The Pod Generation (2023)
Was expecting some sort of twist, but overall I enjoyed the story
Went to a Sneak Peak at my local cinema and this movie was shown. Didn't know what it was about so I didn't know what to expect. But the overall idea of the film kept me interested.
The movie tells it's story about a couple in the near future that have a baby inside a pod provided by the womb company.
The story is told slow compared to the way recent movies are being made, but I liked that about this movie. You get more involved in the lives of these characters.
Though during the entire movie I felt something unexpected was about to happen at any minute, like the baby was not actually inside the pod, or the baby is a clone created by the womb company, or the womb company is creating baby's with genetic defects, or the AI is taking over all natural things in the world, or the baby is just a hologram, or the baby never gets born, or the pod breaks down or something like that.
That's what you get off you have seen many movies..
This movie is nothing about that. Mon of my thoughts actually happened, and the movie is about a couple having a baby but instead being pregnant it grows inside a pod. So basically this movie could also just have been a movie about a surrogate mom, or about a pregnancy where the woman does not bond with her baby but the father does. But the sci-fi in this movie made the overall setting interesting.
The movie ended quite unexpected, but I wasn't disappointed. Overall I enjoyed this story and the acting was wel done. This movie deserves a higher rating, but it you were expecting a blockbuster sci-fi action flick with lots of explosions and CGI battles, then this movie is not for you.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
This movie is a 10 out of 10. Coming from a guy that doesn't like musicals.
I'm a 40 year old guy, and my favorite genre in general are of the science fiction / fantasy type movies and I really don't like musicals (except for Little Shop of Horrors which is kind of a guilty pleasure).
But this movie and the music gives me goosebumps every time I watch it. It just gets better every time I see it. It's story, music, pacing and overall look and details are perfection. This movie should be a 10 out of 10 if it could make a guy like me want to see this movie again after the credits roll.
Hugh Jackman blew me away with his (singing) performance, as is the rest of the cast. The songs bring true meaning to the story and are really well written. The story is simple yet has everything to be emotional enough and it's very well told through song and image.
If there is one thing I didn't like about the movie it's the cgi legs of the little man. It looks like they forgot to animate his knees or something, but it just looks weird.
Other then that, it's a great movie. Got it on 4k Blu-ray with HDR and Dolby Atmos and it's a beauty. Should give this movie a chance of your skeptical. Put the volume up s bit higher then usual and just enjoy it.
The Ritual (2017)
What was the moral of this story?
The movie starts of good. The main character who froze and did nothing to help his friend in the beginning set the tone for the story.
The 4 remaining friends go on a hiking trip in memory of their lost friend in a beautiful Scandinavian landscape which provides some very nice images and scenes. The overall tension of the movie was good.
For me the friendship between al the characters was not clear enough. For the viewer to care anything about the main characters it would have been nice to see a more close relationship and a reason for them being friends.
Throughout the movie the main character was unable to save any of his friends as he leaves the forest as the only survivor.
Since he felt miserable before doing nothing to prevent his friend to get killed in the store, he is probably feeling even more miserable now not able to save any of his other friends as well.
So what was the moral of this story? Do not go off trail hiking in Sweden, because you'll end up dead? It certainly was not about redeeming yourself as a friend and hero by saving your other friends.
Chappie (2015)
One my top 10 favorite Sci-Fi movies!
The average score of this movie om IMDB is exactly why people should ignore these ratings and just watch the movie to judge for themselves.
This movie is easily one of my favorite Sci-Fi action movies, like District 9, Elysium, Edge of Tomorrow, Oblivion, Passengers etc. Maybe I'm just a sucker for these kind of movies, but I really like the story, emotion, action and general look and feel of these kind of films.
It also looks great and has a great soundtrack. The acting is great as well. Chappie is a great character. Bloomkamp should make more of these kind of Sci-Fi movies!
Prisoners of the Ghostland (2021)
Turned the movie off after 30 minutes
Me and my gf tried to watch this movie last night. As a fan of Cage, sci-fi and post apocalyptic movies I had to turn this movie off after 30 minutes and some weird looks of my gf. It's always hard for me to not finish watching a movie, but couldn't sit through this one.
Put in a Blu-ray of National Treasure instead. Had a good time after all.
Tenet (2020)
Left me frustrated from start to finish
Saw this movie last night without knowing anything about it beforehand.
I've avoided watching any trailer and did not read any reviews since they tend to spoil the experience.
The very first minute the movie started I was unable to understand what was going on, and I was unable to catch up to the unintelligible storyline.
This has never happend to me before to this extend and it has ruined the entire movie for me.
Every second I was asking myself: What is going on? Who is that guy? Where are they now? How did they get here? Why are they doing that? When did this happen?
The very fast paced script, editing and overly loud soundtrack did not help to comprehend it either. Somehow I believe there is a very clever story beneath it all, but since the movie does not explain anything I could not care about any of it.
Half way through the movie I gave up trying to wrap my head around it and by the end of the movie it left me frustrated and wanted to ask my money back.
Movies like Inception and Interstellar can also be hard to understand the first time around and rewatching those movies has made them better.
Maybe the same will happen for Tenet, but since the first experience was so horrible I'm not looking forward in rewatching it at all.
I do hope these fast paced scripted and edited movies are not becoming a trend.
I Feel Pretty (2018)
Had a great time!
Went to this movie with my girlfriend. Didnt know what to expect, but saw the bad rating on IMDB. Went anyway and had a great time. Feel good movie.
