The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
Literally, a trip to space.
The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy was recommended by a friend who's a physics student and I had absolutely no idea what to expect. After watching the film, I searched about it and there turned out to be a TV series and a book linked to the story so obviously I'm not a fan of the past work but I sure did love this movie! It's witty, creative, and adorable. I was amazed by the visuals and the actors perfected the scenes especially Sam Rockwell (Zaphod). The narrator's voice in the background is definitely a clever touch. It is the kind of film where you would question your existence as the closing credits screen rolls. Overall, it's an incredible one and definitely a must-watch!
Kumaré (2011)
Extraordinary
Kumare is an extraordinary documentary. Vichram Ghandi (Kumare) has done such a great job directing as well as being the main character of this film. The questions that are being discussed in the documentary might have passed your thoughts before. Most people search for guidance in spiritual connections between them and God and the closest thing to that is a guru. Now I'm not sure if it's staged or not but Vichram is a genius for being able to handle such character. Each one of us has been in that phase of questioning our faith and I think it's important to watch documentaries that discuss such topics to reduce that sense of negligence in ourselves.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
A film with nostalgic vibes
The Grand Budapest Hotel. I didn't know what I would expect when I saw the trailer for the first time. Wes Anderson, the director of this movie, has done such a brilliant job creating this masterpiece. Every scene seemed to be perfect and well-thought according to my aspect, Robert Yeoman (cinematographer) is very clever for creating scenes with aesthetically pleasing colors and angles to attract the person watching, the vibe of the movie is what made me most excited to watch it. The plot is fun, exciting, and funny. Not a movie that you'd find yourself yawning half-way. Zero (Tony Revolori) is the new lobby boy that finds himself on an unusual adventure with M. Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) his manager.
Stoker (2013)
Perfect thriller
This movie has left me mesmerized that I had to watch twice more. It absolutely shocked me after I knew that Wentworth Miller wrote it. The directing and filming of the movie were both unique and aesthetically pleasing. What I liked most about it was the unpredictable plot. India Stoker is a girl with a strong hearing gift. Her uncle Charlie who she never knew about came to live at their house after the death of her father. I wouldn't recommend watching it with someone or with a group just because it's a movie that requires your focus and concentration or you're gonna miss it big time. It's somewhat funny that the whole movie was like a plot twist. Definitely a must-watch!
Living on One Dollar (2013)
A heartwarming piece
Poverty has been a big issue since humanity has started. Four young college students go to Guatemala city over the summer to get the experience of living on one dollar each day. The documentary discusses how families fight for survival. Different locals are interviewed from all ages to talk about how they manage to live or make money under tough conditions. Many heartwarming and tragic stories were told. Living On One Dollar is suitable for every person that wants to learn something new and get motivated to help those in need. The families were so welcoming and kind to the students even though they didn't have much to offer. The world would be a much better place if everyone started loving and respecting each other. Overall, the documentary is inspiring, eye-opening, and pure.
Nightcrawler (2014)
One of the best
Nightcrawler is one of the best movies I've seen. It talks about how individuals in society could be full of greed and rapacity. Jake Gyllenhaal did such a great job as the character Lou Bloom. He was just the perfect fit for it. If I have read the script without knowing who the actors were, I'd definitely imagine Jake playing the role cause he's always playing those weird/creepy characters in his movies. It was that perfect! The movie is unique and quite unpredictable, so that's what made it so interesting. I haven't ever thought about how news are delivered only after watching this movie. The shooting techniques of Nightcrawler were incredible and pleasing. Definitely recommended, very eye-opening & insightful!
