Darkest Hour (2017)
Gary brilliant Oldman!!
After Gary Oldman brought Sid Vicious, Joe Orton, Lee Harvey Oswald and Beethoven from the dead world to life, he did it again, and this time he brings Churchill himself!!
I have to say it's a good movie, the atmosphere, the cinematography, the story and the direction they were all good, but it's a Gary Oldman's film, he is the ultimate star of Darkest Hour, and he nailed it!!!
Nil by Mouth (1997)
Oldman's Masterpiece
Kafka once wrote "i think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us. If the book we are reading doesn't wake us up with a blow on the head, what are we reading it for?."
Well, I do believe that we need not only this kind of books, but also this kind of remarkable music and movies that shocks us, affects us and makes everyone of us a little bit more human..
'Nil By Mouth' is not a colourful picture was made to please us... It's one of the few movies that wake us up to face the real true world around us, this film is not a tale or a yarn, it's exactly the opposite of that, it's a story of a real work class family could be mine or even yours!. If not check up your neighbours and you will get what I mean..
The script is so smooth like you'ed almost forget that it's a film, the dialogue is just so spontaneous, unprompted and way far from any kind of platitude, which make it very easy to believe... I really think the script is the true star of 'Nil By Mouth' by its honesty and simplicity, because the whole story is from the real world out there where people trying their bests - in their different messed up ways- just to pass each and every day with the minimum possible losses.... every character is interesting to watch, and see what's going on deep inside of them and how they think and feel, why they are not doing anything to change their shitty reality , to move on, or maybe they're!. I just don't know.
Raymond's talking about his father actually brought me to tears and I think it's one of the best moments I've ever seen on movies, it's just so honest, simple, direct, pure and unaffected.
And not only the script, but also the direction is by the great Gary Oldman!! He's just natural...
Ray Winston and Kathy Burke are brilliant!! Again thanks for Gary Oldman for casting them and bringing the best of them..
I loved this movie and I believed it. I would love to see more from Mr. Oldman as a director and a screenwriter, and I think after 20 years of 'Nil By Mouth' being released now it's the time for him to give us another masterpiece
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
A well done adults' movie..
Yes it's a spying movie takes place during the cold war, but it's much more than that... It's a story about loyalty and betrayal, honesty and cheating, it's a story about love, loneliness, and disappointment... It's one of those movies that you would watch over and over again enjoying the details in it..
If you're a Bond's fan don't watch this movie because it's not your cup of tea. There's no action and over movements in this movie, there's no unbeatable hero in here facing half of the world and getting a sexy lady in the end...
"Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" is a highly respected classy picture and I can't name something in this movie wasn't good..
The story is so good so elegant so realistic and when there's nothing going on outside there're lots going on inside every character, particularly Smiley who you should pay attention for every simple act he would do because from the beginning he knows a lot more than what we think he does...
I loved the soundtrack so much, the songs too were so appropriate and made the scenes perfectly complete.
The direction was pretty good and nicely done by the talented Swedish director Tomas Alfredson.
The cast was wonderful -you can't go wrong with a British cast like that!- I have to say Kathy Burke is always a great actress and I really enjoyed her scene. Colin Firth, John Hurt, Mark Strong, Toby Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy all of them did a lovely work in the movie, But Gary Oldman's performance is from a whole different level! The amount of emotions he managed to deliver to us without expressing them out loud, he did it just by his way of looking, talking and remaining silent when words weren't needed... he was terrific, impressive, and stunning.
The little bit of private life for some of the characters(Jim Prideaux and the school boy, Connie Sachs, Peter Guillam and his partner, Ricki Tarr and his girl, George Smiley and his wife) gave them a human dimension and made them much real to me.
Once again it's a grown-ups' movie if you want to enjoy it pleas pay attention to the details and I assure you it's completely worth it.
Immortal Beloved (1994)
An Intensified Dose of Beauty
"-Music is... a dreadful thing. What is it? I don't understand it. What does it mean? - It - it exalts the soul. - Utter nonsense. If you hear a marching band, is your soul exalted? No, you march. If you hear a waltz, you dance. If you hear a mass, you take communion. It is the power of music to carry one directly into the mental state of the composer. The listener has no choice. It is like hypnotism. So, now... What was in my mind when I wrote this? Hmm? A man is trying to reach his lover. His carriage has broken down in the rain. The wheels stuck in the mud. She will only wait so long. This... is the sound of his agitation."
After 23 years of being released it still amazes me!! This beautiful underrated film, and still one of my top ten movies ever.. Each and every time I watch Immortal Beloved it astonishes me by its great soundtracks - Beethoven's most gorgeous music of course such as Kreutzer sonata, Pathétique sonata, Moonlight sonata, Ode to Joy in the Ninth Symphony and much more -, its lovely atmosphere, its smooth way of storytelling, its good choice of casting and the positives of this movie are endless.... No one in this movie claims that it is the real story of Beethoven, but anyway there was indeed a letter was written by Beethoven to his anonymous lover and so the movie is just giving us a possibility, no one is saying that it's a fact what we saw in the movie, but is it possible?! Is it possible that a letter never reached its destination caused this huge misunderstanding? Is it possible to love in such a strong way? Is it possible to bury your love for all those years but not being able to kill it deep inside of you? Well for a man like Beethoven who could write such an incredible music without hearing a single note of it, I would say everything is possible... In the end of the movie you can't do anything but to put yourself in Beethoven's shoes and see the things from his point of view - which is I am telling you so bloody hard and painful- but you have to do it and that will simply make you a better human being with more sympathy and more understanding toward others... I can't talk about Immortal Beloved without mentioning the greatest actor ever walked on Earth -I don't know about other planets- Gary Oldman the one and only actor who would let you meet Beethoven himself, Mr. Oldman is such an outstanding actor and all his performances are brilliant like Sid Vicious, George Smiley, Jackie Flannery, Shelly Runyon, Lee Harvey Oswald, Norman Stansfield, Drexl Spivey and Milton Glenn..... But him playing Beethoven will always be the performance that took and still takes my breath away!! He literally brought Beethoven from death to life with all his emotions, passion and fantasy. Gary Oldman allowed us all to feel Beethoven's agitation!!!
