Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Takeaway: Love & family are inferior to a ridiculous conspiracy theory.
Lots of eye-rolling & sighs due to complete lack of - well, a point. Except that humans are idiots who fall for the most ridiculous conspiracy theories, and apparently Night believes that's a GOOD THING?! We should all BLINDLY believe a few psychotic, suicidal strangers pushing a utilitarian agenda in response to a completely unbelievable & nonsensical situation. The needs of the many outweigh the few - who CARES about LOVE and FAMILY right?? Waste of life. No twist. No meaningful message - just frustrating and boring as hell. Disappointed after loving "Old" despite the haters. This film is as shallow & stupid as it gets! Watch the first 10 mins - you get nothing new after that...
Moonage Daydream (2022)
Bowie reanimated for 2.5hrs - MAGICK!!
Absolute MUST SEE in an IMAX theatre! Completely immersive "cinematic experience" really is the only way to explain it. Anyone expecting a movie/musical or a documentary will be sorely mistaken. This is so unique that no-one seems quite able to explain it to others! A work of art. A masterpiece. And I definitely think Bowie would have approved! It is 100% a film for diehard fans (nooo absolute beginners here!) If you haven't followed all stages of his life-long creative journey across many different mediums - you will get lost in the chaos. There is sooooo much packed into this: you blink = you miss. But for those of us that know....you know you know. And it feels MAGICKAL to put all those pieces of the puzzle together. Bowie was VERY much alive for those 2.5 hours - and it was EPIC! I salute you Brett for bringing this into our lives!!!
Soul (2020)
On the "mindfulness" bus.
Simple, very human-centric, reeks of privilege. Overrated. All over following the whole "mindfulness" self-help tend. Not suitable for kids and not developed or deep enough to have an impact on any deep thinking adults.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Best super-hero/villain movie I've seen in a long time!
I think all the *1-Star* reviews must be from men feeling *hurt* due to how many times there was a good ball-smashing in this movie!! Had low expectations due to these crappy reviews & how disappointing other female-led comic-book movies of late have been (Captain Marvel, Dark Phoenix), but was pleasantly surprised! This was a total kick-ass, kaleidoscope of fun with a FANTASTIC soundtrack, & some pretty awesome gymnastic-inspired fight scenes. It's straight up girl-power, but not the PC/feminist kind. Great variety of characters & Margot Robbie is fantastic. Give it a chance - I'm certainly glad I did!
