Doctor X (1932)
disappointing
On the whole i found this movie irritating and preposterous. it is of interest to me as an early example of two-color technicolor. a lot of red and green-- no blue. even the sky is green.i think it would have been more effective without tracy and wray and make it a straight horror movie. the antics of tracy and wray are what makes this movie so unwatchable and preposterous. the comedy maid provided enough humor with her becoming a central character. all in all this movie though technically advanced was a disappointment to me.
Night of the Ghouls (1959)
unwatchable
This is the worst ed wood movie to have ever escaped. it is so bad that the movie studio itself became the set of the movie without any effort to disguise it with scenery. in fact in some scenes you can see movie equipment in the background. there was absolutely no attempt to shoot over-the-shoulder dialogue. the dialogue scenes are nothing more than actors reciting the lines looking directly into the camera and then the dialogue is spliced to make it look like the actors are talking to each other. the movie was so inept i wanted to throw a brick at the tv. ed wood also could not contain his desire to cross dress as he paraded as the black queen. and of course this movie has the ed wood trademark voice-over to tell the audience what it is seeing. watch this movie drunk or stoned. if you watch it when you're sober your head will explode.
Batman and Robin (1949)
holy plot batman
Batman and robin recover a stolen machine which can remotely control means of transportation--a machine which crudely predates today's autonomous driving devices. the plot has so many holes to go into much more detail. the biggest hole is the identity of the wizard. viewers are led to believe its the crotchety old inventor but it turns out it wasn't him. there is no explanation offered for what he does after sitting in the electric chair and then diappearing down a secret passage in the fireplace. there are other smaller holes which can be chalked up to this serial being made for kids who probably wouldn't notice. when viewing this you must realize times were different 70 years ago--something thst may be impossible for many peoole who see this today.
Latter Days (2003)
usual unrealistic gay fantasy
Suspension of disbelief is necessary with all movies but even more so with gay movies. there were several practical factual errors in this movie which require substantial suspension of disbelief. first, there was the difference in climate between los angeles and salt lake city. people don't go to the beach and sunbathe in november in LA. phoenix maybe, LA no. if the SLC airport were closed down, they would not toss everybody out. the airport would allow stranded passengers to stay in the airport although some would seek hotel accommodations voluntarily. second, in reality if someone were to return lost property they would more likely ship it to the owner than personally deliver. if someone did deliver lost property in person alarm bells would be going off in the head of the owner of said property. it just isn't done that way. thirdly, mormons are clannish by nature. they would go everywhere together to protect each other. they do not go around alone striking up conversation with non-mormons. i am sure all this was done to advance the plot ot the movie. finally the outed mormon missionary would likely stay in utah than move to LA. also the character of the gay playboy stretches credulity. both the main characters are social stereotypes. to think either one would significantly change his personality is almost ridiculous. whenever a group of gay men get together to produce a movie or a tv show they should consult at least one straight guy to get a sense of reality before they proceed.
