Persuasion (2022)
Wanted to like it
Please just go and watch the.version with Cairen Hinds and Amanda Root - it's a Jane Austin adaptation at its absolute finest. Beautiful characters and so well scripted that it doesn't have to spell out all the subtext like this version does, it is all there. I wanted to like this version, and bits I did but so so inferior to the one I speak of above.
Flood (2007)
Great premise, fails oh so badly in the delivery
Great "what if" idea with a seriously great cast but they are given absolutely nothing to work with and just phone it in; I recon they should all club together to take out a contract on the writers, producers, and director.
The plot is a cliche from beginning to end trotting out EVERY disaster movie trope. The plotting you could pilot the Titanic through and scripted dialogue is absolutely woeful. The characters are embarrassing stereotypes of the genre. Still watched it all, some of the scenes of London flooded are interesting.
V-Wars (2019)
Live a good vampire/horror/Sci Fi story, shame this isn't one.
I tried really hard to like this but it is trite, formulaic and derivative that adds nothing to the genre. The writing is poor and riddled with plot holes you can drive a truck through and much of the acting is cringeworthy to abysmal.
Shame Netflix has spent so much on this when it has cancelled other outstanding shows like The OA, Travelers, Daredevil and the like.
Travelers (2016)
Outstanding series
In my top 10. Binged all 3 seasons because it left me with no other option. Characters are not the usual one dimensional ones and the story telling is superb- going to miss it sooooo much so back for a rewatch already!
The OA (2016)
Wow!
I didn't know what to expect going into it but have to class this as one of the most binge worthy shows I have seen. It's pretty difficult to describe without spoilers so will just say the story is mesmerising, completely captivating, and so beautifully and lovingly told you will totally believe.
All the performances are outstanding and the characters are so well real you come to care deeply for all of them, even the ones we probably shouldn't.
So hoping this show gets picked up by another network, life will be so much poorer without it.
