Dope Sick Love (2005)
Review is both a 10 and sadly a 1.
Watching over this films again I have to give it a 5, but not because it is mediocre but because those rating it much lower have a point. It is raw and shocking in showing the truth behind drug addiction. I only hope it resonates with anyone out there thinking about using drugs. A 10 for showing the truth behind drug use and addiction.
However, one has to wonder if it would be ok to offer a documentary on some other type of disease. How about showing a graphic documentary of AIDS, or better yet a disease that has no social stigma behind it, one that people are less likely to blame the victim. How about following people in a dementia unit. People striped of their humanity as their mind decay. Would it be ok to watch someone acting crazy, soiling themselves, screaming and yelling at staff? Of course not, but why is ok to film people who have the disease of addiction? It is because society tends to view addicts as victims of their own moral failing. And for this I would give it a one for voyeurism and exploitation.
The Twilight Zone: He's Alive (1963)
Sadly a prescient episode.
Serling was genius ahead of his time. I have loved the Twilight Zone series since I was a little boy rushing home from school to watch another rerun. However, this episode strikes me cold. The hate, the intolerance, the devotion to those who tell lies and push propaganda, it is sounding all too familiar.
I agree with the other reviews that note that one wouldn't have believed it plausible a few decades ago. But now, in this climate?
Same may offer a warning that "those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." The truth, as Friedrich Hagel pointed out is that "the only thing we learn from history, is that we don't learn from history." But then again, it can't happen again.... not here....
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Horrible movie
I endured for about 1/2 the film and just could not take anymore. Who wrote the screen play for this rubbish? Reasonable suspension of disbelief is relaxed with comic book adaptations but this film goes beyond what any thinking person over the age of 10 could possible find entertaining. How to get to a foreign country with no passport? Lets steal a plane, have advanced flight skills with no modern training, fly thousands of miles on one tank of gas, land with no one taking notice....oh, and lets make the plane invisible. A ten year old could write a better script.
I envision a conversation about the "plot" for this movie... lets add lots of CGI, mindless action, just invent anything to get from point A to B, and market the movie for a quick buck. Pathetic.
