The Last Emperor (1987)
Growth, frustration and arrogance of a man struggling in the changing modern China
The harsh and unique life of Puyi, the last emperor of Qing dynasty in the drastically changing modern China. The plot is not based on the fact but It helped to describe his whole life in an appealing way. His growth, frustration and arrogance are well expressed. When it comes to cinematography, the scene of coronation is breathtaking. Even if its not completely based on the fact, it's better to know some basic knowledge about East Asia within around 1900 to WW2. It helps you to understand the situations Puyi is facing.
Geon-chook-hak-gae-ron (2012)
Beautiful drama of ordinary people in the modern Korea
Successfully illustrates delicate and complex emotions of people living in the modern Korea by following the plot going back and forth in time. The people in this movie have all of their own lives and they are expressed indirectly all over the film. I guess you can find someone who you mirror yourself. The cinematography are well thought out to illustrate emotions of characters in my point of view.
Especially I feel the strong sympathy with Seung-min when he is standing in front of Seo-yeon's place. It reminded me of the past nostalgic young days.
