R.L. Stine's The Haunting Hour: Really You: Part 1 (2010)
Is it the acting or the direction? ditto for Part 2
I understand that this is supposed to be a spooky series, but the idea of having a life sized doll instantly comes off very morbid. Bailee's acting or direction is very poor. The only skill that I see in acting is from Connor Price, who plays the brother. All the other actors seem like they were just brought in and in first rehearsal. Is it the direction? The over all plot should work, but the opening scene is terribly done. The Twilight Zone's Living Doll was a great story and was very well done.
A Girl of the Limberlost (1990)
A picture in time.
To me, it was a great movie that the whole family can sit and watch without being assaulted by Hollywood's warped morals and lack of decency. Why don't they make more movies like this? The mode of dress in that time and patterns were nice. The woodland scenes were beautiful. Ms Fairfield played an excellent role.
The Hoarder (2015)
Saw it. The film is called BUNKER -spoiler alert-
I viewed this film. BUT, it is called Bunker. Why would it be under a different name? Too many films named with word "bunker"? I found the film very slow, and seemingly done by a first time director, just getting his or her feet wet. The basic idea was OK, but not well directed. When the girlfriend was grabbed, the attacker was portrayed biting her neck, eating her, there was much blood. But later, the "animal" was revealed to have a stapled mouth. Just one of many mistakes.
Hollywood Safari (1997)
Good story line but...
I do not believe there is anything wrong with the plot. There is a good story here. In my opinion, it is a combination of bad acting and directing. A lot of of the bad acting is because of the bad directing. Granted it is most likely a very low budget movie, but the director should have had some sort of a grasp on directing a motion picture, or cared more about the film. There are a lot of animals in the picture (a good thing), which probably took more than a few wranglers, and maybe this is where most of the budget went.
One thing that really stands out in my mind is the scene where one moment the Hummer is a car length away from the van, and in then all of a sudden they are about five or more minutes away? And the animal control stuff at the jail was so played out that it brings to mind the old saying, "flogging a dead horse".
Scrooge (1951)
I like Spikeopath's review
This is my favorite Scrooge/A Christmas Carol movie of all. I believe that I have seen them all. Although I would never watch the colorized version of the same.
Why do they refuse to make great films like this anymore? I wish that there were Saturday matinees near me, so that I could see some of these bygone pictures up on the big screen! Imagine Alastair Sim on a massive theatre screen in the character of Ebenezer Scrooge! I think that people would flock to see this movie if it were offered today, this week. I would, more than once.
If you have the chance to see this movie, please do! Do not deprive yourself of a piece of motion picture history, perfection.
Blessings of Christmas to all.
