Shanghai (2012)
Best crime thriller made in Indian cinema. Period.
Emraan Hashmi did what he should have done in Hindi cinema way before - Choosing a 'script'. Abhay Deol is an actor on par with others like Randeep Hooda, Irrfan Khan and Manoj Bajpai.
Movie was gripping, stirring and most importantly, impressive!
Not gonna give any spoilers. Watch it for the sake of realistic cinema.
Yeh Saali Aashiqui (2019)
Undertow. Underrated. Intriguing. Captivating.
I didn't follow-up much when I heard about this release back in the last month of 2019. Thanks to the lockdown, I could find this piece of cinema lying somewhere discreet. Yes, I have rated it a complete 10. In your opinion, it might not be! But looking at how well the cast and direction pulled it off, I won't give a ny score less than this. While watching the plot in the beginning I was doubting the weird scenarios taking place, especially with the multiple affairs of the female lead. Till the end, it was very much but clear and convincing.
Some people here in the reviews are rating it too good, while others rating it 1/10. I was confused too. After I watched, I know where the cribbing ones belong - down the trash-bin. They call it too lame or predictable are one of those typical bimbos, who you all have one around in your life. On the contrary, some here even go to the extent of saying it's too unpredictable and unrealistic. Imagine getting one of these two sides of a useless coin on toss! This movie is actually in between these two extremes. It is not some thing truly unrealistic that can't be pulled off in real life considering the circumstances and desperation, but also not a daily dose of the usual crime-report drama that happens every other day. I enjoyed it a lot, 100X times better than any Tollywood trash, which actually are 'unrealistic' and childish!
Music by Armaan Malik and some of the rap lyrics were on point. Efforts were sincere and made in the right 'direction'.
WARNING: Feminazis and Gold-diggers should stay away!! I'm sure they will return to rate this movie 1/10.
Manorama: Six Feet Under (2007)
People in the Reviews must stop calling every good Hindi movie as "GEM"
This movie is one of the several good films like this in Hindi movie industry. So it's not a "gem". It's just another usual masterpiece from Bollywood, which only Bollywood can deliver. No other film industry can develop such a spectrum of artistic range other than this golden Hindi film industry.
No dramatic background music like South Indian movies (epitome of 'cancer' to Indian movie industry), female actors had a very equal screen space and irritating songs in midst were nowhere to be seen. Realistic depiction of a thrilling detective story, with real-life relevant elements, minimal artificiality of emotions, and non-theatrical dialogues.
Everything - performance, writing, direction; was exactly on point. These movies are not a few in modern Hindi film industry, there are many. Look in the related section, it's filled with many such sensible entertainers. These movies are for the choosy film buffs interested in realistic cinema, documentary-style, and this is where real artists show-up with promising works.
Going to watch Parzania after watching Sarika's role in the movie.
Dasvidaniya (2008)
One of the MANY lesser appreciated gems of Hindi cinema
The talent of acting, casting, screenplay excels so well that it made me cry out of nowhere. For a long 10-15 mins of the film's climax. This can only be achieved through an artistic work so well made that it can make tears rolling down my face continue for over several minutes.
The cartoon-watching and Tollywood-watching immature audience who keep criticizing Bollywood turn a blind eye to several dozens of masterpieces like this in Hindi cinema to throw a remark on Bollywood while calling it copywood or an all-Salman-Shahrukh industry, while in fact, South Indian movies are continuously making the same trashy script in million ways, with nepotism in its bloodline. That's their illogical scripts without following any physical laws in the cinematography.
The south-indian directors who are coming to Hindi cinema to remake their trash are spoiling Bollywood and its audience. I wish this "cancer" ends soon. They can NEVER reproduce such excellent works.
Raajneeti (2010)
Gripping storyline while being an analogy to Mahabharata
Great music, Awesome star cast, and equally Good performances. Might have been stretched a bit by the end, but overall a great movie. Must Watch!
