Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
Read the Book
I waited to watch this movie so I could get around to reading the book. So much details missing from the movie. In the book there is an entire chapter dedicated to Tom White's life leading up to him joining the Bureau. Tom White was a hero in this story and understandably, and sadly, there's just not enough time in a single movie to go into these types of details.
J Edgar Hoover was also involved, of course, because he was leading the Bureau. Hoover's barely mentioned in the movie. Hoover wanted the cases solved in a way that wouldn't embarrass the Bureau and at times Tom Whites career was in jeopardy, and so was Hoover's.
Hale and associates involvement was only the tip of the iceberg. 100's of Osage most likely were murdered for there headrights. Some white people handling full blooded Osages income were robbing their wards blind of millions. Hale was probably the most egregious out of all the white people stealing from the Osage but he was not the only one. All this is in the book but missing from the movie.
The above text isn't the only details missing from the movie. So I urge anyone who wants the full story, as much as David Grann was able to uncover, to read the book.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Disappointment
The producers/writers tried their hardest to make this beloved story into a Game of Thrones clone. This story is far more like the Lord of the Rings. LotR and WoT start off in very peaceful settings of the Shire and the Two Rivers. Padan Fain has similarities to Gollum. Moiraine is very much like Gandalf. The Dark One? Yeah, Sauron. Mt Doom, that's Shayol Ghul. I'm sure those of you who have read both series can find more. GoT is far more violent and abrasive in it's tone and setting. Sadly, this is what the makers of this series thought they had to resort to to sell this show.
While I understand you can't get 100% of the books material into a Movie/TV show this isn't an excuse to change so much in the adaption. LotR and GoT did well because they changed very little. Once GoT ran out of book material the show rapidly became worse and worse.
Sadly, as a fan of the books, this show can't be salvaged because of the changes. The makers of the show thought they could tell a better story then an acclaimed bestselling author. They used embarrassingly horrendous CGI to complement their poor storytelling. And tried desperately to make the story more edgy in an attempt to be more like GoT.
Going Overboard (1989)
Horrendous.
Quite possibly the worse movie I have ever seen. My brother rented this about ten years ago and I still haven't forgiven him. How did it get made and after making this horrendous film, who thought it was a good idea to actually release it. I wish I had a picture of the face I was making as a sat through this entire film, so I could at least laugh at that memory. Why the hell was Blockbuster even renting it out! Every copy should be burned!
