Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Hold your Horses - It's Not That bad !!!
I have to admit this film is no Empire Strikes Back but it's no Phantom Menace either!!!
Having come across such negative stuff on the Internet regarding the direction taken with The Last Jedi, I would like people to take a more balanced look at this film for what it is (an attempt to move things forward rather then give us the same old same old).
There is a lot of blame headed in the direction of Kathleen Kennedy and Disney but bearing in mind George Lucas gave us Jar Jar Binks and played around with the original trilogy with his Special Editions adding supposedly comedic scenes (yes the terrible Bit with Han stepping on Jabba's tail) only took away the magic of what made these films so good in the first place.
There's also a lot of flak with how Luke was portrayed in this movie. How Is it any different to Yoda and Ben disappearing into hiding when they had helped to create a Monster that would tear the Galaxy apart. No wonder the poor chap was such a mess when Rey tracked him down.
To me the only thing embarrassing in this movie was the very George Lucas Like Mary Poppins in space bit.
All I'm saying is Johnson was courageous in trying something different so stop pretending Disney brought in Paul W.S. Anderson to replace Alfred Hitchcock. Just have another look at The Prequel trilogy and to a certain degree the Special editions of the original Trilogy. Be thankful Lucasfilm was sold on.
Doctor Who: Hell Bent (2015)
Absolute Rubbish!
Been catching up with Doctor Who recently as not really been a fan Of Capaldi's portrayal or the direction that the writing has taken. Thinks it's far too clever, The problem in trying to say something profound you need to at least be engaging which this season and the previous one certainly haven't been.
I think the problem is Moffat's writing. Although everyone rightly loves the episode Blink from an earlier season, he's been allowed to get away with naval gazing writing and with Peter Capaldi's performance rather tiresome and extremely boring (embarrassing scenes with an electric guitar need an honourable mention as well). Jenna Coleman was entirely wasted in these two seasons as she appears to have no chemistry with Capaldi. At least Matt Smith knew it was all a bit of a nonsense. I sincerely hope that the introduction of Jodie Whittaker and a new writing team will be fresh air and a cool reinvention for a show that needs something new !!!
