Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
Tragicomedy with bittersweet tone
It is one of the best examples of Tragicomedy. Even though the genre of the movie is comedy-drama, it has a very bittersweet tone. It feels unbearable as soon as it starts, and both the characters and the interaction between them are also unbearable. It can be difficult to get past that first stage, but as it progress, the film opens up. The events that happen to the characters break their concrete thought patterns and this leads them to become more attached to each other. Their own breaking points come when they confront the fact that they are wrong. The more they confront themselves, the more they become "real" characters. The movie, which starts off as unbearable, ends in a heartfelt way. Sometimes it is necessary to push life, then to chase it and jump into it, only with this way can we truly enjoy the life.
8- Very Good.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Tried to imitate but failed really hard
Seriously, how did Netflix make Cowboy Bebop so terrible?
I also watched and compared the original anime episodes they imitated. It seems like they made this show with the reason: "There's this thing called Cowboy Bebop, everybody talks a lot, the dubbed version we made in America is still in business, why don't we buy the IP of it and make money on it?".
One of the biggest features of anime was animation visuals and fluidity in animation. They turned this into like a Syfy series and that visuals and fluidity disappeared. Especially when you compare the Church scene, when he is trying to go upstairs, the weaknesses in this subject is very noticeable. In the anime he is trying to go with a vengeance and greed, in the Netflix series it was like "do not tire yourself too much, point the gun, we will die anyway".
Anime's other biggest feature was the storytelling and the relations between the characters.
Spike isn't bad, but the light hearted vibe is gone and he felt too old and serious for the role.
They turned Faye into a very "Netflix-esque" character.
Vicious is a man-child villain, he doesn't have a tenth of his anime charisma and intimidation.
Julia was really butchered, they changed her from a Femme Fatale character to a pop-lipped Tik-Tok influencer.
Only Jet Black was successful, and his voice was very similar to the Japanese voiceover from the anime. But they smashed his story at the last minute.
While watching the anime, the music really adds a different flavor to the anime, as if the songs are characters themselves. They tried to imitate the same songs, but they couldn't keep the atmosphere and tone of the anime, and it cause the music remain weak in the background.
That jazz/blues mood in the anime is gone, and ignoring the subtext of the stories was a major factor.
It's like they watched the anime episodes skipping and then shot the Netflix series with what they remembered.
They ignored the important details, background designs, ideas behind the stories and made their own imitations over it.
Ok, I didn't expect to see the exact same show with exactly the same quality. But I expected them to carry the "atmosphere" or "tone" of the anime. Instead, they repeated the same mistake made in the Ghost in the Shell movie adaptation. They tried to carbon copy the same story, the same visuals, the same events, while not understanding why and what the original source intended with those story, visuals, events. And this made the adaptation fail really hard.
Predators (2010)
A Great movie especially if you are a long time Predator fan.
This movie supposed to have at least 7.5/10 from IMDb. It was a wonderful film. The characters prepared interestingly but background-shadowed to add mystery to them. The visual effects gives us a 80s nostalgic feeling. Predators and story-twists makes us thrilled. Also most important, it has deep connections to Predator 1 as story-based and Predator 2 for the Predator community. I felt like watching Jurassic Park as a kid, and after the movie I got a excitement to quote every scene of the movie like the Jurassic Park. So, I think it prepared with a nostalgic style.
If you loved Predator 1 or 2, played Alien vs Predator 1-2 with Predator, bored from new age AvP movies and the game, so this is a perfect time for you. Go and watch it in the cinema.
The Last Airbender (2010)
Effects are cool but story is lost
The main problem of this movie is not time. You can exclude much thing from the original series but still make a good story. However this movie has more important problems. First is the actors. Many actors don't look like its character. May be Aang looks good, but definitely Iroh is not. Actors also don't act good. You can not see mimics and acting from them. Only empty and useless words. Story of the series is not converted well. Some scenes are skimmed very fast that you can not understand anything, and some scenes are unnecessarily long. I wish a skilled director remake this movie, but this version is just a mocking of the cartoon series.
Dünyayi Kurtaran Adam (1982)
One of the worst movie ever
Old Turkish movies are usually inelaborate and carelessly done. Because, most of the movies are mass production, directors were shooting many films at the same time. Their aim was huge income with tiny budget. A few film handled the story, scenes, actors and costumes with a high quality. But this is not that kind of movie. Story was meaningless, there were lots of thing at the same time without any logic, reason or explanation. Scenes were awful, they contained countless mistakes. Costumes and design were terrible, they looked like taken from a cheap market to imitate the Star Trek and Star Wars.
If you watch the movie you probably won't understand anything whether you know movie culture and Turkish perfectly. There is lots of stolen scenes from Star Trek and Star Wars, and usage of them is very weird. This movie produced for making an action/science fiction movie like Star Wars and Star Trek. But it can't even come close to those films. You will just see leaping men, exploding rocks and splitted heads.
It is strange this movie took 1,391 times 10 vote and achieved a median 10 points and weighted average 5.7 points. It doesn't deserves all of those 10 points. If you look at 5.7 points and think "hmm, it should be an average movie, i should watch this", please don't. It will just send you to edge of insanity, nothing more. So you may ask why all those 10 points. It is because of two things: 1) Turkish people are used to watch bad movies 2) the famous phrase "so bad it's good". The main aim of the movie may be action/science fiction, but it turned to "comedy/parody" for especially the Turkish teenagers. So, it may be the worst movie ever if we consider it as an action/science fiction A-movie, it may be best Turkish movie if we consider it as a comedy/parody Thrash movie.
However, it not better than Plan 9 From Outer Space movie. Don't think Dunyayi Kurtadan Adam had better production techniques, better actors, or better scenes than Plan 9 From Outer Space when seeing their ratings (3.5 vs 5.7). Because Dunyayi Kurtaran Adam deserves the "bottom 10 list" of IMDb, and this 5.7 rating just proves how faulty is the rating system of IMDb.
