Expecting Amish (2014)
Awful
This movie is terrible. I wanted to watch because I love reading about the Amish and the blond girl from "the Goldbergs" is in it, but this is truly awful. The characters are flat and unlikeable, there's barely a plot to speak of (and what plot there is is extremely far fetched), and the writing is abysmal. As others here have pointed out, in the first five minutes you can tell that no effort was made whatsoever to depict Amish life accurately. Don't waste your time watching it.
The Emoji Movie (2017)
Not that bad
I was dreading my kid wanting to watch this because I had heard how bad it was. I heard that it was so awful, the worst kids movie ever, unbearable, etc. I managed to let my son forget about it while it was theaters and felt like I had dogged a bullet. When it came out on Netflix, I begrudgingly let him watch it. It's not that bad! Really, it's not. Would I recommend it to my friends and their kids? Not in particular. Is it insightful and clever? No. But is it a terribly bad movie? Also no. Kids (about age 8 and under probably) will be entertained and adults may be mildly amused at a few of the jokes. Anna Farris was really cute as the Jailbreak character and High-Five, while slightly obnoxious at times, was actually pretty funny. The plot has a few logistical problems, but most all movies do. And it's a kids movie; they don't really care about that stuff. Their standards aren't that high.
So overall, it's FINE. Doesn't deserve all the hate.
