Breaking the Girls (2012)
I liked it
I don't think there are any spoilers but checked it just in case. I found this by chance and I actually liked it. This is one of those movies where I could predict what's going to happen but yet was still surprised when it did. I thought there was some really great chemistry between Alex and Sara. Though anyone watching this just for gratuitous lesbian sex scenes may want to find something else. This isn't an action thriller. It's psychological which means it's going to be slower paced.
If there was anything thing that really threw me in this movie it was that when I saw Alex (Madeline Zima) I kept seeing little Grace from the Nanny haha, but after thirty minutes or so, I realized that she's now 30 and a great adult actress and wow can she play crazy. I recommend it. If for no other reason this is one of the rare films depicting lesbians that isn't the painful clichés and stereotypes we usually have to endure.
You Me Her (2016)
Unexpectedly Loved it
I saw the previews for this and had intended to skip. I don't personally by into the polyamory thing as I don't see anything but heartbreak ahead for someone. Still one night I was surfing and it was on and I was hooked. 1st of all, I knew the girl who played Izzy looked familiar but had no idea she was Chloe on Rookie Blue. I must say I love her much better in this.
As for the show itself, the writing is incredible. I find it light hearted, authentic and just wonderful. The acting is sublime and the chemistry between all of the characters, not just the three main characters, is better than just about any television show I've seen. Even the characters I want to kick in the teeth, (ex: Stalker Andy, Nosy Lori and her daughter) I love because they're so well written. And I won't lie, the chemistry between Emma and Izzy is magnetic, IMO there are way more feelings between Izzy and Emma than either woman with poor Jack.
This is not a 'sex' show. There are intimate scenes but it's not Game of Thrones. There's no naked people so if that's what people are looking for they will be disappointed. This is a story about unexpected desire I guess (I wouldn't call it love in this stage of the game) and following your heart and while I can't relate at all to the "three-way" idea, nor do I want to, I can relate to complicated feelings. Just enjoy this for what it is. A rather sweet story about relationships of all kinds.
A Perfect Vacation (2015)
I liked it
Personally I liked the movie. It was an interesting plot, one that has been done before but not enough to make it tired.
Unlike others, I thought it was well acted. Natalie Burn is excellent in the very rare roll of a woman who kicks @ss. I think she has the potential to do a lot more action roles, if more people would write lead action roles for women that is.
It did drag in spots and the music really didn't help with that but I find that to be true with a pretty much any movie or show set in a forest. All in all, I found it to be an entertaining movie for a lazy day.
Bandaged (2009)
Something unique and so different than the usual
I stumbled across this movie and I'm glad I did. First of all this is so incredibly different than the usual clichéd lesbian tripe spewing from filmmakers. It was dark with hints of hope for Lucille to finally find her happiness. I thought the chemistry and passion between Lucille and Joan was wonderful and believable though I had to speculate to myself that Joan was reading Lucille's poetry and that is what spurred her feelings for the injured girl, leading to the first kiss. Ingrid and Arthur were wonderfully creepy and so well acted.
I did have a few issues: I would have liked a little more exposition into the development of Joan's feelings for Lucille. Also, the music during the love scene was a peculiar choice, though as the scene ended I understood the choice. There was one scene with Joan and a cigarette, I'm still not sure what she was doing and quite honestly, I'm still not sure what happened at the end.
I will also admit there were bits during the intimate scenes I'm not sure what the director was going for but I'd wish she'd stuck with just plain ol' passionate kissing but still I didn't find it "porn-ish". I believe there was an intent behind each shot.
I also love that they made the effort to do this in English. (Personally I found the accents kind of hot. :-) ) Still I think if this had been spoken in German with English Subtitles may have captured more of the spirit of the film.
All in all, I found this to be a beautifully acted and directed movie. It is well worth paying $2.99 to rent on Amazon. Especially if you're tired of the same old, dying lesbian or lesbian realizes she's really straight crap we usually get.
