Road House (2024)
Retains the cheese and all of the fun!
I am a huge fan of the original and being a huge UFC fan, when I heard that Conor Mcgregor was to portray the antagonist alongside Jake as Dalton, I was super excited to see what Doug could do with this and I wasn't disappointed! Take this film for what it is, Trashy, Nonsensical voilence.. But an all round hugely entertaining film, with beautiful views of Florida Keys, fantastic acting, amazing fight scenes and just a good time! It's going to be a cult classic like its predecessor and it deserves to be. It's as funny as it is violent and retains the cheese of the original in all the right ways! Hats off to Conor McGregor in his first hollywood role, he plays a complete lunatic and plays it very well. This is pure entertainment! It might lack substance but so did the 1989 classic. I loved it! 8/10.
Muscle (2019)
Disappointed,.. In the bad reviews! This was brilliant!
Craig Fairbrass's best role to date! This film, shot in black and white throughout, Shows masculinity in every shape and form, pulling it off exquisitly! Acting is second to none for a low budget production. Every scene feels real and intense. You believe every character, every sordid act and conversation felt genuine. This is not a violent film, heavy on sex, graphic in certain scenes, so definitely not for anyone 15-. Intimidation and desperation play major roles in the gritty, exhausting intensity throughout the film, very much edge of your seat stuff. Not a happy or positive movie whatsoever but without a doubt a very satisfying watch! Fantastic! 8/10.
Oppenheimer (2023)
A travesty if Cillian doesn't get the Oscar! Phenomenal.
I've always been a fan of Christopher Nolan, I believe Batman Begins was my first introduction to his artistry when I was around thirteen. I've since gone and watched , and loved earlier creations such as Memento and the mind bending Inception. Not forgetting the outstanding 'The Prestige'.
Chris is one of the last of his kind, making masterpieces like Oppenheimer. Respected by all in film making for a reason. He only accepts the very best and chooses his stars wisely and creatively. Big actors/actresses work so unbelievably hard for Nolan because he is such a genius at work and won't accept anything but perfection. His love for storytelling is unfathomable. His persistence on absolutely no use of CGI is profoundly credible, never mind inspiring! This applies especially when it comes to the visuals in Oppenheimer. The visuals, captured beautifully in IMAX, along with the first ever Black and White IMAX footage in any feature, alongside a chilling and captivating score, Christopher Nolan nails it on every single level. Every one!
The acting by each actor is second to none. Cillian will win the Oscar for this! If it were to go to Barbies Margot Robbie, although great, would be nothing but a travesty.
A special mention to Robert Downy Jr who should surely win Best Supporting Actor, He was sublime whilst mainly unlikeable, the same said for Matt Damon eho played a fantastic disgruntled Army General.
Emily Blunt, portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer's wife was just fantastic, as Emily always is. There are judt literally far too many cast members to mention but all were absolutely phenomenal.
To sum it all up, This film tells the story of Oppenheimer, The man behind the team of which developed the first hydrogen atomic bomb. We see him progress from his University days to his golden years and this masterpiece depiction will go down in History as one of the best pictures that Cinema has ever seen. Truly remarkable.
Cillian and Christopher deserve the Gold.
World Class film making. I cannot wait to see it again.
11/10.
Scream VI (2023)
At this point, You think You'd know..
We all know and love Scream! Or why would you be reading this review?
Firstly, Nostalgia! It runs heavy in this and it's welcomed, rather than a Clichè.
Fabulous Plot! Wonderful acting! Apart from the odd dodgy blip from Detective Bailey..
Jenna Ortega was magnificent.
The whole leaves you on edge.. The chase scenes leave you feeling as desperate as the characters trying to evade/escape this version of GhostFace. Possibly the most sadistic ee've ever seen! I loved it. It has it's flaws and potholes but honestly, this is the best entry since the first in 1996.
Sydney wasn't really missed in this one and it's opened a new door for the franchise. Loved it! 9/10.
Snooker 19 (2019)
For Snooker Lovers!
This game is so much fun but is also equally frustrating. You will have to put some time in before you stand any chance of beating anyone ranked higher than 70. The table graphics and gameplay are superb! (However, The players don't look like they've been updated since the PS3/360 days) This takes nothing away from the gameplay unless you desire Fifa level facial detail etc..
This game will make you laugh, cry and make you want to throw the controller across the room, But I can assure you. You'll keep going back to it! This one is for true Snooker fans.
Start with Rokit Ronnie and take on anybody ranked 70+
Snooker 19 (PS4) 8/10.
The Black Phone (2021)
Not worth the hype.
I'd been looking forward to this for almost 18 months.. Huge dissappointment really. I was expecting something much scarier and a film with much more substance that what I got upon watching this in the Theater.
I won't spoil it because to be honest, there isn't much to spoil.
Such a great premise, executed far too safely to make this a memorable horror.
Story - 6/10
Acting - 8/10
Scares - 2/10
Overall - 6/10.
Malignant (2021)
James Wan killed this! Different but brilliant..
Without spoiling the plot of this film, (which could be difficult) This is an expertly directed Film Noir inspired Horror from James Wan. (The horror expert) in my opinion. Usually playing on the senses of the audience rather than rely on the sub standard jump scares that have become all too familiar in recent horror flops.
This is ultra-original in plot and execution combined! Twists and turns along the way, this is Never boring, never slow and absolutely violent as hell.. Tarantino esque.. Never on screen for more than a second but as visceral as it goes! Just brilliant. Very, very entertaining horror! 8/10*
Gogglebox (2013)
May it never end! Love it!
Me and my wife have been addicted to this since it began in 2013. We've lost some of our favourites such as the late Leon and June, whilst gaining more along the way such as hilarious Brother and Sister duo, Pete and Sophie. Lee and Jenny will always be our absolute favourites.
Easy to watch, warming and fun! What more could you want for an hour every Friday? Love it. May it never end.
No Time to Die (2021)
No Time To Die. So brilliant it hurts.
Daniel Craig has been magnificent as Bond! He's brought new life to this franchise and for me, stolen the show. From Casino Royale in 2006 to No Time To Die, he's been a breath of fresh air to this inconic role and he will be sorely missed. More than you know..
Giving nothing away about this film as that would be unfair to those who haven't been lucky enough to see this yet but let me tell you, It's got everything a Bond film needs along with a whole new element not seen in any previous installments of 007. Do not miss this!
Bond, James Bond.
Guns Akimbo (2019)
I don't understand the hate! 8/10*
I really don't understand the low review scores for Guns Akimbo! It doesn't pretend to be anything other than a 90 minute shoot em up that is highly entertaining to watch. It's unapologetically silly at times but it's really good fun from start to end. Radcliffe and Weaving were great! Instant cult classic.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)
Final destination with a book. Great Special FX though.
The special effect and monsters in this film are fantastically thought up and executed.. The rest sort of fell flat. This has all been done before, countless times. It's nothing new but it was still entertaining and worth a watch.
Acting 6/10
FX 9/10
Plot 4/10
Overall this gets a 6. It's fun. More aimed at teenagers though over anyone aged 25+
