The Wizard (1989)
The Wizard Gets a 10.
Some people write about the youngest kid who played the wizard as being blind and deaf. But, those people are confuzzled. the boy is a kid gone quadropolegic. It means, he can talk - but he chooses not too. there is a back story and I am about to tell it so spoiler alert although no scenes were shown, he lost his twin sister. Some twins born in the same womb share communication with them before OTHERS. And for them before they adjust to talking to other people, losing there twin is like losing an arm. And for some one does the talking while the other DOESN'T. Well, this is the case of the Wizard. He had lost his twin in an swimming accident, and he has a relentless goal to reach California, his older brother decides to help him achieve that. Along the way, they find a friend who persuades them to Enter a video competition for $50,000 after discovering his video game talent. However they face many difficulties crossing Utah and Nevada to reach the gaming competition in Rheno.
The Breakfast Club (1985)
This movie doesn't deserve a star
Granted I grew up in the 1990's largely apposed to the 1980's. But, I can surely say this movie doesn't rate it all. I agree is colorful, but this movie doesn't even add up to the life. It doesn't explain it all and how high school works. The story line is flirty with emotions, but so 2 dimensional.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989)
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
Been meaning to REWATCH for years. The last time I probably watched this was BEFORE 1995. But, I stumbled upon it last weekend. Yep. Someone dumped there VHS's at the curb. 3 boxes. Had to go threw every last one of them for a look to see if I could find it. I had already found its spin off Honey, I blew up the Kid. Yep, its the sequel, but its not listed as a II, so you must absolutelly know its the spin off name unless you just see it and know of the first you might figure it out. But, I was pleased to find it in one of the boxes. the copy was in perfect condition, and played much better on my HD VCR. the orginal VCR's back in the day, just didn't frame right threw the movie so you would miss stuff. Of course, I am using a Telivision with FRAME right issues sometimes...but I still caught 99.9%. It was a FLASH scene of light that did it. Its a model with a different light projector which didn't function 100%. Its one of the models well, they were trying to invent HD TV's. Anyway, so what was the point? The movie not the TV. Right. Sorry, I am kinda like the TV Dad, I tear in different directions trying to solve a number of problems or getting tied up in 1. Its a cross. Anyway, the movie and not me...right. I loved watching this movie...again. It took me back to my childhood. Gosh. It took me a few reviews, but someone did review it as a retrospective, but they fell into the drama of the comedy of Steven Speilberg. They...um mentioned...they mourned the death of...the ant. Enough said. Its comedy, and shoot, this comedy is much better. I love nothing more than finding these movies. Anyway, the movie? Who can say a word against it. its full of action, and its slap stick comedy. Join the adventures of household of two kids trying to journey back threw there unkempt backyard as the adults realize there kids and neighbors kids are MISSING and its because "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" so now there making mistakes in trying to search for them.
Return from Witch Mountain (1978)
GREAT SECOND MOVIE
Often spin off movies don't fallow up with the original or exceed it. But, this one does. The kids who made it home in the prior movie "Escape to Witch Mountain" travel to a city to stay in a hotel for recreation find themselves being found out by a mad scientist who has realized the ability to control the mind kidnap the older male sibling Tony. This time its up to Tia played by Kim Richards too find away to free him with a bit of help. The movie pits the abilities which are REVERSE of another against one another. The movie is shear popcorn, but its the point. The danger turns serous when the ability to upset the control of a Nuclear Power Plant comes into play.
Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)
A GREAT FILM
Everyone either seems to be here to REVIEW the idea on how to make a review of a movie, and not talking about the positive or versus negative remarks or reviewing it badly, because the movie didn't do what they expected. Anyway, the movie gives a rich set of characters - 2 kids who have been placed in a displacement physicality do to losing adoptive parents. The movie from the beginning DOES have effects for which the other reviewers do not acknowledge as the movie is about 2 kids with mystical abilities who do not quite understand what they can do. They create a person willing to exploit there interests for a boss who are looking for such mystical abilities when they share with him the knolledge to save his life and so his boss decides he should assume the responsibility of an fictional uncle to gain legal control as in internent custody of the children. They escape and meet an elderly widower who is living in an 1970's RV camper when they hide in it for free passage having found an map hidden in an object they call a Star Case. Anyway, the widower is a lonely man, and the 2 children are on the run. and the men living in an mansion want the power to find oil and oversee the future. The children do not WANT to use there power, and therefor an allyship is formed. But the truth is a movie like this HAS to end with getting rid of them. They ultimently had to PROVE they could get away from them. I'm not sure what the BAD reviewers were looking for to happen, but the movie has GOOD characters who are NOT cheesy, the bad-guys have a reason, and the heroins are against them and giving there powers to him for improper higher gain. I mean he wants to take them to a race track so he can learn the winner of a horse BEFORE it wins so he can win. Anyway, the do round out the ending, and I kind of think the reviewers didn't like the action sequence of getting rid of the bad men, so they didn't see the ending after the chase. I did put some spoilers in here, but didn't describe it all. But, the effects are grand, but its rich. I grew up in the 1990's and found myself watching older movies, and family flicks as an adult are still fun. Most comedy as adults involve drinking, gambling, and often stupid humor. Those who appreciate this one should watch the second movie - Return to Witch Mountain. Both kids return in this one, the one charachter returning there uncle, was recast-ed although like the FIRST movie he only was there for starting and ending sequence. But, its a blast.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
Buffy The Vampire Slayer "The Cast and Crew is awesome - No matter What"
I see fewer of the reviews are recent, and those who do are against the year the show was released which was 1997. Or some think its 1999. They are confused because it is the year that Buffy graduated from HS as in High School, meaning the Character and the actress. I have decided to post a review sharing the plights of the show, and its direction. LOL, the 1990's has plenty of good shows, who knows maybe those viewers are checking out the wrong ones. Buffy is a show which was meant to run for a 12 episode season segment that got signed as a contract and re-upped to run for 7 seasons. However, despite the shows ultimate success, a decision to CUT it was made toward the end of the 5th season and the creator Joss, untimely made a decision to kill off Buffy not knowing if he could continue to MAKE episodes or have them made. He had a vision of a female harion saving the day. He got re-upped but the show was moved to a new Network, UPN and Buffy was brought back to "life." Anyway a disagreement unfolded or something to the tune and Marti Noxon whom Joss brought on for some of the Drama work in Season 1 for "Whats my Line? P1 and 2 who stayed, elivated. A good episode, but she had a ultimatum goal which was pretty upsetting. The goal finally released in season 3 of teenager dosed with a GREEN chemical who beats on his girl-friend was a plot tolerable for a episode. It brings out the ideals one sex hurting another. But, the twisted plot continued on and off at times especially after she took over. The rest of the cast and crew especially trying to hard to bring the activity of a closing blow out pushed very hard was super seceded by Marti Noxon who had the rest of the cast to HAVE a full blown fall-out with the STAR 3 episodes to the finale. Joss Whedon who wished to even it out properly with an 8th season, was vetoed, did set the FINALE to episodes. Anyway, its why there is some misdirection in the show. He picked a woman of an inescapable BAD emotion set to HELP with an aspect of the series, who performed it upon the shows creator. He however did realize some true emotion himself, and its proper mourning and greiving into application where Marti Noxon disagreed with. See, as to her 3rd season episode an application of unjust love he created "The Body" which is an episode of slow of the grieving and caring for a lost loved one, and creating proper loss and an sense of completion. Another sense of LOSS was created in the sixth season with the loss of a Willows girlfriend creates havoc. Seems to be she was trying to send a message caring can only move toward pain and anger. Anyway, hopefully...er this isn't true. But, just know Buffy the Vampire slayer with a salt and grain DOES have a lot of good episodes and hopefully many of the cast...don't feel the ideals. Anyway, breaking up the TEAM 3 episodes to the FINALE to create a SPACE of pain is NOT a ALL TIME HIGH standing point to complete the series with.
The Safety of Objects (2001)
SAFETY OF OBJECTS "An Neighborhood of messed up people"
This movie is watched by a number of people and I kind of notice that A lot of people miss one thing or another. There is HARDLY one charachter from besides the BUS lady who isn't messed up. But its kind of the point isn't it? From the two kids experimenting with smoking or another who has sexual fantasy with a doll, or a woman who believes in her brain dead son has active feelings who is named paul, or the woman living next door who's husband left her who has taken up with a short romantic relationship with the neighbors 17-year-old son prior to suffering the accident which put him into a coma, or a man bent on work who doesn't make his partnership who suffers a break down, the characters try to solve there issues threw there stuff and escape. A one hell of a peace of design of artwork. Anyway, each scene brings some clue to a realization, and they move onto another EVENT and consequences therefor the viewer misses a part of the story line. This is a mans point of view watching it, anyway. This was the first ever DVD I ever bought for a movie. Still have the copy. The idea of an movie such as this nature struck me as a bit strange, but it seemed like a good movie so I bought a copy having only seen a preview. Anyway, a very true story line and I appreciate the idea for this movie. I kind of think some of the other movies created even though this movie isn't remembered well, were trying to live up to this movie. In the 1990's comedy was higher, but just after 2000 it started to edge off. And I can think mainly drama started with the basis of this movie inspired other movies to come after. The one thing is they altered is that the people need to have a better natured goals or have the main ones even if things mess up a bit strangely. As the movie goes on and a viewer watches one realizes this was the main issue. The woman isn't looking for her missing cross bi-gendered son because she is too busy enjoying fighting with her X-husband as a solution. The woman with her son in a coma well...doesn't seek help for an answer and makes a very bad choice independently. 2 family members share joy in the event. True, the comatized son wasn't going to get better, but its just not a good idea to perform this at home on your own.... The man who didn't get a promotion ends up making a mistake with probable legal consequences at the mall. Not to be fooled by the humor he is a lawyer in the progression. A woman who is ruled by her husband of a marriage decides to start a relationship at a Bar. A grieving young adult who has lost his little brother and his freind Paul in the car crash attempts to replace him and kidnaps another kid who looks like him. So, this movie I think reflected a change in style for drama based movies as well as create an ideal that 1 or 2 while you can have 1 or 2 people messed up, you shouldn't have all of the characters messed up in ALL movies. Still...you got to appreciate the movie a bit.
Free Willy: Escape from Pirate's Cove (2010)
The Movie
I bought the movie in a set of pack of 4 with the first 3 intending to relive a peace of the 90's. Now certain aspects of the movie are right, and the idea is sort of there. the plot could have been developed a bit more. But I have a feeling this movie was intended to drag in the interest of a new generation of kids to get there interest going. Today, the kids are all watching computerized cartoons, and the idea, I think is to drum up the sales and to teach kids a interest of it, so they wont mind watching the older movies from the 90's which are much better. Oh yes, the actors and actresses did a good job for what they had to work with. A whale that washes into a cove is a whale that's stuck. Can't go nowhere and a man wants it. Family movies to obvious? Depends on which ones you watch. Are the 90's in this movie? Nope. The 90's are done. If you wanna go back to the 90's where you grew up, my advice is to get movies you might have watched growing up: Home Alone & H.A. 2, Free Willy 1; 2; 3. LOL. Kids today are NOT 90's kids and wont be. Or even those darn kid movies u watched as a kid. LOL, even if they were kids. As for the above movie, use it to get your kids interested in the originals. :)
