La trilogie marseillaise: Marius (2000)
Season 1, Episode 1

Shameful
2 April 2008
This Trilogy is a complete disgrace. Some people in France have absolutely no understanding of what should not be adapted. The Pagnol's original trilogy is one of the best trilogy of all time. He managed to capture moments of life in Marseille like no other and his dialogs are still so entertaining. What is the point of shooting these sequences again, with costumes and modern acting (nice way of saying that Roger Hanin is a joke in this film).

What strikes me is the fact that such a project could have been financed. This is dangerous because they are destroying a classic by leaving such mediocrity to the young ones.

I noticed that Nicolas Ribowski didn't do much after this trilogy. For the greater good. This is a director who thought he liked Pagnol, but in fact tried to stole his notoriety and failed miserably in doing so.

Warning: Spoilers
Amazing cast and atmosphere. Great scary build up and nice open ending (which will make you think for a while...maybe the reason why some people didn't like it) I actually understand the people who gave a bad review. They belong to a secret brotherhood that wants to keep excellent films away from the rest of the world. I would like to do the same, but I could just not lie on this one. ;o)

To answer someone who asked about the location, it was shot partly in New Zealand. I went to the place only because of this film and was quite amazed by what you got on screen in the end.

Also, a quick note about the Korean DVD: perfect piece of work containing info and perpetuating (English word?) the mystery.
