3 Body Problem (2024)
I agree with the low rating
I have read only the first book, it is a work of art. I had not been so thrilled since I read Neuromancer back in '84. So, to the Nettflix series, fingers crossed, waiting, until I could watch it. I came with mixed expectations. After all, Netflix did a fairly good job with Altered Carbon, right? Ok NOOOOO... I am sorely dissapointed, to put it politely. Just no respect with the source material, it is not enough to keep some plot points, it is the overall concept, the beauty of the narration, the science, everything!. To convert it to a soap opear is just a capita sin. In a previous review I read "Just enough changes to make it more digestible for a TV audience". Translation: "just dumbed down for a stupider audience", like it is a good thing. Since when a TV audience is less intelligent than book readers? You are making a TV series, you have all the time in the world to explain everything! And of course, the mandatory changes in genders and races, so the appropiate equality quota is fulfilled. "Men bad, women good". PC trash again. I think we were lucky that this was not directed by Jerry Bruckheimer... Now, I have ZERO hopes for the upcoming Neuromancer adaptation in Apple+. Thanks for nothing, Netflix.
Kung Fu (2021)
Woke Fu, it's so bad it is almost charming
Just seeing some chapters without more information, I never guessed this was related to the old beloved show. Because it has NOTHING to do with it. The acting is atrocious! But it began to get on mu nerves: The woke agenda is all over. While all women in the show (*female* chaolin warriors, main character, mother, sister, mentor, villain) are determined, strong, assertive and resourceful, all men are one of these: wimps, easily manipulated morons, sources of information, cute nice gays, henchmen, bad guys, sidekicks. I think I will stick for a while, but Kung Fu it is not.
Cobra Kai: The Fall (2021)
This show has desecrated karate
After 20 years of attending tournaments with one of my sons (who is a black belt by now), now I find myself learning one or two new things about karate:
- All students are now black belts. After practicing just a few months. Right. Forget about all the years you need to reach that point.
- competitors do not wear red (aka) or blue (ao) belts, the only two colors you see in competitions. Nope. Just black.
- No age or weight categories. Nada. A skinny 12yr old using LENSES fight an opponent twice his size and weight. Suuure.
- No protections. Mouth, head, knees, feet. Zilch.
- Only 1 referee per fight. Forget about 1 observer on each corner of the tatami. Sure!
- Of course, just 1 tatami. No parallel combats in different tatamis.
- The atrocious guest singer is allowed to walk on the tatami using high heels. Of course!
- Any participant under 18yrs old is allowed to hit his opponent causing as much damage as possible, without any reprimand or even disqualification from the judges and referee.
All of the above, while during all the series, a simple white belt student is able to perform martial arts moves that would make proud a 4th Dan master.
I have found myself enjoying the dialogs and personal situations, because when a scene goes into karate, it is an embarrasment.
