Into the Dark: The Body (2018)
Not what I expected, but not at all disappointed!
When I heard about this series and saw it was from a company that for the most part I really enjoy their horror stuffs, I was excited. I started watching the film and really quickly realized it wasn't really a horror flick quickly, but stuck around to see it thru the end. I was very glad I did. It was entertaining, witty and most of all I was able to watch it with my youngest who loves horror but at the same time they cant watch most of whats out there for the simple fact that I get worried as to what all will pop out at the screen next. the running gag that drove the plot was probably the best part of it all with a really nice twist at the end. the characters as a whole where very entertaining seeing them all deal with things in very different ways helping with the drama part of the film. The amount of gore or effects used weren't over done or so strung out that they took away from the film, but like I said not really a horror type film so don't expect too much. there where one or two scenes where you could tell the dummy used for the body well, I wont spoil it so just see it already and enjoy!
Circus of the Dead (2014)
Clowntastic!!!
We have to say that this was a film to watch by yourself or with other people with the same morbid curiosity as we did. modern grindhouse film with scenes that will offend more than a few. The story did start off a bit slow, but once we got rolling it was pretty much non stop. We wished it would have developed the family dynamics just a bit more so when time came you would definitely feel more for the primary character. We do love the crazy, demented and psychosis of the main antagonist and an does he put the cringe in the back of your neck. There were one or two parts where the music was cut off or didn't mesh well, but not enough to make it a point to take you completely out of the film. the attention to detail on set design and small details like costumes make it a real treat! Overall a really gritty, dark and well made film and worth a watch a few times. Looking forward to see if they make a second part.
Fighting with My Family (2019)
Family, wrestling and a determination made true
Went into the film with some reserve since it has been a while that a really good film about the sport has been made, the last being The Wrestler. So right out the back I was expecting a different level of film. What I got was something completely fun and entertaining, with a lot of really touching moments and of course enough wrestling sprinkled on throughout the film to at least satisfy the name sake.
If you are a wrestling fan and know who the film is about then this was a treat to actually get some theatrical truish biopic of the wrestler. if you don't know who she is, but love wrestling then you will still get a really good story about the struggles she goes thru to make it into the top. Now for those of you who don't really follow wrestling or know who the film is about, i can say you will like this film for its dramatic use and over all coming of age/transformation story that highlights the female struggle in a male driven industry.
Either way this is a really good story and its well done, a lot of exciting part that will drive you to the edge of your seat unless your a stump, and over all just done right.
Mandao of the Dead (2018)
Waiting for the sequel
We loved reviewing this film. The film's consept was unique and the production value was on point. Lots of practical use of lighting and camera shots. Everything about the story telling was well done from shot selection to editing. Both practical effects as well as visual didn't take you out of the story at any point. Acting was also tight and very believable from the characters. For the budget this film was shot for they did extreemly well, we would love to see the next part hopefully if they decide to shoot it since they included a bit of a cliff hanger which played a little off back to the future. Really good movie after all and really worth the watch.
Into the Dark: New Year, New You (2018)
Didn't live up to the hipe or did it?
Everything about it I was on board for, all female cast, female director, female driven horror, but in the end was a boring 30 some odd minutes of watching females do what females do before something happend. But even then the pay off was still not worth the time spent watching a very boring phyclological horror or attempt at one. The twist at the end was very lame to say the least and over all very typical and not what I expected. So much lost potential.
12 Kilometers (2016)
Cold, Dark and Suspenseful
As I sat there and the film began I was automatically drawn in by it's opening shot of these gorgeous rolling icy mountains, with the even more eerie sound track driving you further into the story and the world of 12K. From then on you feel like you are in it until the very last frame.
Everything about the film was extremely well put together, from the actors, the special effects which not only where very cool to see, but where very original. They crafted the effects to be real and very believable, not one time over the top cheese like most horror type films tend to.
As an audio guy though, I do have to say that the sound effects and mixing of the film's soundtrack was on point. He never used the typical jump scare tactics to get a rise out nor the ear busting gags to scare ya. Instead he used perfect timing and layers of sounds to surround you with emotions and subtle foreshadowing.
Overall I enjoyed the film thru and thru.
