Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
It left my 12 year old daughter in tears.. and not ones of joy
Ok.. so I am 54 , a bit of a nerd and love comics and the MCU in general , however its been a bit of a disappointment of late. So I go to watch this with my wife and daughter (who loves Wanda) and whilst I have done my best to avoid trailers you get some idea of what surprises could crop up.. but was not expecting to be blown away.
So it opens up (after a fast and furious fight scene) with a scene at the wedding of Doc's old girl friend but made me more sorry for an ex-colleague of Strange's having lost his two cats and having the question of are you Happy ? Floated out there to the good Doctor.. cut to another fight scene in New York .. add in another extra dimensional monster .. add in Wong and a teenager and eventually another Doctor Strange.. rather dead and with a pony tail.. teenager turns out can travel the multiverse but lacks control and the poor dead Doctor Strange is the one Earth 616 Doc dreamed of (dreams being views of our other selves in other dimensions).. Wong and Doc notice the runes on the beasty and conclude that its not sorcery but witch craft.. cut to scene with Wanda in the orchard .. and this is where I think it all starts to go wrong... yes I knew from WandaVision of the loss of the conjured children and the use of the Darkhold would give Wanda some drive to seek out her "children" but I think having her go super out of control evil and have her wreck havoc on a long list of characters from multiple dimensions in her goal to take the power from afore mentioned teenager (killing her in process) but having wiped out so many already did that then matter? Whilst she does go on to regret her actions and take measures to prevent the same happening to another version of herself having her be killed at her own hand was what made my daughter cry..
There was in the wings such a good story of a teaming up Doc and Wanda as they seek solutions against a pretty much free to pick villain as you have the multiverse to pick from .. a really dark version of Wanda or Strange would be easy first picks .. Wanda being tempted by the dark side and having her angels and demons fight it out .. Strange tempted by prospect of getting his girl etc.. having Earth 616 Wanda being evil and needing to be dealt with did away with one of another popular character when it could have been done so much better ..
Its not the train wreck of Eternals (still trying to delete that part of my memory core) but its not great as it could have been.. MCU has been struggling since End Game and this is another lost opportunity I am afraid.
The Green Knight (2021)
Two hours of my life wasted
Well this is the third iteration of the Green Knight I have had the pleasure to watch. I'm sorry to say that this version was so slow and meandering , in all honesty words fail me how anyone can give this film a great review. Perhaps I fail to appreciate some wonderful aspects of the art , but just found it utterly boring and slow.
