Waste of time
3 February 2006
I saw this movie at the movie theater, big mistake, it was such a waste of time I found myself wondering when the movie ended. I had very high hopes for this movie, being a fan of Cameron Crowe, I expected better but was let down. I was very excited to see this movie because the trailer looked very good but almost all of the best scenes are in the trailer and the rest of the movie is just 2 hours of filler. It wasn't all bad, the scenes between Drew's family are very touching and humorous. Truthfully, if one thing brought this movie down it was the pointless romance between the two main characters and the very stiff acting from Dunst. I would wait until this one came out on HBO or even basic cable.

Meaningful

I attended a women's college and found that even though this movie takes place in the early 50's, I could relate to it. Women are still struggling with finding their place in society and this movie speaks to all generations, not just those of the 1950s. The relationships that the students had not only with each other but also with their teachers were portrayed very realistically. This movie is not without flaws though, I didn't particularly like Kristin Dunst, but that is because I believe she overacts in many of her movies, but I was very moved by Julia Stiles, Maggie Gyllenhaal and especially Ginnifer Goodwin. Worth watching.

Amazing...SImply Amazing

As a avid fan of the show and the music, I was very worried that they may butcher the show but boy was I wrong. The movie was fantastic!!! It was visually stimulating and emotionally moving. They did leave a couple things out, but I understand why and it still flowed wonderfully. I was a bit worried about Rosario Dawson in the role of Mimi but I truly felt like she did the part flawlessly. Having a majority of the rest of the original cast was a great idea and I believe the movie could not have worked with out them. Go see it, even if you don't know the show or the music. The message is one that everyone should hear.

I had pretty high expectations going into this movie but let me tell you, Serenity lived up to all of them. As an avid fan of Joss Whedon for year, each one of his shows has touched me deeply, but this movie just shows what a great writer and director he is. The actors add wit and laugher as well as show their serious side. Nathan Fillion in particular showed what a fine actor he is. People who have never seen "Firefly" will enjoy this movie, I know, I saw it 3 times with people who have never seen an episode and for those who have watched the show, Joss references it a couple times. Go see this movie, you will be glad you did, but be prepared to go on a journey that only Joss Whedon can take you on.
