Jajeon chawang: Eom Bogdong (2019)
Entire cast is Korean
The film falls into the realm of propaganda, evident in the exclusively Korean cast, even for Japanese characters. The poorly executed Japanese dialogue necessitates subtitles, which unfortunately mirror the overall subpar quality. The portrayal of all Japanese characters as inherently evil adds another layer of discomfort, overshadowing what could have been a compelling biographical documentary about the cyclist. Regrettably, the film opted for a route that veers into the territory of cinematic disappointment and typical Korean propaganda and all Japanese are pure evil. You'd think in 2019 that directors and producers actually want to provide something worth filming. No idea who sponsored them, but I can guess...
Shallow Hal (2001)
Story is okay but pretty offensive
The premise is fine but since Jack sees all overweight women as thin it defeats the purpose. It also neglects all the things that affect overweight people be it by choice or illness. I'm talking about health, day-to-day routines, buying clothes, travel, costs, having kids, work, sports, etc. Just simple things like riding a bicycle or going hiking together. You can't ignore those facts and expect everything to be normal. The most concerning of course is the stereotypical Hollywood version of physical beauty vs what's supposed to be about inner beauty. This can be said for anybody who has a disability or illness that causes disfigurement, accidents or acid attacks, etc. You couldn't hypnotise somebody to go out with someone who is blind, deaf or can't speak without them having some serious problems in communicating and acting like an idiot. In short, Jack would have been seen as an arse and making fun of Rosemarie in a cynical and cruel way and you end up needlessly hurting somebody. Tricking people or hiding things rarely turns out for the better.
Dual (2022)
Lazy writing
Mediocre black mirror sub par level script with emotionally detached people. I get that they choose this kind of slow dry humour and monotonous dialogue but it doesn't work and I couldn't care less about any of the characters as it seemed so distopian that main character might as well have been a failed/damaged replicant of a replicant with zero human qualities. The plot was so obvious and cliched with so many holes that it won't even make you question why but rather just sigh and forget about it. It probably could have been much more but you won't bother asking what could have been done better.
Manbiki kazoku (2018)
Sadly real
I watched this move 3 times and it gets better each time. The sad reality of developed countries where many people just don't fit in. Those who struggle do notice similar people and are naturally drawn to each other. These are the working poor and 17% of Japan are below the poverty line making less than $10K. We're all alone in this world and family is the closest thing we have and sometimes family doesn't mean your related.
Tenet (2020)
The more you watch it the better it is
The first time you're scratching your head, second time you're starting to understand the dynamics. Third and fourth time you're admiring the cinematography and listening to the music score and how it's all beautifully synchronised. Fifth time you know everything by heart and can enjoy each sequence. You might spend sometime researching the timeline on the internet but ultimately it's an artistic movie intertwined with entropy and time inversion.
Into the Sun (2005)
Chinese and Japanese do not mix
If your going to make a movie related to Japan especially for someone like Steven Seagal who speaks Japanese and knows Aikido you need to stick to what you know.
Chinese do not enter Japanese politics ever unlike Koreans in Japan. They could not careless nor would the Chinese living in Japan who are just here for work. You ain't going to find many Chinese triads in Japan either. If they knew what they were doing they would have the Korean Yakuza which would have made sense. I wish they would quit mixing Asians to cover for just about every other country expect where they are originally from. Cheap movies always have Chinese filling in for Japanese and more commonly American Japanese who imigrated like 3 generations ago and don't speak a work of Japanese. One would have thought it costs more to hire English non-speaking Japanese.
As for Tokyo Chinatown?? I wish, no such thing... Only Yokohama Chinatown in my neighbourhood.
It would be a great movie for blind foreigners who hope to never come to Japan because it's like they built the set in New Orleans hired Filipinos to build it while under supervision of an Indian director born and raised in Timbuktu and only speaks Russian. Next time use only local people to get the job done and don't MIX.
Nope they don't mix...
