The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Worse than I expected
Listen... this has been said, but I didn't understand until I saw for myself, what a cash grab. This is not made for Mario fans. This is not a Mario story. This is made for two - six year olds to keep them occupied while the parents have a date night or something.
What an absolute waste of money and time.
The refusal of hiring voice actors is ridiculous. The stereotypical Brooklyn Mario brothers Italian family with disappointed father was just dumb.
The whole movie can be summed up as just dumb.
Jack Black couldn't even save this film. The hype is outrageous. Go see something better, like the back of your eyelids when you take a nap.
Disenchanted (2022)
Disenchanted improves on what Enchanted lacked... MAGIC
I went into this film not very excited. I remember as a child seeing Enchanted on Thanksgiving Day laughing my head off and being so thrilled at the climax of the film.
However, while rewatching it in recent months, the original hadn't withstood the test of time. It's still cute, but it's easy to pass on when so many other films are rewatchable.
Disenchanted however IS what I had hoped Enchanted would have been.
A Magical MUSICAL!
It is an ACTUAL MUSICAL and HOLY CRAP MORGAN HAS SOME PIPES!
Disney has this gift. From the first time I remember seeing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (maybe back in 1993 when I was three / four) Disney ha always been able to pull at my heartstrings.
This is just such a fun family film. The dynamics between Mother and Daughter...or Stepmother and Stepdaughter was excited so well. I'm sad this didn't get a theatrical release, but I am so happy I can watch it over and over.
Also, Love Is Power... what a beautiful moment in the film!
The Bob's Burgers Movie (2022)
So much fun!
As a long time fan of the show, this movie was unreal! You don't have to be a fan of this show in order to appreciate or enjoy it at all. The three musical numbers were so joyful, the story was nothing but fun, and the daily element really makes an enjoyable time out at the theater.
The Exorcism of God (2021)
Genuinely Horrifying
Okay, this film hit theaters here in the USA on March 11th but it didn't have a wide distribution. To be quite honest, the only explanation I have for these poor reviews is that the material is wildly offensive if you happen to be religious... especially of Catholic faith.
It's a genuine indie horror flick and it absolutely has the feel of it, but the low budget does not affect the world or the visuals that this film delivers.
The cast is incredibly connected and this is one of the rare times I've been GENUINELY Horrified while watching a film! The set up of this story is simple enough, but with a run time of barely over 90 minutes, the amount of twists - turns... and absolute delusion are beyond anything I was prepared for!
If you can see this in a movie theater I recommend it for the scares alone, but if you are like many of us who love to stream films at home when they're available, this should be at the top of your list.
Cinderella (2021)
A Magical Disaster
No one could have saved this film at all. What a terrible jukebox musical that no one asked for.
