaves you wanting more.

Dracula (2020)

It was so good til episode 3
7 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It is still worth watching for the first two episodes, but be prepared for a disappointing finish. The issue with the last episode isn't that Count Dracula becomes a modern vampire in today's time with technology. The issue is that his nature, his entire personality (which had previously been unchanged for 500 years) suddenly changes. No longer a terrifying vampire who lives to torment his prey, now he is a kind & compassionate vampire all because he meets an insufferably vain 22 year old with a morbid fascination and the ancestral reincarnation of sister Agatha Van Helsing, who is able to psychoanalyse him. It's just so bland & cliche in comparison to the first two episodes.

Decent remake but lacking real Disney magic
12 November 2019
For the most part I have enjoyed the live action remakes, despite never being quite as good as their original counterparts. Lady and the Tramp is no exception. It is for the most part, an enjoyable movie, beautifully shot, with a wonderful cast and adorable dogs. Although the CGI for the animals talking was a bit subpar. The real issue I had with the movie is that it just didn't seem to have any heart. It felt like it was just checking off a list based on what took place in the original and that was it. Albeit you might feel a bit disappointed in the overall execution, I still recommend giving this movie a chance.

Happy Feet (2006)

Big heart, happy feet
9 October 2019
Much like Mumble this movie is full of joy and optimism. Be true to yourself, follow your heart, never give up and perhaps the most important message of the movie; love, of one another, of oneself, and of Mother Earth. A great message for kids to learn and for adults to be reminded of. It has remained one of my favorites animated movies since it was in theaters, and even well over a decade later, the main themes of this movie are still just as relevant as they are today. This movie is wonderfully cast, beautifully animated (despite the limitations of 3D at the time), and overall has a beautiful touching story. And very much deserves a higher score than 6.5!

Interesting yet flawed
6 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love time travel movies and I think it was a good concept to travel back in time to fix the past. And it would have been great if the time traveler went back in time to kill people involved in terrible acts that caused massive casualties. But that is not the case, she goes back to stop everyone who supported a movement that created terrorist attacks much later on. It seems illogical that in this story, humans can achieve something as great as time travel but must resort to murdering people in the past over their radical beliefs. The people being killed, weren't actually involved in the terrorists attack, or any violence as far as we can tell. As a viewer it's hard to side with her motivation because they didn't deserve to die just for supporting the movement. Yet despite the problems, it was still enjoyable and I would recommend giving it a chance.

Joker (I) (2019)
10/10
A chilling masterpiece
6 October 2019
Joaquin Phoenix is utterly phenomenal portraying the birth of Gotham's greatest villain, the Joker. This is a story of man slowly losing faith in humanity to the point of madness. We get to know the Joker first as Arthur Fleck; a sad loner who isn't well liked because he makes people uncomfortable. He doesn't have friends, or a special someone in his life, only his mother who he still lives with and cares for. Arthur does the best that he can, working hard as a party clown but he is down on his luck and the world he lives in is brutal. On top of that his dream of becoming a comedian is shattered when talk show host Murray Franklin shows a clip of Arthur bombing at a comedy club. Meanwhile tension in Gotham has been mounting as the poor have been suffering and they turn their anger towards the rich, who seem completely indifferent to the struggles of those living in poverty. It's the perfect recipe for disaster and chaos. This haunting tale is definitely a must-see!

Fun-filled blood fest
15 September 2019
Great tongue in cheek movie for those who enjoy dark humor, gratuitous violence and the horror genre. The story is a simple concept as seen in the trailer; it doesn't set out to scare you, just gross you out a little and show you a good time. And it delivers; lots of laughs, lots of blood & guts & lots of fun to watch.

Morons trapped in a house
11 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Early one Christmas morning, the only two logical people attempt to bail on their moronic family and discover they are trapped in the house. They have no internet, no phones, nothing but a sketchy TV communication telling them what to do. It just get worse and dumber from there. It's clear these characters are written to be painfully stupid only to further the plot. That kind of weak writing ruins what might be an interesting concept.

Not watchable
3 September 2019
I think a lot of these reviews are from family & friends of the people involved in this film. It's nice to show support but as for me, I thought this was terrible in every way: acting, cinematography, story, effects. There was nothing I liked about it and for that reason I do not recommend. But since they clearly put forth a decent amount of effort with a very low budget, and I kind of feel bad, I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 1.

Poorly written, unbelievable characters
17 August 2019
The extra drama added by insufferable characters making unbelievable asinine decisions, ruins what could be a mediocre movie. Instead of mediocre it's just plain terrible. Unfortunately the amateurs involved in this train wreck of a film did not once attempt to establish some kind of character development, which may have helped slightly. Instead they're just crying and screaming lines of dialogue strung together that seem only to pass the time. Don't waste your time on this garbage, no matter how much you love the horror genre, no matter how high your tolerance for amateur movies... you will not enjoy this. It's simply not possible.

Fun but not great.
15 August 2019
It's no where near as good. But it's not a bad movie either. Full of whimsy and magic, and overall carries a good message. Minor changes have been made but over all it doesn't deviate too far from the original. It just doesn't leave a lasting impression, some movies work well as live action remakes, some movies don't and this is one of those movies that will always be better as a cartoon.

A 60s nostalgic slow burn with all the Tarantino magic fans know and love.
26 July 2019
Amazing recreation of classic Tinseltown (and surrounding areas) a glorious but turbulent city, with fame and fortune, heartbreak and misery. It's classic Hollywood with a dark side. Don't expect a 100% factual representation of the story, Tarantino took creative license and as a Tarantino fan (and Angeleno) I can't recommend this movie enough, you will not be disappointed.

For those who can't stomach violence, disapprove of jokes regarding racial & gender stereotypes, I would not recommend this movie.

True Blood (2008–2014)

Bloody good fun!
17 June 2013
True Blood isn't exactly thought provoking, inspiring or meaningful in any way... but it's a blast to watch!

The story revolves around a goody-two-shoes blond named Sookie Stackhouse, who tries to be a "regular southern girl" but through all her unfortunately poor decisions, she seems to continuously get herself involved with vampire drama. Set a small town called Bon Temps in the back woods of Lousianna which is somehow brimming with supernatural activity, including (but not limited to) vampires, shape- shifters, were-wolves, were-panthers, faeries, spirits, witches and a maenad, this is backdrop for most of her odd adventures. She can be quite insufferable at times - luckily there are plenty of other wonderful characters with gripping side plots.

I would recommend everyone giving this series a try even if vampires is not exactly your cup-of-tea. But keep in mind, it's definitely not something for those faint of heart, this has tons of violence, gore, nudity and of course lots and lots of blood. But as I always say, the more the better - specially in True Blood, I mean let's face it, that's what we all watch it for!

Bates Motel (2013–2017)
8/10
Hitchcock-Purist but I love this!
15 June 2013
OK die-hard Hitchcock fans who hate to see his masterpieces mangled and destroyed by remakes and re-imaginings - Do not worry, you need not shy away from Bates Motel.

I was hesitant at first, assuming I'd find myself writhing in anger over some abomination to Hitckcock's name however, I'm pleased to say my expectations were 100% wrong. The amount of thought and care put into the story, acting, directing and cinematography makes this series deserving of taking on the thrilling, gripping, twisted story of Norman Bates.

This is the world of Norman and his mother Norma - only instead of it being in the late 40's, which is when the original Norman of the 1960's movie "Psycho" would have been a teenager, instead this is set in the present day time, creating new and different problems of today's world merged with the aspects of the original tale.

Do not think of it as being the prequel to "Psycho". This is not the tale of the young Norman Bates from the Hitchcock movie... think of it as an alternate reality, set in a different time period telling a slightly different tale which all leads up to how Norman becomes a violently disturbed young man suffering from dissociative identity disorder.

While for the most part the story follows closely with what we know of the mother-enmeshed man, there are several subtle differences (that I won't list to avoid spoilers). However in terms of mannerisms as well as looks, Norman - played by the talented Freddie Highmore - is absolutely spot on.

I highly urge anyone to check it out, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. The hardest part about this series - is waiting for the next episode!

Simply dull.
26 January 2009
I love horror films and cult horror, and I spend a great amount of time watching these types of movies. I was skeptical to watch this due to the high number of bad reviews it received here. Curiosity killed the cat. I started watching the movie with an open-mind. I don't have a problem with camera shake, I'm not squeamish about gore and rape. Of course I must agree this movie is sick on pretty much every level. But all together content, quality, directing... none of that bothered me.

What I disliked about this film is that the plot is so weak. In fact there is barely a plot at all and thus as disturbing as it is, it's boring. Believe it or not. I understand the basic idea of the film, sick and twisted people on a killing spree, but a lot of the scenes seemed thrown together in no particular order. In a way it was confusing, but not in a strange artistic David Lynch type of confusing way. The composition of the film, just simply fails to be compelling in any way.

If you are simply looking to be disgusted or disturbed then I can recommend this film. However if you are looking for at least something of a functional film, don't waste your time on this one.

I'm amazed I managed to stay awake...
11 May 2006
Unbelievably slow, and uninteresting. A really lengthy, drawn out, overly dramatized story about a meek housewife who becomes allergic to her environment. She then goes to a retreat to seek alternative help after her friends, family and doctors cant find anything wrong with her. In the end she eventually find "comfort" and learns to "love herself". However she doesn't get better from this illness and even after going to the retreat she still can't distinguish whether its psychological or actually physical even though everyone there pretty much admits to it being psychological. I cant believe I wasted a couple hours of my life watching a movie about a hypochondriac. I'm honestly insulted anyone would dare make a movie so bad and play it off as "a movie of the soul". No... its really boring useless movie of crap.
