Girls Trip (2017)
Just another generic cliché movie.
I went with an open mind into this movie but it is the same crap, only in a different wrapper. The script is unimaginative or new. IT HAS BEEN DONE but once where it was the cliché white people it is now replaced with the cliché black people including the urban myth of black slongs being large ( no people no. SCIENCE showed that only 0.5% of the males have enlarged male parts. the rest, 99% have normal sized and 0.5% are small. Steroid use makes male parts shrink and seeing most of these actors are hitting the juice....)
In short this crappy z movie is filled with horrible cliche's idiotic dialogue and one of the worst acting i have ever seen in a long long time. IF you enjoy watching generic crap, filled with chiches then this is right up your alley. If you are more of the normal kind of people you will not like this crap at all. STAY AWAY from this movie at all costs.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Avoid at all Costs if you are a lifelong star trek fan!!!
I had really high hopes for this new star trek series. Before i forget SPOILERS will be included because this is just utter malarkey. After star trek enterprise with captain Archer and his intrepid crew it was a whole lot of a nothing burger. No more exploring strange new worlds and meeting new civilizations, having diplomacy and TALKING to solve problems etc. and true trekkies were playing reruns, reading ebooks to get their much needed fusion of star trek.
If you are looking for that in this series; be prepared to be disappointed ( except for the first 3 minutes or so in episode 1). The majority of the "action" comprises of FIGHTING aliens! I call them aliens because they are a far cry from the true Klingon from the other series ( this will probably be explained that there was a huge genetic manipulation whatever going on..sigh). This series killed the spirit of star trek in these two episodes. Instead of focusing in on positive, exploring nature we all have it puts a lens on "WAR AND FIGHTING" something that is INSANELY BORING. IF we want cool space battles we will go and watch star wars.
In a sense it is a near exact carbon copy of star wars with a star trek-esque veneer on it. Galactic demonized society that is all for war? Check. A trigger happy officer that instigate a fight? CHECK. Now only 2 episodes in it is a HUGE FAILURE and betrayal to the franchise.
Now the script and story are OK-ish from a distance but once you get immersed in it, it doesn't make sense and the script seems to be written by a 4 year old fumbles mc stupid who FUBAR-ed it up, just to put in pew pew LASERS and other fancy colors in.
-example of the bad script problem: the first officer, who got to Vulcan, lived as a Vulcan and had next to no emotions is suddenly even more bloodthirsty than a Klingon. Vulcans are pacifists and do not attack first, nor are they trigger happy or show emotion ( another sign the bumbling moron "writer" knows jack squat what he/she is writing about becomes apparent throughout the two episodes.... painfully so in both star trek lore and human condition/ culture). There was a scene were the best and most logical action was to capture the attacker. Instead of capturing him the first officer KILLED HIM and she is supposed to have grown up on Vulcan ( the logic and pacifist world and people in the star trek universe)
Some reviewers are of the same idea and i can label this series as JACS: Just Another Crappy Series. Why do I say this and how do I know this? The evidence is in the script which seems to be written by some star wars lover who thought it to be cool to have as many pew pew guns in star trek. If you think star trek is about war and pew pew guns you should be fired or at least NOT call yourself a "trekkie" or a star trek fan.
When the script is this bad no matter who you have in your cast it will still suck. Though I have to say the cast does its best but still.. i think even Sir Patrick Steward wouldn't be able to save this train wreck called star trek"discovery".
There were rumors floating around of "political undertones" that would be interwoven in the narrative. There are some hints of it in there but it is not as bad as it could have been. No what bothers me more that "political crap" in scripts is that the amateurish writers of this series do not take into account the already established lore. The Vulcan thing I already explained but there are more.
The klingons do not look like the ones in the previous series Klingons. Supposedly this "discovery" is being set AFTER star trek enterprise with captain archer ( which was when the Klingons looked like Klingons and where the smooth human looking augments came from/lack of cranial ridges) and before star trek the original series with captain Kirk. Again these Klingons looked like Klingons of the lore ( even though they were looking like augmented klingons without cranial ridges. Worf hinted on it when they got thrown back in time ( tripple episode) )
Yeah some of you readers might say it is a "virus" whatever but even that does not explain it either. Genetic mutation is also not an option because you still have people of a society that looks like regularly klingons while others may seem some form of bastardized form while others are completely different ( so the "science" in this series is LAUGHABLE at best)
So no I do not recommend this series to any star trek fan. It is horribly poorly written by a 4 year old who is obsessed with pew pew guns a la star war and also with clichés with a splash of political correctness and political rhetoric.
I gave it a 2/10, which I rarely give to a series. I suspect that if they do not get their script straightened out in the next 1-3 episodes it will drop like a brick. Congratulations Hollyweed, you wrecked another great genre I and millions of others love. That is what you get when you hire fumbles mc stupids as writers.
Mother! (2017)
On my growing list of the worst movie I've seen.
I get a lot of free movie theater tickets so I see a lot of movies. So I thought why not "go with the flow" and see the movie "Mother!" The theater was half filled so it was an OK turn out. However I saw over 50 people leave around 30 min in, mumbling and grumbling. So at the end of the film when filing out I heard a bunch of criticisms like " what a piece of cr**p" and "can i get a refund for this x-movie" and "false advertisement".
I completely agree with these assessments and viewpoints. Here is why: *False advertisement: movie is not as it was advertised.
*script: written by a dialectic child, filled with cliche's, fake stuff up the wazoo and is even worse than the worst movie I have ever seen ( for the record that was Himalaya where the nearly 3 hours movie plot is about getting Yaks over the Himalaya's)
*Directing: Honestly even lower than an amateur and novice combined. The eunuch that directed this "piece" is less competent than the most incompetent Youtuber.
*Camera position: UTTERLY FUBAR.. but then that is what you get when you have 6 year old ( or someone with a mental capacity of a 6 year old) directing a "movie" where your girlfriend plays the main role.
*Acting: From bad to abysmally horrible. The often blank expressions and the hellishly faux script is part of the problem but Jennifer L looked like she was on something when they did this ... erm.. "movie". Seriously lady: you need to get that checked out, it is like some bad tick or something.
Publicity debacle a la Irma: this is where Jennifer L is saying that "Gaia"/"mother Earth" is punishing the US for voting Trump and that "she was OK with hurricanes destroying people's houses and belongings". Not a smart move Jennifer, not a good move. What you SHOULD HAVE DONE to promote your movie was to go down to Florida and HELP PEOPLE. Oh well the mask is now literately on the ground so the people can see who you really are.
Final thoughts and conclusion: AVOID AT ALL COST!!! This is currently one of my worst movie experiences ever.
The Defenders (2017)
A nice bag of jumbled hotness. Not a season; its a mini-series
Like many others, I am getting a bit tired of the "Superhero" movies and series out there. Don't get me wrong, some of them are good while others range from mediocre to meh to bad.
nevertheless i kept an open mind going into this new series. Since it is a continuation of 4 superheroes, Luke cage/Jessica Jones/Daredevil/Iron fist, it could be interesting. Personally I didn't like the weak Iron Fist first season ( which was a "meh" rating for me).
Still I tried to put my reservations about superhero series aside and started watching with an open mind. The first two episodes were, sorry to say, the same as Iron Fist first episodes. Very slow, dull even at moments and there were a lot of "jump cuts" style things were once you got into one characters story it all of a sudden jumped to another. For example first you start with Iron fist hunting someone and then after a couple minutes it jumps to Luke cage in prison.
I get why they try to do it, a kind of comic-esque style of nostalgia, but it can be a bit distracting. Its like reading a novel where the author makes jumps from one character to another over 40 times in a chapter.
However they abandon that stuff after the second episode ( or maybe they fired the person making all those unnecessary gazillion jump cuts and jumps between characters). After the third episode it picks up speed.
All in all not extreme bad nor extreme good. It hovers somewhere in the middle overall speaking. the first two episodes were dull, the third was better and the other 5 were good to great. Like the title suggest a nice bag of jumbled hotness.
I will give this a 7/10 rating because of the acting, how the episodes tie into the marvel universe, despite some clichés it was good. Now I took also into consideration that there are only 8 episodes. Most series have 20-26 episodes so that is 3 times more that this "series" has. If people are going to keep calling it "series" you will get less and less episodes for your buck so to speak.
Let us all agree: either put more episodes in so you can call it a series or keep it as it is and call it a mini-series.
Dunkirk (2017)
Great movie that is historically correct.
I went to see this and i was truly surprised. Historical accurate and a "must see". Acting: top notch, script: excellent, historical correct; excellent and as as close to historically correct as you can get. Of course there is some dramatization but all in all one of the best movies so far.
there have been voices and moaners out there that are calling "history is not diverse enough" and other BS like that ( yes USA today I am looking at you, fake news outlet). Let the history to academic historians and history buffs not politicizing history for your own gains so you can get a few more eyeballs ( and thus more pay). Just stop it with this diversity BS . You re looking to history through modern day extremely fumbles mc stupid biased glasses. Just stop it before you humiliate yourselves.
Fact: great movie, excellent acting and great action. A must see!
Expedition Unknown (2015)
Keeping an open mind and an ultimate must watch series.
Whenever I see Josh Gates I find out what the great guy is up to. Now Expedition unknown is really solid on the academic approach and source materials which is a huge plus. Josh isn't someone who will dismiss things out of hand because " it is folklore" or whatever. But then I would expect nothing less from someone who went to a reputable university.
About the show itself: there are some weird ones in it but he tries to remain neutral and only giving his educated opinion at the end of the show. Now he does seem to be over enthusiastic at times which can lead to hilarious situations ( like him falling, jumping off stuff(nearly plunging to his death) etc) So it is quite fun to see what he does next.
He also keep things up to date with the scientific methods and practices so it is a true show you have to watch.
Forbidden History (2013)
Pseudo historical but entertaining.
A lot of these so called "history documentaries" are part fact but mostly fiction and some do not even have that much facts in them. I kind of have it with people that proclaim they are "historians" while failing basic academic modus operandi.
Do I expect some great academic approach to a topic? Well not completely but if your fumble and fail to use actual sources, it is kind of huge red flag that you are in fact not a historian ( or that your degree comes from a crappy university)
Is it entertaining.. 50-50. Some episodes are OK-ish while others are borderline bad. This program feels more like a promotion stunt for the writers that come on this program than actual informing people. For example: when they are discussing Arthur and ALL of them said that " there was no evidence and that it was all a ruse by the church to get funding blah blah blah". Then a real historian comes to on and SHOWS THE ACTUAL EVIDENCE!!! Manuscripts and books from before the "Arthurian legendary tales" actually were written. I mean if you ignore pretty important evidence like these source materials you clearly have no clue what you are doing and in every academic perspective you are not an academic as such. Is image of Arthur romanticized? Yes, but according to the evidence there was a person called Arthur, who fought many battles against the Saxons.
I would rate this show at a 3/10 because of the factual incorrect ramblings of some of the "experts" who aren't experts. Either you are doing a historical documentary or you are doing fiction. Don't fumble mc stupid it up and get impressionable people confused. You want a great show that is factual accurate AND keeps an open mind when talking to academics, real experts ( not the self-proclaimed drivel this show is having) you should pick Destination Truth and Expedition unknown and even Expedition Mungo. "Forbidden history" is not history it is a farce, put together by writers of fiction who then proclaim to be historians but really aren't.
To watch or not to watch? I would recommend "not watch" unless you want to be bored to tears by the so-called "experts". Lot of flash-words, which means a lot of awe but no substance.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Average OK.
I was hoping for something more for this movie. However the acting was: OK, the script was: OK, the visual effects and everything surrounding it is ...again OK.
It is a good re-edited version of Disnesys beauty and the beast cartoon movie but it wasn't as good as it could be. Nevertheless it is a good film you can watch with the children or with your girlfriend.
For me it was just an average movie, nothing spectacular or different, just an old Disney movie in a new dress so to speak.
Hidden Figures (2016)
Pleasantly surprised
My GF dragged me to this one ( agreed i also wanted to see it hehe) and we were both pleasantly surprised. I first thought it was a " Hollywood-esque dumbed down oversimplification and exagiration of historical facts".
However this was not the case. It is a great movie ( better than the Januari "action movies") and is a must see for all. the script was great and add to that some very talented actresses you got a clear win.
Of course some people will take this opportunity to view past events through modern day glasses and paint an "anti white" picture and fumbles mc stupid-ed from point A in the past to point B in modern times. Some even use it to further someone elses political standpoint. All of you should let the history for academic historians ( not the people who think that doing research about the past make them qualified as historians)
Returning to the film it is a clear and worthy 8/10
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016)
Stand alone "movie" with no connection to the franchise.
I was hoping that this one would be a great continuation of the series of movies. This was a vain expectation. The ridiculous camera positions, switching back and forth, shaky cameras, the black scenes were every 2 seconds there is a muzzle flash, no coherent story and what i can only describe as "one of the worst scripts i have ever heard" it is no wonder a majority of people were just walking out of the theater complaining a lot.
I stayed till the end but it was more painful than the flop of 2016: the reboot of Ghost busters.
Conclusion: do not waste your time and money. Some people might get sick from the weird camera snot they pulled so if you want to feel sick, go drink some crappy beer, that is even cheaper than a theater ticket.
Finding Bigfoot (2011)
Its so bad you can't stop watching.
This is one of the worst shows out there in the, what i call "myth shows". I've seen a lot but this "gem" gets the first place. Whenever you see academics in the rain forest, looking for new animals they DO NOT make a whole lot of noise and KEEP QUIET! Even hunters and fishermen/women sit still and as quiet as can be before they can see any game.
There are only 2 interesting people on that show: Bobo and Cliff. Matt seems like a jerk on occasions and Renea or whatever she is called (the so called hardcore skeptic and "self-proclaimed academic") is not as smart. Rule nr one, you want to see some animal you do no not go yelling and hooting through the forest at night. You keep as quiet as you can be.
However it is kind of fun seeing some grown men and women stumbling in the dark making a complete fool of themselves. thus a 3-4/10 for this one.
Timeless (2016)
mashup of Quantum leap, back to the future and stargate.
Yes i gave this one "only" a four because of some very heavy SJW/feminist propaganda in the beginning. "My mother created this department and as such I need to have a cushy job" regardless if you are qualified or not. It is quite whiny and I was half tempted to change channels but its like a huge accident waiting to happen and you just can't look away. Also the cliché of a female "hero" without any flaws is very prevalent.
Now the script was 50-50. It was horrible in the beginning but it balanced itself out somewhat when the action is actually beginning and they actually leave and "go back" into the past.
Acting: Well, nothing special to write home about. Of course if actors get a crappy script it is hard to make a good number of episodes. The start was horrible and kind of over the top. It kind of represents certain women that act all entitled and because her mother got this or that job, they need the same position, qualified or not. Besides talking about someone who actually holds multiple university masters degrees, it will take a long time to get them all, provided you don't have any bad encounters with the professors or just unlucky. Thus the "history professor" is way too young. 4 years to get your masters and than hope you get accepted for your doctorate/PhD which can be 4 or 8 years. Even then it isn't a guarantee that you get a teaching position.Besides a"history professor" is only " an expert" in a certain field, not of ALL history. The Woman that was casted is way too young for someone that holds multiple degrees PLUS is a professor on top of it all.
Sigh it is not really a good couple of episodes so far. If you like the" let us go back to the past" nonsense, which is everywhere nowadays (from hero series to this kind of whatever this series is)
Conclusion: It is another reboot of a mashup of three shows and a movie and yes, it could be great but the story is all over the place, hectic and in my opinion horribly executed. So normally My score would be a flat out 2 but i am in a generous mood, plus it could get better if we get more episodes, though don't get your hopes up. So if you like the "let us go back to the past but with a bad script, this one is for you.
MacGyver (2016)
Lot of potential but a complete first episode fail.
First off; i have nothing against reboots IF they are done right. Sprucing up the tech or the story is great but it seems Hollywood and writers are running out of imagination and have some serious lack of talent. We have reboots of star wars, star trek and now this piece of i don't know what to call it.
There are so many bad thing in this first episode that it is not fun to watch. Bad acting. CBS or whoever genius came up with rebooting Macgyver should have spent more money in hiring decent writers and actors than they have currently employed. Seriously bad script. I have the feeling it is more like a one dimensional script with overtly predictable turns in the plot a 4 year old could point them out (one of the reasons it gets a 4)
If the series continues like this it will not be long before it falls flat on its face again and again. Of course this piece of ... will probably run long seasons because it caters to the no-brainers in the society.
Conclusion: Loads of potential but they blew it with bad actors and a horrible script ( my suggestion: Fire the writers, I can do a better job than they)
Bull (2016)
Refreshing.
The first episode just aired and it was a great one. Throw in Michael Weatherly with Dr Phill and you get a great series. The acting is great with some familiar faces here and there. It is also based on science and that is always nice to see in a series.
Of course it is just one episode but it shows great promise. There are some broad similarities with other series out there (mentalist and others) but it is has that special spin.
Conclusion: Quite promising if you want to see something that is completely different and is hinged on facts. If you like intellectual intriguing series, this is one for you ( as far as episode one is concerned).
Ross Kemp: Extreme World (2011)
Raw, great and different viewpoints. As objective as one can be.
I absolutely love this series. Ross Kemp, British investigative journalist, always keeps an open mind and is respectful to the people he is interviewing. There are great episodes and it is very good.
The topics have a wide range; from upcoming far right movements in Asia to the illegal immigrants in the US, He shoots straight and tells it like it is.
This also entails certain dangers but still he manages to pull it off and give even the hardest criminal some humanity. How do they get to this point? Why do they do this? Are there part of their lives that made them like this?
He also interviews the other side as well and shows that we are all human. He creates some much needed objectivity in an otherwise very biased news world.
Conclusion: A must watch documentary ( all of Ross Kemp's documentaries are great and top notch) for all who want to have the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Ghost Hunters (2004)
From a 7ish to a low3-4 /10.
All these paranormal show I take with a grain of salt.. OK a lot of salt! I never exclude the possibility of something "paranormal" directly out of hand but if activity is so high that you can make over 12 seasons worth of "investigations" something is fishy. There seems to be more "paranormal activity" in the US than in places like EU, Asia or Africa combined.
I have watched a lot of these shows and i very much liked the first four seasons. Those seasons i would rate around 7 ish. OK maybe add season five for good measure. there were some things that i didn't like (Jason Hawes acting like a world class jerk to people who actually volunteer and are "friends" with him that are on the show like Brian, Andy and others.. if i did this in real life, jeez i wouldn't have any friends at all.. work on that attitude dude). Here are some things i really liked: Looking for explanations that are not paranormal ( pipes banging, clogged WC or just some worn out tabs). Some people that move from city to countryside hear things that can be easily explained and should be ruled out first.
However it became clear that there was a lot of faking going on and that it was strong with this series in particular.Especially when their "live actions investigations" were a total bust and you could see the twine hanging. Not saying it is Jason or anyone of his team, who are generally OK people, but still it does make your show a bit of a joke. Why? Because people will dismiss everything out of hand labeling it as "fake" from the get-go.
After a couple seasons of this fake stuff, along with some people i really didn't like like Steve, Dave is cool though, the drama and mudslinging towards other paranormal shows began. Some were even more entertaining than the Ghost hunters show themselves. They instigated it by having a potshot at the guys at Ghost Adventures. rule nr. one never come between fans and their favorite shows if you want to live. This drama enfolded a bit, probably because the ratings were dropping ( nice tactic guys (sarcastically) )
Conclusion: best seasons are the first five, the rest is going downhill fast where some should be rated as low as a one. Suggestion: maybe entertaining if it is the holidays and there is nothing else on the TV.
PS i have watched every single paranormal show ever made so i know what i am talking about :)
Ghost Hunters International (2008)
better than ghost hunters.
This "ghost hunters" spin off takes you to all kinds of interesting places around the world. The first season team was awesome and i liked it very much. The people "acting" normal" though some woman was a bit whiny. Yeah you accepted a job walking through abandoned churches at night. Yeah you can fall down flat on your face but hey it is a job like another :)
By season two and three there were a lot of people just passing the revue. Some very cool guys and girls simply left for no clear reason. I think it had to do that the team was way smoother than jason and Grant ever were and that the ratings were equal height or even higher than the original Ghost hunters.
However great locations that are tourist attractions are always suspicious. Yes history is great and all but don't you think in the back of your mind that these "places" aren't just creating "ghost stories" to scare themselves and drum up business?
Conclusion: Great to watch for entertainment and if there is nothing else on TV. You will get to see some great places in the world and learn a bit about history at the same time, though some of it is highly questionable ( source wise)
Bad Moms (2016)
contender of the most horrible movie of 2016
We had been treated on a real horror-esque fest this summer. From botched up remakes of movies to well bad moms. There are no redeeming qualities. At least the new Ghostbusters had me laughing a bit now and again but this movie is nearly as bad as Himalaya, a three + hour movie i was forced to watch in highschool of how indigenous people herd their yaks over the mountain paths. I never walked out on a movie, except on this one.
But back to the movie. Really Really bad script, not funny, man hating, failure to communicate and no sense of humor sums this erghm "movie" up quite nicely. basically story goes like this; Women make active choices they later regret ( like finding wealthy men and marrying them, plus having kids while sitting at home or just fail to produce anything noteworthy because of the lack of education... because they got children quite early). Then the say enough is enough.. go girlpower.. and act like deranged immature college frat boys/girls. Then they roll stupid and immature with each other and smash it into one big pretzel of fail.
So conclusion: actresses, though still easy on the eyes seem to be the ones with their careers winding down ( some aren't as good of an actress to begin with). the so called humor is so immature that it is facepalm retch worthy. The script is even worse and yes, one could argue that actresses can't shine if the script is terrible.
To end there is a disturbing trend in Hollywood where in certain movies the "hate" for one or more groups, oftentimes men in general, can see oozing like a slimer that just flew through the theater screen. Directors some advice: keep your SJW/feminasty social construct politics and Utopian dreams out of a movie that could have been OK-ish if you had bothered writing a half decent script.
Suicide Squad (2016)
OK-ish film but I expected more.
In all honesty I would give the movie a 6.5/10 but it fails to preform for a 7/10. Pros for the the movie: absolutely great cast, all in all good story kind of in the DC universe setting and lore. Bad things: Well the plot and script are kind of a bag of mixed things. It is not as bad as the recent ghostbusters but it fails to deliver( especially in the end). A rather big group of people that sat in front of me were grumbling quite a lot (i assume that they were fans)
Conclusion: is it worth the 18$ entrance fee? Well it depends. I kind of liked it but some aspects ( shoddy humor also in the movie) so I am on the fence a bit. If you like DC and comics in general, you should go and watch it in the theaters but if you are a casual movie lover, wait until it is on hulu, vudu or netflix ( or on bluray) Is the "curse of DC" broken? Well this movie was OK-ish but saying that the curse has been broken is a bridge too far in my opinion.
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Lots of flash, next to no substance.
I love star trek but what Abrams has done now is just horrible. Yes the cast is good, the script... not so much. The fans are getting sick and tired of the "Explosions" and CGI (which is about 75% of the movie) and come to think of it, the latest star trek has way too many similarities with star wars. Thus the title: lots of Flash but no substance.I will not run through everything that is wrong with the movie because it will make this review so long nobody will read it anyway.
All in all just another hyped up movie ( like the latest star wars movie TFA) with parallels with the first movie of 2009. If you like star trek i advise you to wait until the film comes out on bluray or is available on hulu, vudu, Netflix or any other streaming service. It is not worth the theater ticket.
Conclusion: 5/10 an average movie that flirts with clichés, bad script and even worse CGI" explosions" ( but they that is Abrams for you)
Ghostbusters (2016)
Close but no cigar.
I've heard the arguments of all sides. feminists are mad, other people are crazy, other people and liberal feminists are liking this this movie and DMCA people who do not share their viewpoint.. In short I've seen the whole soap opera surrounding the "new ghost busters".
First let me congratulate the cast for doing a great job under extremely difficult circumstances ( like horribly bad script, hey even brad Pitt or Sean Connery couldn't make this movie look good with the current script). There were some funny kind of slapstick jokes in there but overall the script was guano crazy (not in a good way). yes there are stereotypes in the movie but hey its a movie! Watch and enjoy ( though for me, the horrible script ruined the experience). That said the cast was great but the bad script is what ruined the experience and the movie for me.
CGI is also not the best and the colors seem to belong on a cheap China toy. Sigh another disappointment .. kinda. Now the movie isn't all that bad as some anti ghostbusters ( current movie) make it out to be.
It all depend what you expect of the movie. Is it the same witty zingers as the original ghostbusters? No. Is it entertaining? That is something you have to decide yourself. I found it OK ( that is why i gave it a 6/10). Is it worth seeing in the movie theater or waiting until it is available to stream or on blue ray? I suggest you all wait until it appears on netflix, hulu, prime or other streaming services or even if you want to spend money on it buy the blue ray. In my humble opinion it is not its money's worth.
Warcraft (2016)
OK movie. for a non fan
There may be some spoilers in here. I haven't played WoW at all but i've seen some twitch streams. I am not a fan of WOW and i never will be a fan.
However i did give the movie a try. Script was alright but way too much CGI for my taste. However it is good CGI but it is way over the top. The story is surprisingly OK, but then they have to get it right at least one time.
I was kind of surprised to see Dominic Cooper from the marvel franchise hop in and take the place as the king... as well as some people from marvel's agents of shield.
Conclusion: its an OK movie that is kind of enjoyable to watch but it is way too much hyped, like most of these movies, mainly by the gamers of WoW. So i suggest anyone who hasn't seen the movie to ignore those 8-9/10 because they are hopelessly biased.
I gave it a 6/10 because of the excessive CGI, the story was kind of OK but there were glaring problems and way too many one liners or cheesy lines. Too hyped up like many of these films ( Batman v superman, the latest xmen movie, the captain America civil war... don't get me wrong they are OK-ish but not worth to see in the movie theater)I also led my friends opinion guide me so if you are not a fan of the WoW franchise steer clear and wait for bluray/streaming services. It will be way cheaper.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016)
Just another OK movie.
Spoilers ahead!!!
We went to see this movie, just after Warcraft. This movie was so full of clichés (like the mini-big death star thing "command ship" and the looptiloops Mickey made to get the beacon to the cheesy one liners).
Some of my friends just walked out mid movie ( stupid move because you paid for it) because they found it horribly bad. Yeah there is Megan Fox in it but that doesn't have to determine the rating of a movie. The script was not that good but seeing that it is nickelodeon that is also on the intro it isn't surprising. The villains are so shallow and kind of too trusting.
Conclusion: OK-ish movie but target audience is clearly teens. My advice don't see it in the movies but rather wait till it comes out on streaming services or on bluray.
Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (2016)
Criminal minds: beyond borders full of clichés
First the idea and setting is alright. FBI going around the world to solve crimes that involve US citizens. The cast is also great and there is some good acting in these episodes. there will be some small spoilers in here so if you don't want to see it, you can stop right here.
That is where the good end and the bad is introduced. First of all the script. It is full of clichés and in some parts a hint of racism can be detected, even if you are not looking for it. In one episode they address the phenomenon of "herbivore men" (men not interested in women) in Japan as a stir crazy man that shoots/maims and kills Americans. In another episode they portray Basks, northern region of Spain, as crazed people who go on a kidnapping spree. Add to that some really weird world views and a splash of political correctness and you arrive to this kind of bad TV show. there are others in there but that is up to you to discover them, if you decide to watch criminal minds beyond borders.
Don't get me wrong; the acting is top notch as is the idea of solving crimes around the world and if the company that made this show would have invested a bit more money in decent script writers, it would be a great show. However the clichés are dripping of every episode that it makes the whole show sadly worse. Even a friend who is notoriously political correct is having serious issues with this show.
My advice; watch it for yourselves but be warned about the clichés, the political correctness and other obstacles you will encounter in this TV show. Criminal minds ( the original series) is 10000% better than this.
Tropes vs. Women in Video Games (2013)
Amateurish at best and cherry picking "proof".
Now i try to approach everything with an open mind but this is just ridiculous. Not because the creator is a woman, or that i am a man or whatever but pure on how the "series" has been constructed, the use of "research" and the fact that well, with my 4 master degrees from actual universities that are among the top 30 best in the world I think i earned the right to criticize this piece of youtube videos.
Pro: The only positive i could find it the objective: finding how women have been portrayed in video games.
Con: -Cherry picking "evidence" and saying that this is the only true proof is con artist like reasoning. If you want to prove something exists your have to look at ALL the evidence; not just the highly biased "evidence " you declare as good and true (because it validates your objective which is "everything is sexist" ). That is why real research is best left to those with one or more masters degrees from reputable universities because they have the tools to accomplish this 100000000000% better. -Fails to see the correlation between culture of the times ( going from the 1996 games directly to 2013 games), the business climate, who played the games etc. Businesses do not make games for a niche group of players. -So "well researched" that she completely misses the back story, the lore, the history, the narrative, etc of the stories in games, persons and even superheroes ( See the DC batman games and how catwoman moves.. have you seen a cat move.. its gracefully.. have you seen catwoman move in comics/TV series/cartoons... its GRACEFUL with a tad bit of using her female characteristics to get what she wants) -Academic research has shown that, just like with real world violence and video games, sexism is NOT influenced by videogames. This makes the video series even more null and void.
Conclusion: one of the worst youtube shows out there. Don't confuse youtube show with TV series because a TV series has to follow a certain pattern of episodes that will come out at a scheduled date and is backed by a major media concern. None apply to sarkeesian farce of youtube clips. It also reeks of propaganda to which an amateurish goebels would be proud. This youtube nonsense has no value whatsoever because you can pull the support beams from under the "women vs tropes" and "everything is racist, sexist .. and you have to point it all out" which results in the collapse of both theories. Avoid at all costs if you love women because all this will do is reaffirm 19th century values, misconceptions and plant a seed of hatred towards woman.
