Game of Thrones: The Last of the Starks (2019)
Sad
I don't want to rant or complain about this episode or series. I just wanted a good end to a great show. It's honestly heartbreaking to see this show end with such mediocrity.
Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2019)
Much better than last week
I do agree with the people that say the dialogue has gone downhill in the show. The are a few good moments but nothing like it's prime. Last week's episode had forced moments and so did this week's, but I did appreciate the pacing of this week's episode more. It was all in Winterfell and felt like one last night together before the biggest best battle ever. I much as I can complain about the dialogue, everything felt human. These characters have come a long way and the episode looks back on that before they may lose it all. The scene with Sam Jon and Ed and the scene with Sansa and Theon were especially heartwarming to me. The scene of Tormund talking about giant's milk was over the top but the end with Brienne being knighted was nice. People are saying this episode is filler and can be skipped and honestly I agree. Just skip to the end if all you want is hype for the battle. But as much as this show is an action thriller, it's also a show about people. Seeing these characters grown and go on their journeys has been amazing and seeing them here just being human was nice, even with the occasional bad writing. I really enjoyed the pacing and simplicity of this epsiode because the we probably won't have that again until the finale. Overall, good episode and next week is soooooooo hype!!!!
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Worst premiere and episode(spoilers)
This was very disappointing. By far the worst episode the series, not by television standards but by Game of Thrones standards. Given what has been expected of Game of Thrones throughout the past seasons, this underperformed. The dialogue did not feel like the characters we've grown used to aside from Sam, Sansa, Davos and Varys. Sam was actually the most interesting character this episode. The CGI Dragon ride and especially the walk towards the dragons was shamefully bad. Season 1 CGI was better. Everything seemed rushed. The jokes were very forced and unlikeable. And the worst of it all was the Jon and Arya reunion. The Jon Sansa reunion had significantly more emotional weight to it than this one and that doesn't seem right. As much as I didn't enjoy this episode, I do believe it was meant for set up and the rest of the season will live up to the hype, especially when the White Walkers arrive to what I assume is around episodebut3. In all honesty I'm shocked at what I just watched. Really didn't feel like a GoT episode at all. Also no elephants but that's just more of a personal complaint.
Orange Is the New Black: Be Free (2018)
Distractions
The season ends by resolving the two main conflicts: The whole C vs D block/Barb/Carol issues and Tastyee's arc. The entire Barb vs Carol (and Frieda) conflict seemed a bit rushed. Though I agree with the decision to have them both kill each other, I still feel like many things that revolved around that stayed unresolved (I guess that'll be covered in the next season then). Main questions are about Frieda's and Red's situations as well as Daya and her mother's relationship with this drug smuggling. I also wasn't sure if Badison had turned a new leaf by end and joined the game, so I'll have to rewatch. What I did enjoy about the prison side of this finale was that kick ball tournament. First it does well to genuinely show that Ruiz is trying to change for the better. Her actions this episode compared to almost all of last season are polar opposites. It's good character development on her part. Second off, having this season's main theme be betrayal, this kickball game was an excellent way to alleviate the pain caused by all the betrayals this season. C and D block seem to be getting along, Cindy seems to be moving on, and overall things look like they are going to start getting better for these women. I also loved that the feeling of friendly competition and fun was initiated by Susan's kick. She truly is one of the most neutral characters in the show right now. For the prison part of the finale, I'd give it a 8/10. Now for Tastyee's trial. Her part of this episode exhibited some of the heaviest and realest acting I've seen on T.V. It is absolutely heartbreaking to see Tastyee be done wrong. The editing for the guilt verdict scene was done very well. Although I really wanted Tastyee to be considered not guilty, I'm glad that the show did what they did regarding her situation. It shows that OITNB isn't just trying to make it's fans happy but instead wants to send them a message of just how harsh reality can be, and that is where is show truly shines. The Tastyee part of the episode gets a 10/10 for me. The biggest problem I had with the episode was how the two parts were presented. I feel as though the happiness of the kickball game and Piper's release really took away from the severity felt from the trial. I can see that this season was going for a more optimistic ending, but in doing so, it ruins its best part of the finale. I wish the order of events was different because I think a lot of people are going to focus more on the final scene rather than the more impactful one. The kickball game somewhat serves to distract the audience from the tragedy that occurred and I feel that that wasn't necessary. I was expecting something like Poussey's death, where we the audience are just left wondering how disturbing and accurate the whole situation was. Overall, the ending seemed to cover up an end to a tragic yet amazing arc and I didn't like that direction. This season is much better than the last one though.
The Walking Dead: The First Day of the Rest of Your Life (2017)
predictable stuff but good finale minutes
This was overall an incredibly boring episode for the most part. This season fell very quickly. The start of the season was fantastic however it never achieved its full potential afterwards. This episode was one I looked to as a a chance to actually end this season with a bang and it absolutely did not deliver. Spoilers will being now. The biggest problem with this episode is mainly the Sasha flashbacks. They could have been covered in about 5-10 minutes but instead were taking up space throughout the episode. The walking dead's biggest weakness is its inability make secondary characters worth caring about. A perfect example is the Terra episode of this season. It was by far the worst episode of the show because it made us waste time watching an entire episode on a character as interesting as a damn potato(which is not that interesting because it is a just a potato). I mean I enjoyed Sasha as a character but not enough to be willing to sit through her fantasies for a good chuck of the episode. Her death also didn't strike a chord with me at all because of how predictable it was. This leads me to my next point which is that this show to incredibly predictable now. Not once in this episode was I shocked by the outcome. Sasha's death was a given the second we saw her first fantasy(major death flag). The scavengers betrayal was obvious because Negan's crew wasn't about to die in such a anticlimactic fashion. Finally Shiva and the Kingdom Ex- Machina was the most predictable thing ever along with the Michonne death fake out. A death off screen for a major character like Michonne is not gonna happen. On a side note, I am a Negan fanboy, so when Negan pulled back his swing on Carl I was kinda disappointed but once again, it was predictable. The last about 15 minutes were good and enjoyable. Shiva owning is finally good to see and I love seeing Maggie with power, however, that was all not enough to redeem the rest of the episode. Another note, which may just be me, is that with today's episode I noticed that the action sequence was honestly kind of a mess. My favorite action sequence on a TV series is the Game of Thrones hard home episode in season 5. A lot was going on to get you heart pounding however as a viewer I knew what was happening. This episode was mainly just scenes of shooting guns. The cool parts were Shiva take downs and Morgan killing with his staff but other than that the fight was anti- climatic and boring. In season 6 there was a scene where Rick and gang went rage mode on the walkers that infiltrated Alexandria and that is a perfect example of what action sequences should be like in this show. If the rest of the war was to play out like this episode then I am not looking forward to it. To finish this off, the final scenes with the two sides gearing up for war was epic and got me pumped and that was executed very well. Overall my biggest complaint for this episode was that the majority of it was a snooze fest that didn't do much to build up to the epic ending it delivered. The episode would have been better if the episode was less Sasha focused and more about what is happening on each side of this soon to be war. I hope season 8 doesn't disappoint and can deliver solid suspense and action with the war but until then I'm gonna have to give this finale and season a 6/10. Honestly I believe that 16 episodes is too long for a season in this show. If it were ten episodes, things would move at a much better pace and the story wouldn't seem so dragged out, but that won't happen so its only a thought.
