The Fall Guy (2024)
80s fun for the new generations
This movie has everything you want from a good summer blockbuster - very entertaining, with great directing by David Lynch and a soundtrack that was 80s perfection (with a few surprises that had me laughing to tears!). Ryan Gosling did an amazing job with both action and emotional scenes and the rest of the cast was perfectly cast and played well off of each other. It just had it all, I can't remember the last time I laughed (to tears) so much in the cinema. Still got a couple of songs stuck in my head on repeat... So, yes if you get a chance, definitely go see it in the cinema if you can because it's one of those movies worth seeing (and hearing) on the big screen!
The Idea of You (2024)
Surprisingly charming
I went into this one completely blind, haven't read the book and was pleasently surprised. The main actors had a great chemistry and yes, their shared scenes were hot and all that but what got me was the charm and the emotion I did not expect. There were a couple of scenes that got me and I even teared up a bit at the end.
Music is also an important part of this one and they did a good job with the songs and performances, you could tell they put in an effort to make them look like a real band. I even had a couple of songs stuck in my head for a bit even being am way past my boy band stage. I'd say the entire movie was way more entertaining then I expected and the two main leads did a great job!
Third Star (2010)
Beautiful and heartwrenching, keep the tissues close
The premise of this movie is pretty simple and straightforward - four good friends decide to go on a sort of backpacking journey, simple enough except that one of them is dying and this trip is his last wish in a way. For a movie that starts of a bit slow it packs a big emotional punch in the end, surprising you completely. The performances by all four leads were exceptional and you really believe these four people have been friends for years, their interactions and gestures are very believable. But Benedict Cumberbatch stood out from the rest with his subtlety and emotion that pulls you in without saying much yet making a point (the scene in the tent after he wakes up in the middle of the night with everyone sleeping comes to mind). Also the actor that played Miles was great, the last scene between him and James at the beach was almost painful to watch because it just felt so real, which is a testament to great acting on their parts. All in all, a great little gem of a movie well worth seeing, if you can pull through the slower parts it will reward you with great scenery, heartbreaking performances and a thought provoking ending.
