Leave the World Behind (2023)
Unlikeable characters
This movie falls at the first hurdle, like many modern movies, with the most unlikeable set of characters and clunky dialogue. The lead actress comes across as a conplete b**ch, as does the young black girl who's all attitude and no personality. 30 mins was enough time to realise that this movie was trash. I also learnt that the Obama's part funded it's production, which raises suspicion that they are preparing us for an upcoming planned Cyber attack by the deep state on the American people, likely in the run up to the Presidential election. The WEF also insisted that the next disaster will be a "cyber pandemic". Pay attention.
Andor (2022)
Finally a quality Disney Star Wars production!
By far the best Disney Star Wars production since Rogue One. Unlike the awful Obi Wan Kenobi & Book of Boba Fett and the decent but superficial Mandalorian, this show feels like Star Wars. The tone, writing, casting (with one or two exceptions) and acting is excellent. Ignore the negative reviews by children, teens or those with low IQ's, as this is Star Wars for adults. My only two minor issues with the show so far is the casting of Vel & Cinta. Poor actresses that are not convincing as rebels. For some reason modern Hollywood really struggles when casting strong female characters, choosing women that don't physically look the part. Aside from these two characters, the casting has been superb. Up until now, I have not been a fan of Disney Star Wars but if they can continue the high quality demonstrated so far with Andor, there is hope.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
"Let the past die...kill it if you have to"
"Let the past die...kill it if you have to" is clearly the mantra Disney live by. Since taking on the Star Wars franchise they have managed to demean & destroy many of the original characters, all in a pathetic attempt to make their new, uninteresting characters appear better than they actually are. Rather than adding to the original trilogy they have systematically destroyed them, making them redundant.
The whole idea of the OT & prequels was that Anakin was the "chosen one". He was the one who would eventually destroy the Emperor & restore balance to the Galaxy. Rise of Skywalker undid everything George Lucas created and spat in his face in the process by lazily bringing the Emperor back. Everything that Anakin, Luke, Han & Leia sacrificed was undone in one swoop just to elevate Rey.
Now, after destroying the characters of Luke, Han & Boba Fett, it's Obi Wan Kenobi's turn. He's been reduced to a supporting character in his own show, playing an incompetent sidekick to an irritating young Leia and the poorly written Reva. I was actually hopefully after the first episode which was pretty well done, focussing on the excellent Ewan McGregor. Obi Wan living a mundane day to day existence while suffering from PTSD was an interesting angle and i was curious to see how that played out but my optimism was short lived. By the 2nd episode it was clear that the first was a fluke and that this show was a classic "bait & switch". Obi Wan Kenobi is yet just another Disney Star Wars show that falls victim to an awful story, writing, script, casting & acting. Disney's priorities aren't to tell a great story, make a great movie or tv show, it's to push their politics and force diversity at all costs. There is a clear agenda being pushed by Disney, Hollywood and many media outlets and I genuinely worry for the future of the movie/tv industry. A future where creativity is dead, where telling a great story is an afterthought and one where if you dare criticise their mediocrity then you are dismissed as "racist", a "Misogynist" or some other "ist".
The Last Duel (2021)
A movie for the #MeToo times
The premise for the movie had potential with the story being told from three points of view. It started off solidly enough if you were to ignore the distracting strong American accents but it completely falls apart from the final third. The movie then makes it clear that the females point of view is the actual truth and quickly pushes modern day woke, PC values through the historical setting (Women are great at everything, always tell the truth and Men are lying, incompetent, ego driven predators. It's no surprise that this movie bombed at the Cinemas.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
A pretty good movie...for kids
Unlike the original Ghostbusters, this movie is clearly aimed at kids. Enjoyable enough in patches with some good elements but let down by a lack of detail and some over the top ridiculous scenes. As with most modern movies this one suffers from some sloppy, lazy writing where elements are forced just to make the plot work.
It's a movie that cannot be compared to the original and should be viewed purely for
what it is, a kids movie. Still, it's 100 times better than the 2016 all female train wreck of a movie.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Pretentious, preachy & woke.
MidnightMass is such a poorly written, preachy, woke show. A small island with a interracial couple, a Muslim sheriff, a smug lead woman that is full of pretentious monologues and every white male in it is either evil, weak, incompetent or corrupt. The dialogue is clunky and elements of the story are nonsensical. I worry about the future of TV and cinema.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
A decent BB episode but poor stand alone movie
This isn't a movie. It's a feature length TV episode. While it was enjoyable to spend more time with Jessie it really wasn't needed. The writer/director also missed an opportunity to make a great cat and mouse chase between the police and Jessie. At no point in the movie did I feel Jessie was in danger and it fell a little flat. If you are a Breaking Bad fan it's definitely worth watching and enjoyable without being great. If you have never watched BB before then you will likely see this as a pretty poor movie.
It Chapter Two (2019)
Enjoyable movie but could have been better.
An enjoyable movie let down only by it's length (2hrs 50 is far too long), being over sentimental/cheesy in parts and some poorly placed humour (during scenes that are meant to be scary).
The Dirt (2019)
A breath of fresh air
Ignore the "professional" critics who are clearly too scared to say anything positive about this movie given the current climate of over sensitivity and political correctness. This is a biopic based on events that actually happened so toning it down to fit in with our very recent socially acceptable standards would be doing it a great injustice. This movie is sex, drugs and rock n roll at its debauched best. The movie is both heartfelt and funny and gives a brief glimpse into the life of an 80s rock band. If you are easily offended, don't watch it. It's that simple. This is not a movie full of unicorns, rainbows and fluffy rabbits.
The Culture High (2014)
One sided biased propaganda
I watched this documentary hoping to view a balanced argument from those for and against the legalisation of cannabis but it was anything but. I have never watched such a one sided and biased documentary. I sat through over one hour of this brain dead propaganda presented by comedians and rappers. The arguments for legalisation were extremely weak and naive and the documentary did not feature a single person arguing against it. It is obvious that those behind this film are pot heads themselves. Ignore all the ridiculously high scores on this site as they have obviously been set by the smokers themselves. If you would like to see an intelligent balanced argument for and against cannabis I'm afraid that you won't find it here.
