Cobra Kai: Miyagi-Do (2021)
Warped sense of time
How long were Chozen and Daniel together in this episode? An afternoon or a week? It felt like a week, but that does not make sense based on the other activities in the show. The episode was very interesting but the continuity issues made it hard to follow and impossible to believe. And this was probably the best episode of the season, which highlights the overall weakness of the season, half-baked writing.
Cobra Kai: The Good, The Bad, and the Badass (2021)
Lazy, weak,, soap opera writing
The scene with Johnny and Carmen was terrible. Why would Carmen tell Johnny he was meant to be a Sensei after all that has happened (besides for the fact that she barely knows him)? Why would she tell Johnny that she realizes he was just as hurt when her ONLY SON almost died in a horrific accident that left her ONLY SON paralyzed?
That was one of many poorly written parts of this episode, which is part of a poorly written season, filled with the type of dialoged and interactions you would expect from a soap or perhaps Three's Company.
Is this Netflix's influence? Season 2 of this show was perhaps one of the best seasons of any modern streaming show. After this season, I will be glad to take a long break from this show.
Cobra Kai: Feel the Night (2021)
Lazy disappointing writing
Elizabeth Shue was expected to be much more than she is, which is a vehicle to put Johnny, Carmen and Miguel in a tough spot; creating an unfortunate love triangle with Johnny, Carmen and Ali, with Miguel being collateral damage at the very time he is supposed to bring Johnny and Daniel together. And frankly, there is no chance that a successful doctor would throw herself at a guy who spent three decades (except for the last 2 years) binge drinking and working as a contractor. They really dropped the ball with the setup and execution of this potentially very interesting plotline. Perhaps Elizabeth Shue could not commit more time to this show, but that does not mean the writers should dumb-down her integration to this story.
Star Trek: Discovery: Su'Kal (2020)
Lazy writing, and it shows
This season remains uneven, though at this point skewing down. Making Sau human in this episode was so lame and lazy that it was hard to watch and it will be hard to un-see. They pulled the mighty wizard from behind the curtain to cloak an empty plot.
I am not sure why they cannot seem to filter the bad ideas from the good ones, or perhaps they are running out of ideas. This season begs the question of why they went to the future if they didn't know what do to with it when they got there. I used to watch these episodes in their entirety when they dropped, now I break it up to short segments to gap fill other activities. The cringe factor is otherwise overwhelming.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
sad ending to otherwise decent set of movies
So many problems with this movie. All the theme music that made each of these movies so memorable is stripped out and replaced with bland, forgettable background noise. The side stories, like Jean's father, are ridiculous and painful to watch unfold. The one curse line in this movie is completely gratuitous. Hank's yelling at Charles seemed ridiculously forced. If Charles and Eric live together, unhappily ever after, they would have killed DOFP, Logan and the school. I dont know if the cast enjoyed this but the investment paid to this "first class" over the last 8 years did not at all pay off.
