Smile (2022)
Overrated.
I attended a screening last night and I just don't understand the high scores.
I feel it was made for a younger audience that believe a jump scare is what makes a horror film.
The younger members of the audience who didn't look a day over 15 was reacting to every jump scare and they're MANY. It's rammed with jump scares for a bloated 2 hour run time.
The last 30 minutes is hilarious
The CGI is ROTTEN
The story had potential and was going well for the first 30 minutes but it's all lost in a mess cheap attempt to scare you
When tension is replaced by repeated jump scares you see coming.
Positives the lead actress is really trying here and she does great.
Just a shame everything around her is clunky & generic.
The Black Phone (2021)
Will become a classic!
Slow build helps you feel sympathy for the children before the true terror begins....
Ethan hawke nails this role, despite wearing a mask for 90% of the film his eyes are terrifying.
Child actors can be very hit & miss but the 2 main child actors here are acting their little hearts out & no doubt they'll be stars for years to come.
Powerful score & beautifully directored.
The few flaws are very minor.
Senior Year (2022)
Rebel at her very worst.
I very rarely leave a review but this was horrendous.
My girlfriend made me watch this and every minute it got worse and worse than the last.
Try hard humour with a weak plot.
Skip this.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Cheap scares.
It was well made in regards to the actors giving it their all & the score was as is with the conjuring films great.
But ! The scares are cheap pop ups to scare the younger audience members.
No build Or unnerving just pop up scares.
I think these films are made for younger members to jump then tweet about it been scary
I wouldn't watch it again but it's not horrible or badly made its simply a Little horror you might watch on a rainy day.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
You SAW It Coming....
The most predictable Saw twist YET !
I'm a huge fan of the SAW franchise so was very much looking forward to this, I knew it'd be going in a new direction but this is probably too far different.
Tobin Bells voice is replaced with what sounds like a female robot.
The Billy puppet is replaced with a pig puppet dressed as a cop.
Chris rock is surprisingly not too bad in the role.
Samuel Jackson out acts everyone and delivers all his famous one liners.
The film doesn't care for the traps the traps aren't the focus it's the twist BUT you and everyone around you guessed the killer within 20 minutes !!!
And the reveal of the copycat jigsaw is shockingly underwhelming
Chris rock turns a corner to see the killer just stood there. That's it.
Bonnie & Clyde (2013)
Incredible performances but the story isn't accurate.
The storyline isn't 100% accurate
But !
The performances are incredible!
Emile Hirsch always delivers in his roles but Clyde Barrow fits like a glove they look similar & similar height.
But Holliday as Bonnie Parker is my favourite in this tv series
She went all out to perfect this role.
Santa Clarita Diet (2017)
Drew Barrymore is back !!
This fun little Netflix series delivers so much for fans of many genres
Comedy, Horror, Romance.
Drew Barrymore is on top form as she delivers a show stealing performance.
Jigsaw (2017)
Jigsaw is back or is he ?
The Saw franchise is back !
This year I've left the cinema disappointed more than I'd have liked I wasn't sure if Saw needed a return but I left very pleased with the result.
I think we can expect more Jigsaw films in the future.
It (2017)
Pennywise is gonna scare a whole new generation.
Growing up the original IT mini series scared me and made me a fan.
So I had high hopes for this film release and IT lived up to the Hype !
Incredibly well acted specially by Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise he really put his own spin on the role.
Look forward to the sequel.
We'll float again soooooon
