Rabhasa (2014)
Best way to blow your Mind
First of all, I want to make it clear that I used to be a big fan of NTR until he used to make movies like Adhurs and Brindaavanam and I still gave him a chance after the disappointing Baadshah and Ramayya Vastavayya, but this one is seriously frustrating.
The director had no plot in his mind, he just wanted to project the hero as a larger than life as most of the films these days do. He just created a couple of scenes in which the hero is projected as 'God' for all the 'divine' stuff he does(like sacrificing his love, forgiving others, trying to patch up a family for no reason, etc.)and then combined them all with a senseless screenplay. The screenplay doesn't any sense at all. And the fights are hilarious. I think NTR is trying to beat Balayya in this department(and he is successful I must say!)
The way the story progresses is truly hilarious. And look at the coincidences in the movie: The guy who the heroine calls randomly to save a couple(and that guy can be anywhere in the whole country, but he is just few kilometers away from her!!! wow) - is the same guy who happens to be her cousin - the same guy who comes to cast cheap tricks to impress her(and the way he confuses with someone else instead of her is something you should not miss). The way the heroine is convinced that the guy who saved the couple is also praise-worthy. The villains are eager to kill their own brother-in- law but the hero who is a stranger to that family is vying to save him!!!!
Acting: NTR is as usual good but gets nothing new to do in this stale script. Samantha is okay. Nassar, Jayaprakash and Jayasudha are plain mediocres who are palying their routine characters once again. Rest all: ajay, brahmanandam, ali, shinde and others are only overacting.
Verdict: One of the worst films ever made in Tollywood. I hope NTR becomes carefull while choosing 'masala' scripts from next time because even balayya and kalyanram are these days coming up with watchable stuff.
Tevar (2015)
An insult on the face of the cult Telugu movie 'Okkadu'
Nothing was worth watch in this yawning film other than manoj bajpayee. Arjun looks good as the action hero(he's got a good personality) but his presence is eaten away by the sore screenplay. Sonakshi- let's not talk about her.
Okkadu starring Mahesh Babu, Bhoomika Chawla and Prakash Raj was an all-time blockbuster and cult movie for many reasons which was the reason I was excited to watch this movie. Unfortunately I couldn't catch it in the theatres because of the poor response and I few days ago I saw it on TV but it didn't even worth my time.
People are comparing bang bang and brothers to their Hollywood versions and insulting them(which is true) so now I am going to compare it with few parts in the Telugu version to prove why this film was so bad.
1. Movie is about a kabaddi player so an important essence of the plot lies in kabaddi. In fact, the climax of all the south versions was in the kabaddi with the national kabaddi game as the pre-climax. But here there is only 1 kabaddi match that too in 'Rajinikanth' style!!!????
2. There was very melodious song in all the south versions in the 2nd half in the moonlight with the charminar in the background and it is presented by the hero, his sister and their respective friends to make the actress feel happy. But here, that song is replaced by a senseless party song????
There are many other reasons like this. But apart from these the major drawback is the screenplay of the film which is toooooooooooo boring and slow. Otherwise, just like for mahesh babu this film would have made arjun the next big thing in bollywood.
Airlift (2016)
This film proves that bollywood can make non-commercial mainstream movie
Usually we expect a bollywood film to be full of commercial elements like power packed dialogues with heavy background music, melodrama and an unnecessary love track and I expected something similar to that in Airlift but no!
Director Raja Menon has done a very deep research on the entire subject and very carefully brings it on the screen. This film only shows us the reality and doesn't get into any other commercial elements like most of other films these days do. Like in that scene where Ibrahim tells Ranjit about his missing half-wedded wife, his eyes tell you everything and he doesn't go on delivering a 2 page dialogue. That's one of the moments where we understand how the director wants to present the movie.
There are a few enjoyable parts like the Mr. George track. There is an item song also in the beginning to lure the masses.
Camera work is excellent and is one of the major highlights in the film. Rest all departments have also done their job very well.
Talking about the performances, it's Akshay Kumar who as usual steals the show. He has not portrayed but lived the character of Ranjit Katyal. He's perfect in each and every scene. He looks superb with the salt-n-pepper beard (He's been in this look for almost 6 months) and that's really a brave decision by any big actor like him since it affects his image. He proves that he isn't obsessed with the factor of looking young and charming(he was looking kind-of old with the long hairstyle in 'Entertainment')
Nimrat Kaur gets less scope compared to what was expected from an actress like her but still she's good. Purab Kohli is effective as Ibrahim. Kumud Mishra(as Kohli) is also good. Rest all junior artists have done their parts well.
I appreciate Akshay Kumar for doing films like this because apparently he's the only actor in bollywood or maybe in the entire country who is trying to bring films like Special 26 and Airlift into the mainstream category.
Conclusion - Bollywood must make more non-commercial movies like this if it really want to be in the Oscar race.
