Garfield Gets Real (2007)
Good for young children
When I was younger, I loved this movie. I watched it on repeat all the time and it always entertained me. I found the disc today and decided to watch it again for old times sake. The experience... is not what I remembered. Watching it now, I realise how flawed it is. For a Garfield movie, the jokes fall rather flat. The animation is almost terrifying in some moments and it's rather boring overall. So, I wouldn't say it's terrible. I'd say I grew out of this film around the age of eight, so therefore this is a movie for young kids only. Pre-teens and up will find little to no enjoyment while sitting through this, but overall it's not the most unbearable thing your child can make you sit through.
Clueless (1995)
Enjoyable, but nothing happens.
I really wanted to like this film. I really tried. But I just couldn't ignore the fact that there is no clear storyline. It didn't feel like a movie, instead it felt like it was originally atv short series but stringed into a feature length movie right before they began filming. The ending doesn't tie anything together, and many plot points are left with questions unanswered (for example the part of the plot that focuses on Cher trying to get her driver's license). While this film did have some enjoyable moments, that isn't enough to warrant it all the great reviews it has gotten. I found it a complete waste of an hour and forty minutes.
A Christmas Prince (2017)
Don't expect something great.
I was forced into watching A Christmas Prince, so I was already salty about it when the opening credits rolled. Since my viewing experience was influenced by my current emotions, I decided to watch it again, to give it a fair chance. I still didn't really like this movie. It took a few ideas from various areas of Disney (i.e. The Princess Diaries, Beauty and the Beast, Enchanted) and even then the story was rather weak. The settings are beautiful, and the costumes are great too, however that doesn't save this movie from being average at best. With every character a cliché, every joke being unoriginal and predictable (rather like the main story), and a leading actress who seems to be trying way to hard to be Reese Witherspoon, I couldn't find myself liking this movie. However, I am not the target audience. This is meant to be a family Christmas film, and it succeeds at being so. Therefore, it is good, due to the fact that it is successful at what it is trying to be.
Baby Driver (2017)
It's such a fun movie!
I've been a fan of Edgar Wright since I first saw Shaun of the Dead around 2009. Since the release of The World's End, I've been eagerly awaiting whatever he had in store for us next. The result was Baby Driver, and though I had a few doubts at first that it might not live up to the hype I had for it, it proved itself as one of the best movies of the year. There were no truly perfect movies this summer, and Baby Driver was no exception. There were a few problems with the characters, none of them having a distinct traits that would make them memorable to everyone, not just fans of Wright, and the only character who has any sort of development is Baby, however I still enjoyed this movie. Wright wasn't trying to create an Oscar worthy storyline, he just wanted to create a fun movie, and he exceeded my expectations. So, while not an especially good movie, it is filled with exhilarating stunts, perfect soundtrack, directing that resembles Tarantino standards and an action packed third act, all of which should keep the viewer entertained. Edgar Wright has most certainly shown us what he is capable of!
