Troy's long monologues, which are worth listening to in the original language to grasp the marked Afro-American cadence, are effective but demanding for the viewer, who requires an effort to fully appreciate a film with a clear theatrical setting, long lasting and total absence of dynamism. Excellent performance of Washington and Davis.

A theme already widely exploited but always captivating: getting satisfaction in extremis before our own announced death. The success of the film rests entirely on the skills of two great actors like Nicholson and Freeman, who, despite some banalities and the tone of a grotesque comedy, know how to convey an uplifting message of hymn to life and friendship.

Family reunification in the beautiful countryside of Borgogne, France, where the two brothers and the sister meed themselves in the old family house among the vaste vineyards. They have to deal with the past and plan the future, following the father's death. Not really a compelling plot, but a pleasant family comedy, where the passion for wine is celebrated with continous tastings. The settings are suggestive and the product is well-finished.

An original animated documentary, realized to remember and celebrate, fifty years after his death, the sad story of Giuseppe Pinelli ("Pino"), unjustly accused of the Milan - Piazza Fontana massacre and murdered by Police. Through the delicate voices of Olimpia Lanzo and Alessandra Pasi, the two daughters of Pino, Claudia and Silvia, relate the background story of their family, appropriately inserted in the broader framework of that dark years of the Italian history called "strategy of tension". A useful review of a sad page of recent italian history.

Painful decline of a star

No music and scenes from Lou Reed and Velvet Underground years, the movie is entirely dedicated to the last years of Nico's life, and in particular to her last and sad tour in Europe. Susanna Nicchiarelli portrays the former model and Andy Warhol's muse in her painful and problematic adult phase, which sees her tired and dissatisfied, desperate to break free from her drug and success past, when she was beautiful but not happy. A crude and bleak portrait, which Dyrholm renders fully convincing.

Christoph Waltz directs himself to describe the parable of a braggart willing to do anything to rise to the top of American intelligence. Between the tragic and the comic, the incredible character of Ulrich Mott finds an effective representation in Waltz's face and speech. The tight editing and the unusual narrative structure make the vision compelling, but the final part disappoints expectations.
Powerful indictment

High-level cinema, with all the well-matched ingredients to create a success, starting with an eccellent protagonist such as Jack Nickolson, perfect for this role. Watching this film is engaging and destabilizing for the viewer, who has the opportunity to understand the functioning of American mental-hospitals during the 60s through the haunted eyes of McMurphy-Nickolson, who pretends to be crazy to escape jail and tries to break the rules. A powerful indictment in line with the rebellious and liberating wind of the years of protest.
