Dune (2021)
6/10
Longest prequel ever
6 May 2024
I waited until now, year 2024 to watch this movie. And damn what a long prequel. Yes because this folks, was literally just a prequel!

A prequal based on the main charecters dreams and visions nonetheless. Its 2,5 hours but almost nothing happens that could not have been fitted in like 30 min, for real.

I don't know what was worse, it being a prequal or the very bad screen script because yes whoever wrote that script that was one of the most boring screen scripts I have seen. I have not read the book so I am basing this only on the script.

The actors were great, of course except for the main character. Chalamet who I have seen in two movies where he actually was good had in this movie Dune just one good acting moment.

And that was when he was seeing those terrible things in a vision he has. And thats it. Rest of the movie he is more like a movie extra barely doing anything then existing. I don't think its Chalamets fault, I blame the bad script and also the director for not being able to direct it well.

I give it 6 stars just because of Fergussons and Isaacs good acting.

Really bad and egoistical character
10 March 2023
As in really badly and irrationally written main character.

As a female I was especially excited about this show having a strong female main character. This main character also seemed to have good morales, she did not wanna get involved with the drug trafficking world because she has a little son to care for.

In the end she did get involved, very involved and it was not by accident, no she did choose it herself. This is where I lost all interest and care for this character. She turned out to be super selfish and started to lie to herself that it was about getting cash for her kid

When in was more about she enjoying the power. Also if she cared so much about getting herself and her kid out of this world, why did she started to work hard to get this drug money?! It would mean she would risk her kids life even more with people coming after them?!

Salim was the only great character in this series. Really interesting character to follow and the actor played it very well!

I had great sympathy for Salim and zero care and sympathy for Leya! She turned out to be a super unsympathic character to follow.

I'm super disappointed as I wanted a strong female character but got a power tripping, egoistical and off putting woman in the end.

I remake of Edge of tomorrow?
12 December 2021
This movie felt like a remake, a bad remake I mind you, of Tom Cruises Edge of tomorrow (2014). If you want an action movie with mindless plot and action, The tomorrow war was it.

One of the most boring series ever
3 December 2021
Don't believe the high rates, I don't know whats up with those but this series really does not deserve any rates above 2 stars. Its meaningless and empty, the whole series are just a big whole anticlimax. Not worth a second of your life, trust me.

Athmospheric and Benedict is awesome
3 December 2021
But it feels out of sync somehow, the "flow" of the movie when it transitions between different "periods" feels out of touch, this movie would have been much beter in the hands of a movie studio rather then Netflix imho. Benedict was brilliant and in the end he (and Dunst) was the only one I felt for and rooted for.

Beautiful photages
2 December 2021
The views and sceneries are beutifully filmed. The dedication these camerewoman and cameramen show is amazing.

Its nice to follow these animals for whole episodes, although the story telling-editing could have been better. The tiger for example, was filmed for 2 years? I don't find the editing and cutting of the episodes did made that justice.

One thing I really did not expect nor like was the photages of the killings and feasting on bloody animals. I have always found BBC,s nature documentaries pleasant because they keep the bloody things to a minimal, but these series made my stomach turn in several occasions.

Maybe its the style of these series? Or maybe some people complained there was not enough blood? Who knows. I'm for one watching nature documentaries to get away from the photages of bloody violence humans create in the world, watching animals killing animals is not very comforting but each to their own I guess.

I have not read the books but the show is crap
30 October 2021
I did not know what to expect but this was worse then a C movie even. Netflix is almost never capeble of creating something above 6 stars. I don't know what wrong with them but something is seriously lacking.

Freida Pinto can't act in this
22 September 2021
I'm not sure if its the actresses fault (I have only seen her in Slumdog millionare) or if its the director who could not work out the best of Pinto but the result is, Pinto can't act at all, the other female character acted waay better then Pinto. Oh yes also, the story is trash. Its like a B-movie but with nice aesthetics. I watched it only for Logan but even he could not save this movie.

Don't believe the hyped reviews
18 September 2021
Seems like the whole production team of this show has been real busy giving themselves high rates and reviews. Don't believe it, this show was immensely weird and also very offensive, whomever wrote and directed this, seems to me to be a islamaphobe as hijabies are portraited as idiots. No scratch that, every character in this show is portraited as idiots. The cinematic photage was the only plus with this show.

Less emotional exploitation but still cringy
11 September 2021
Why Netflix?! Why do you keep insisting on bleeding money (or throwing money) on shows or people that are just not worth the money?

Not much changed with Kondo since her last show. She is still very unrelatable and aloof in a way. Atleast we did not have to see as much of emotional explotation as in her first show, with overwhelmed crying clients the opposite of spaking any joy. But if you wanna learn about how to tidy up like Kondo, just watch some old videos on youtube where you can find how to fold your clothes like Kondo, and that will be all enough. No need for these shows Netflix is putting up.

On this show I was struck by how cringy Marie Kondo is when she is imposing her religion of shinto. In every episode the clients sits down to thank inanimated objects, their house, clothes etc. Kondo even imposes this on church people, in church! Even if the church people were ok with it, it just shows how Kondo is so non-intune with people around her. I would even call it disrespectful.

Too much focus on the narrators
16 August 2021
The photage is fantastic, but I could not stand even more then 10 minutes of the program, because of all the narrators. The photage jumps so much between photages of mushrooms and talking people, that are clearly super excited about telling everything they know about fungi. Its just not relaxing and it becomes very irritating, to the point I had to end it after 10 minutes. If you are doing a nature documentary about plants, fungi or animals,, you don't need that much focus on humans. Just give us the photages of the fungi and a voiceover giving us information. So sorry but, no, this format was bad.

Rushed
29 July 2021
Skipping all build ups and a proper introduction to these types of fantasy world tv-shows, seems to be the new norm.

Netflix does it and now others does it too. It shows promise but its such a wham bam in the begiining one feels 0 interest instead of excitement for this "new world. I felt 0 invested and connection with the characters because its so rushed.

Shadow and Bone (2021–2023)

Very rushed and mediocre
22 June 2021
Netflix series are a 5 imdb rates at best and this one was less then 5. As always its rushed instead of taking its time with the introductions and build ups. One other disturbing thing is that all the characters have russisan sounding names, but they are played by britts. Even their jokes and dynamics are just brittish. Its so confusing. The names are russian, the costumes seems russian, but the actors are all britts. How hard could it be to find russian actors speaking english?

The main characters does not get enough in depth screen time and as audiences we lose interest in the characters because there is no "development". Its as if all these netflix series are directed and shot by people new to the film industry all together. There are a few exceptions; Sabrina, The Santa clarity diet and.. well thats it, two well made netflix series and all the rest are like this Shadow and bone, mediocre and rushed.

Better then nothing
26 April 2021
This felt more like a fluff piece, but its better then nothing. Beautiful photage as always and the background music score was kept a bit more subtle and not (blasting and over the top as in the latest planet earth series) so we could enjoy the photage in peace.

Netflix manages to mess up every project
11 April 2021
EVen if Melissa McCarthys humore is not for everyone I find her super adoreable and quirky in a charming way. Bateman is always great. But this movie is too rushed and bland.

I'm no film expert but it seems every project netflix touches they always mess up for example, the intro. Tv-shows, movies, there is never enough lay down in the intro scenes. Its very noticeable in for example; The letter for the king, Shadowhunters. Cursed etc. Its just too shallow.

The only exceptions I have seen myself are, Santa clarity diet, Better call Saul, The OA, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and maybe a few more. And zero movies made by Netflix ever turn out to be good, its just sad when they have so much resources but still ends up messing it up.

Yes Day (2021)
Boring
24 March 2021
Garners and Ramirez talents are really wasted on this movie. Spoiled bratt kids whom have every comfort in life plus unconditional love of their parents, but yet, its not enough. I had to stop watching after half the movie because I could not stop thinking about less fortunate children who would do anything to have half of what these kids have.

I wish it atleast was fun to watch like the movie "Alexander and the no good very bad day", but this one was plain boring from start to end.

Excitng and well written medical drama show!
3 March 2021
Ryan Eggold is amazing in his role. Its so exciting seing him on full charge focused on changing a broken system. His every win makes me as happy as if was real life wins. I have learned so much about Americas medical care system and the huge problems it has thanks to this show! (I'm european living in Europe). Ryan as doctor Max and Dr Vijay are my favourites. Its also awesome to see the psychology department and the very interesting patients and cases at that department. The "personal" problems and dramas can sometimes be less interesting but its so we can feel connected and invested in the characters and its no where near the soap aka greys anatomy so its all good.

Very uncomfortable. Lolita vibes
25 February 2021
Zendaya may have been 23-24 years old while shooting this movie but she still looks very young, like a teenager, at best. She was not a good cast for this role as it was very uncomfy and distracting watching someone looking like a teenager being intimate with a 40 year old looking man. Lolita vibes. I guess Zendaya wanted to be taken more seriously and get more "adult" roles. Its her choise of course.

Oversimplifying the issues and huge process gaps
24 February 2021
Appearently, "dopamine" is the solution to correct a very fearfull-aggressive dog. Sounds simple? Yes dogs are simple but if you came to watch how to be a pack leader and how to correct unwanted behavior in dogs you came to the wrong place.

I could not watch after the first episode ended, where we meet a fearful pitbul who bites people. So much was lacking. First we meet the dog that gets so wound up she nips her owner, in his face! Why? Because he is literally arousing her and rewarding her by playing "tug of war" literally when she is in a very agitated state of mind where she seconds ago was misbehaving with the stranger in her home. Also the owner is smoothering this dog with hugs and strokes while she is on red zone! You don't have to had watched Cesar Millan to know this is the worse thing you can do. To "reward" the dog while its in panic moode. No wonder she bites or nips people and her own owner. The dogs has no structure or limitations and her fearfull state is being rewarded.

The "methods" this canine trainer uses, well first of all, we the viewers are not allowed to see the process, just bits and parts of it. There are huge gaps!

First we have scenes where the trainer visits the dog to evaluate her and next thing we see is the trainer running an agility course with this dog. How did that happen? How did this person even win the dogs trust? How did he correct her behavior? How did he train the owner in how to show leadership with his dog?! There is nothing useful here, nada.

Say and think what you want about for example Cesar Millan (who actually was under huge pressure during filming his first show for natgeo), atleast he showed us his whole process truthfully with no gaps and no lies. How to rehabilitate a dog and how to train its humans. How to stop applying child psychology on a canine etc.

So yes I'm disappointed in "canine intervention" because we are not learning much about the process. Its fearful aggressive dog+dopamine (agility course)=finishline. With dog rehabilitated just by running agility courses. Its not the whole picture and its not truthful.

Nolan has lost his edge
21 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It pains me to write this as Nolan is my all time favourite director of my favourite movies; His Batman triology. We know by now that Nolan likes to keep the tempo fast and fluid, that he with Hans Zimmer has an awesome soundtrack and also unfortunately the dialogues in his movies are not the best. But it does not matter. In Tenet though, it did matter.

The dialogues are very bad. The script is not strong. The worse thing for me was how the characters fell flat. Many of the scenes are so improbable, the way lead female for example, opens up about her life to a total stranger in just about 1 minute of dining with him. Or the scene where the lead character meets the female scientist and both are as cold as robots while she demonstrates something out of this world that would make anyone freak out.

In fact, this whole movie seems devoid of all emotions. There is only one emotion though; The hunger the lead female character carries around, her hunger to kill her tormentor, and her feeling of being poweless and in despair and weak because, she is a mother ad has to protect her child. (I have watched my fair amount of time paradox movies ,mostly indie movies so I did not struggle on that aspect of the movie).

I don't know what is happening to Nolan, but since his movies Batman Begins and The dark knight, he seems to slowly have lost his touch. I just hope he will find his way back, and also let someone else work on the dialogues in his scripts.

Gut wrenching and intense
23 January 2021
I'm used to violence on screen so I have become somwhat numb to it understandably. School shooting scenarios with teenagers murdering their peers though, is on an other level for me.

I started watching this movie with no expectations but Isabel May turned out to be an awesome actress. There movie has real cinematic shoots and both Isabel and Eli Brown (the group leader of the killers) are great. Cyrus and Britton are very convincing aswell.

Yes maybe it was too in our face with Zoe having a hunter background (also I have a hard time with hunting animals for sport thing) . Maybe Tristan was way too charismatic as a teenage killer, and the last half part of the movie and the ending were a bit predictible, but it was intense and well done!

I don't have any hopes of this movie starting up debates in Usa about gun laws as over the past decades the world have witnessed so many school shootings and still nothing has changed in Usa about gun laws sadly and maybe, maybe this movie can show us small parts of how the victims of school shootings may have felt during gun point...

Beautiful images but the music scores gets on my nerves!
3 October 2020
One could never criticize a BBC planet earth documentary. The images and views are spectacular.

But the movie intrumental score, soundtrack or whatever to call it; Is getting on my nerves! Its too loud and takes away from the documetary experience. First of all, its underwhelming. Its boringly composed music. Also its Overwhelming. They put on this music to enhance our feeling. But its just disturbing the harmony. Whenever its an action scene, or a critical scene, or whenever its an "exciting scene" they have this stupid background music. Just be silent and let me enjoy the sceneries without bad music pounding in the background giving me headache.

I wan't a nature experience. I don't need this much music interfering on the background!

Loved it, though the quality of animations were not so great
24 September 2020
I really enjoyed this series even though I'm an adult. Although the script had a lot of logical issues and the quality of the animations was bad and lacking in many aspects. Yes we don't expect Dreamworks or Pixar quality animations, but this low level should not be acceptable either! Nit from a big company like Netflix. They surely could have given the animations design a lot more love. The sceneries, the dinosours, the lighting, the colours. It was lacking a lot on those departments

But, I loved the ride anyway! And the friendship theme is actually real good for children to look at and inspire from. Can't wait for season two! (hopefully with better animations quality).
