Soul Searching And Running From The Past
20 April 2024
This was a good episode, not great but a little slow at times. I would've liked to seen a different ending, but it was fine. What I don't understand is the scene in the Longbranch where the town folk gathered for some vigilante justice. Doc and Festus are both assaulted & knocked silly, but when Marshal Dillon arrives, he does nothing in retaliation to the 2 men who are the instigators. A matter of fact, Marshal Dillon stops Festus from going "ugly on an Ape" on the old guy "Mace". Usually the Marshal backhands first & then asks questions later, especially if Doc Adams has been harmed.

Moving along, I would've liked to have seen Lee Majors added in the following season instead of Roger Ewing aka "Thad". I never understood why they cast Ewing to begin with as a regular. No disrespect to Roger Ewing, I never thought he gelled with the cast. I also think Theodore Bikel did a great job in this episode. I would've given him an Emmy nomination. And to all of the other reviewers attacking others for their opinions in this thread... if you don't agree with a review, keep it to yourselves.

Magnum, P.I.: The Hotel Dick (1985)

WTF Was That?
25 April 2023
I have no idea why the writers thought it was a good idea to have Magnum work as a temporary Hotel Detective just to pay off a couple debts to Rick and TC. Add the irritating character played by Candy Clark and the Higgins clone played by Granville Van Dusen and you have one of the worst episodes of the series. I still have a slight case of PTSD after watching it. It almost seems like Candy Clark's role was written for either Vicki Lawrence or Carol Burnett. Maybe they turned it down after reading the goofy script. It would've made more sense if Magnum's PI buddy Luther was hired as the Hotel Detective and Magnum was somehow conned into helping him.

One Bad Episode
29 March 2023
This has to be one of the worst Magnum episodes of all of their 8 seasons. Gretchen Corbett, who played Rockford's lawyer from The Rockford Files is playing a DJ named Holly Husdon, who Magnum hears on Hawaiian radio and remembers her from the Vietnam War. So Magnum goes to the radio station for an autograph and Holly ends up hiring Magnum to find her long lost love last seen in Vietnam. In a side plot, Magnum, TC and Rick are building a mysterious outdoor structure ordered by Robin Masters. Higgins feels left out and begins to have symptoms of a cold, but it's him just being "psychosomatic" according to Magnum. The ending could've used a re-write, but by then I was just ready to move on to the next episode.

Now You're Cookin'
15 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was the last episode of the series. Sadly like most series finales, this was just average, but it did have its moments. Since the producers already knew the show wasn't being renewed, they did try and tie up some loose ends regarding the characters' futures. I was really hoping they would've blown up that damn red plastic kit car named Coyote, but sadly it didn't happen. McCormick enrolls in law school to follow the Judge's footsteps and eventually become a lawyer. Judge decides to buy a car repo business, which was an odd choice by the show writers. Also, neither one has told the other of their new endeavors. McCormick's probation finally ends and both pretend they weren't aware. Later the Judge offers to pay McCormick's tuition if he beats the Judge in one on one basketball. The Judge throws the game and loses. He felt McCormick was like a son and this was a way to repay him for turning his life around. I give it a B-

An Odd Tonight Show
19 August 2021
Ed is out and the voluptuous Carol Wayne fills in as the announcer. She disrupts Johnny numerous times and he gets visually frustrated at times. When Doris Day stops by, Carol keeps interrupting the interview and Doris gets a bit irritated with Carol. When Doris talks about animal rights, her and Carol get snippy. Also Rodney Dangerfield stops by and is great as usual. I gave it 8 stars because Carol Wayne was a disaster. She appeared in numerous future shows but never as Ed's fill in.

One of The Best Documentaries in Sports
18 April 2020
A beautifully done documentary about the history of the AFL and its impact on professional football. The AFL was looked upon as a semi-pro league by the NFL, until the AFL began an all out assault on signing the top collegiate football players during the 1960's like Billy Cannon and Joe Namath. Eventually the conservative NFL realized the AFL wasn't a second rate league. On January 15, 1967 the champions of the NFL and AFL would go head to head in the Los Angeles Coliseum and it would be known as the Super Bowl. Pro football would never be the same afterwards. Finally several years later, both leagues would merge into two separate conferences, NFC and AFC thus forming the NFL as we know it today.

Barnaby Jones: The Alpha-Bravo War (1975)

Guidance Missile Off Course
3 December 2019
This episode has many flaws, but Barnaby Jones still makes it enjoyable. A company is creating a missile guidance system & during a test, someone is killed & Barnaby is brought in to investigate. First problem is no way he'd be allowed to wander around the inner workings of a top secret program. Oh the plot has the run of the mill sabotage, extra marital affairs & co-workers conspiring against other co-workers. Yes you guessed it, all was done because of greed. Towards the end, the missile test in front of the military personnel had many flaws. No way onlookers would've been allowed to stand within 50' feet away while a missile was being fired. An obvious misfire resulting in an explosion would've killed everyone. Also Barnaby & Betty would not had been allowed to witness the test. Barnaby's cunning & intuitive problem solving skills with a hint of southern charm cracks the case without breaking a sweat.

A Sheepish Plot
6 October 2019
Since it was the last season when this aired, the writers obviously mailed it in with this script. Greg steals another school's mascot & that's about it. When Carol holds a PTA meeting at their house, the goat gets loose & a campy "Scooby Doo style" chase scene ensues. The neighbor from Bewitched Mrs Kravitz aka Sandra Gould & Variety Columnist Army Archerd's wife Selma Archerd appear as PTA parents during the awful goat chase scene.

Dead Stinker
30 June 2019
After watching this episode, there's a reason why the series was on its last legs. The only good thing was a stunning looking Linda Dano. Col. Austin keeps seeing a ghost that looks like himself & Margaret (Linda Dano) is trying to help him. The writers threw in a side Russian Agent plot but it's 60 minutes I wish I had back.

Yikes!
17 June 2019
I stumbled on this episode while waiting for my clothes to dry in the dryer & was mesmerized how bad it was for 60 minutes. Dick Van Dyke plays a lookalike mobster named John Gotti (hmmm) who wears sunglasses to differentiate between the mobster & Dr Sloan. I just stayed tuned in because Michelle Stafford plays a spicey girlfriend of Mr "G" & was always wearing something skimpy. Overall, CBS should've cancelled the series halfway through this episode & fired the writers.

No Mr T!
16 June 2019
Another poorly written script, but it wasn't all bad with Markie Post guest starring as a former mob wife turned model. She is dating Face until her past catches up with her. Also Mr T is nowhere to be seen until the very end of the episode. It's the only episode that he missed during the entire series. Maybe he was at the mall kiosk buying more ridiculous gold colored jewelry & couldn't make it back for shooting the episode in time.

Low Blow Of An Episode
31 March 2019
This episode could've been really good except the writers decided to "take a dive". Why would anyone believe an aging Joe Kapp would be an amateur boxing contender? Then there is the knife throwing hitman guy with the large gut who is either a boxer and or an accomplice of the saucy yet former Batgirl Yvonne Craig. Steve gets trained by former pro boxer Jerry Quarry, whose acting skills rivaled Mr Ed. The plot is confusing until the end when the gang tries to steal some device that looked like a silver dumpster. WTF was it or why they were even stealing it is anyone's guess. (Sidebar) Three former cast members of The Longest Yard did appear in this episode, yet the theme was boxing.

Hockey & Harassment
20 February 2019
Well, thank god there was some hockey involving Brandon & Tom or this episode would've been a snoozer. Donna with some way over the top acting. It seems she's been harassed way too many episodes. How about a different story arc with her character? Come on Darren Star, you're better than that. Also Kelly & Val renew their hate for each other in a love twist involving Brandon & Tom.

Scrooge ripoff
11 February 2019
Ray Walston plays a scrooge like character while Dick Sargent plays his nephew who is under a lot of pressure from his uncle. Steve Austin helps Dick & his family out during Xmas. The actual plot is quite weak. Adam Rich plays the son (before his Eight is Enough days) & Quinn Cummings (before starring on Family) plays the older sister. The youngest sister doesn't have a cast credit.

Slow & Confusing
2 January 2019
This 2 part episode was one of my least favorites. I get they were trying "The Sting" theme, but the plot was bad. Trisha Noble is worth watching, but even she can't carry it. Garner's hillbilly character was unnecessary. He should've just played a character based more on Paul Newman. Seems Angel should've had more airtime since he's always trying to run a con on previous shows.

Great & Terrible
13 August 2018
This was one of the best & worst episodes in the series. The plot was either written by a 6 yr old kid or the actors improvised for 60 minutes. Guest stars were former NFL players Mike Henry who was fresh off The Longest Yard, Dick Butkus, Carl Weathers who was about to star in Rocky, Larry Csonka, Tom Mack & Earl Faison. As an 8 yr old kid who loved the Miami Dolphins, I remembered being excited that Csonka was on the Six Million Dollar Man. After watching it again 42 yrs later, it seemed the producers thought it was a good idea to have these guys play a sandlot football game out on a hilly field with tall grass & weeds. It was a predictable ending in 1975 & again in 2018.

Bizarre & Terrible
24 July 2018
This was the worst idea of an episode. It literally make no sense. It was a sequel to "The Wiving" from a year before. You'd think it being towards the end of the series before being cancelled, the writers would've paid tribute to the cast by honoring them. The actual Gunsmoke cast barely makes it in this episode. This had to be a potential spin-off idea from CBS. The mom & dad who were played by Harry Morgan & Fran Ryan are involved in getting their three sons married off all the same day. Shenanigans ensue with the brothers tusslin' with a group of local ruffians. One of the soon to be brides knew one of the ruffians & the girl keeps it a secret. Jim Backus plays a preacher who'd rather sip on some spirits than lift any for his congregation. Later that same year Harry Morgan would sign to play Col Potter on MASH. David Soul would make a pilot for ABC called "Starsky and Hutch" & it would run 4 seasons from 1975-1979.

Mannix is hired by a kid....
5 July 2018
This episode is why Desilu should've kept Mannix working at Intertect for Lew Wickersham instead of going out on his own in season 2. Mannix is hired by a young girl to help her dad get out of prison because she thinks he is innocent. Her father is scheduled to be put to death in a matter of days. The episode was well written. The story includes the mob, Lou getting pissed at Mannix, Mannix getting down & dirty with the mob boss' girlfriend, Mannix being blown up, shot at & trampled by a horse. Does it have a happy ending? Maybe or maybe not.

McMillan & Wife: Till Death Do Us Part (1972)
Season 1, Episode 6

Far fetched Plot
16 June 2018
This episode was the worst of the first season. Enright dates a supermodel. No really he dates a supermodel in this episode. Without giving spoilers, the episode contains the McMillan's sitting around & talking for almost the whole time. It was as if NBC ran out of money for the show budget, so the writers come up with a plot where the McMillan's sit in their condo for the 90 minute episode. The serial killer angle would've been great if the writers were a little more creative.

Weird Adam 12 Crossover
9 May 2018
In the pilot episode, Malloy & Reed from Adam-12 make an appearance. Then in the 11th episode of Emergency, John & Roy discuss the Adam-12 tv show plot throughout this episode. It is a bizarre & awful written plot. The only reason I can give for this episode is Adam-12's ratings were dipping. Adam-12 would hang on for 3 more seasons before being cancelled.

Confusing Plot
9 March 2018
The premise starts out with a guy spying on residents with a mic & telescope. Then a woman hires Mannix to find her missing husband. After that, there's the usual extortion, murder etc... But the jewelry heist ending made literally no sense, almost as if they added it at the last minute to the episode. Oh I almost forgot, Mannix drives off a cliff & survives with only his 100th concussion. In the first 5 seasons, I've seen Mannix drive off or literally fall down large ravines numerous times without sustaining paralysis or broken bones. Either he is Wolverine or just a lucky SOB.

Bizarre Episode
7 February 2018
Mannix attends his HS reunion in a deserted "ghost town". Mannix' HS football teammates, well 4 teammates & 2 of their wives are the only people attending this HS reunion. Mannix has no idea it's a reunion because his invitation was a phony telegram from a "Mr Webster" about a case & someone shoots at him as he arrives as a practical joke. His former teammates had duped him because they felt he would not attend a HS reunion. If that's not strange enough, the remaining 54 minutes of the episode will have you thinking, "Were the writers on mind altering drugs when they created this script?". I've seen many Mannix episodes & this easily is the worst in the series so far.

Cannon: Fall Guy (1975)

Plot as slow as Cannon running a 100m race
22 January 2018
This has to be one of the worst written episodes during the 5 year run. Vera Miles did a great job playing the somewhat evil president of an oil company, while her barely legal daughter, played by Vera Miles' real life daughter Kelley Miles, was dating the older oil executive framed for embezzlement. Denny Miller plays Vera Miles' assistant who was drilling more than just oil. Cannon is hired by the oil exec Alan Feinstein, who realizes someone has pegged him to take the fall when the IRS is called in to investigate corruption. Cannon finds out about the company's illegal slush fund & by the end of the episode, I just didn't care any longer. Oh yes, Cannon gets ran off the road by some heavy machinery, which made absolutely no sense when you find out who the real killer is after 55 minutes of wading through this terrible plot. Cannon does sport some 1770's style mutton chops in this episode.
