I Wish (2016)
Melancholy
Well done short with elements of regret and melancholy. This flashback allows us to relive some moments of the the main characters life that came to an abrupt end.
Although he remains anonymous, we are allowed an intimate look inside his life's most important moments. This short reminds us not to take life for granted and to live life the way we want to, rather than allow others to decide for us. It is an unsettling reminder of how soon things can change and that the only certainty we have, is death. Very well done.
The Dark and the Wicked (2020)
Creepy atmosphere but no story
The atmosphere is dark and creepy. But what's the story? What is haunting this family? Although the way it is filmed and the dark atmosphere set the perfect scene for a scary and intense movie, there seems to be no storyline whatsoever. Dad is dying, mom kills herself, everybody is either hallucinating or being haunted but by what? And why? What is the point? I feel like a good opportunity was missed here. I am giving it five stars for the creepy atmosphere.
Alpha (2018)
Story about the amazing vind between human and animal
I love this movie. The desolate landscape in all it's rawness creates a perfect setting for this intense story. A boy who is joining the man of his tribe for his first hunt in a coming of age rite has to find his way home and develops a deep friendship with an injured wolf. What an intense story about the unconditional love that can grow between humans and animals. Some may call this movie sentimental but as a huge animal lover and dog human, I can totally relate to this. I cried. This story moved me and I was relieved there was a happy ending. Seriously good movie!
Crimson Peak (2015)
Perfect Gothic Romance ..!!
Guillermo Del Toro created a masterpiece(again)! The atmosphere in this gothic movie is magnificent. Ellerdale Hall is by far the best movie mansion I have ever seen. The details are spectacular. I would move in tomorrow! I am mesmerized by the way Del Toro creates his ghosts. The storyline captures me and I felt as if followed Edith on her explorations through this mansion of mysteries, trying to unravel the truth. The theme music is beautiful and melancholic. The ending both tragic and romantic. I have watched this movie a few times now, only to find more details in every scene.
Cloverfield (2008)
Draws you in!
What an awesome movie! Although it has a slow start, once the action begins, it completely draws you in! The visual effects in combination with the shaky handheld cam, makes you feel as if you are running through Manhattan with them. The scenes in the apartment buildings where Beth is trapped, are very eerie and surreal. Well done!
The monster is already creation, original and frightening. There are no explanations as to why, how and what, which makes it even more realistic. The abandoned carriage with the horse running around in the midst of chaos and destruction is unsettling. The traumatic experiences of this group of friends become yours while watching. You are running with them as the viewer, drawn into this frenzy madness and fear. No room for happy endings, no heroes defeating the bad guys. The monster wins. What a great production!
Behind Her Eyes (2021)
GREAT plot twist!
A must watch! Great acting, great build up and great plot twist!
Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace (2020)
Slow at first but with an emotional twist
A bit of a slow start and the acting is a bit mechanical at first, but little Lucy is adorable and the end of the movie was very moving. A beautiful reminder that although God does not necessarily saves us from pain, He can use all things to do good. A Christian Christmas feel good movie with a sad yet heartwarming end.
The Shack (2017)
Best Faith movie ever
This is by far the best faith movie I have seen. What a beautiful way to portrait the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. The actors who play the trinity are doing an awesome job. The movie addresses some very difficult real life issues in a great way, without avoiding anything or resorting to apologetics.
I love the character of Wisdom. Very well done!
I read on this page that one of the movie's goofs is Jesus praying in Hebrew instead of saying a Christian prayer. Whoever wrote this missed an important clue in this movie as well as in the Bible: Jesus was Jewish. He lived in Israel and lived according to Jewish Law. He even mentions in the movie that he is not exactly Christian. How could a Jewish man not say a Hebrew prayer at a funeral? It is not a goof!
Excellent movie, Well done, well done!!
Get Out (2017)
Intense and disturbing
Excellent movie that drew me in from the beginning. Acting is really good. Daniel Kaluuya does an awesome job in portraying Chris. The racism that lingers beneath the surface is seriously disturbing. I often lose focus after watching a movie for a while, but Get Out certainly kept me interested. I just had to find out what was going on!
Isn't It Romantic (2019)
Adorable movie with great cast
I fully enjoyed this romantic, adorable, feel good movie! The atory is funny, romantic and a bit cheezy but in a good way! The characters are all funny and very sympathetic. Definitely a fun movie to watch!
Await Further Instructions (2018)
Nice characters but dissapointing ending.
The movie starts quite well. The characters are well played, the setting in the house gives the movie a bit of an ominous claustrophobic touch.
The end is an anti-climax though. Corny and dissapointing. Too bad because I quite enjoyed the build up. It's one of those movies where you wnat to see the end and the end lets you down. The last 15 minutes you'll have to take for granted if you wnat to watch. Ip until then it is an interesting and well acted story.
The Trail (2013)
I was pleasantly surprised!
Excellent movie! The talented actress carries 90% of the story. The movie catches the atmosphere of coldness and loneliness brilliantly as this story of grief, fear and renewed hope and faith unfold. The Christian theme is not poured on too thick. I read some reviews here before watching and didn't have very high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised! The director did a great job. I hope to see more from him!
Valhalla Rising (2009)
Captivating movie
The images and atmosphere are remarkable in this raw movie that is very different than one would first expect.
I realized after a while that the character One Eye could be symbolic for Odin. The Pagan vs Christian thinking is interesting. All that is being said about how the Christian God frees you from suffering, seems futile in a world of immense pain and suffering.
One Eye however, seems to be free from this. He simply IS. Ever wandering, as in search of something. I can't help but think of Odin again.
What an absolutely fascinating movie!
