Another Marvel epic but with bolder directions.
6 February 2022
While not deviating long range from the estructual formula, Dr. Strange boldly manages to unfolds within a deeper sense of epicness effectivelty creating a nice balance between: blockbuster action and humor (the last sometimes falling cheap and forced in Marvel movies), great and imaginative visuals of grand scale that serves to the atmosphere, and a story with thematics of deeper concepts (altough self-limitied by the impositions of the formula) resulting in a solid origins story that positions as one of the best on the Marvel universe franchise.

They had me in the first half, not gonna lie.

A very americanized norwegian "edgy" comedy-action that fails to fill the void of an scarce plot with some "dark" comedy, lots of action and gore, but little thrill and even less unpredictability. Leaving as underestimated the underlying subject raised.

With acting and overall production being decent for most part, it's still seemingly lackuster at certain points.

Another vapid, bombastic and edgy one out of the Netflix' oven.

Adiós, pals.

A potentially impactful story weakened by a mediocre deliver.
28 November 2021
The delivering through a low budget standardized package of generic tv drama prevents the implications of such events to be fully developed for its own flaws of mediocre acting, underdeveloped plot and neglected atmosphere.

Still, there's something remaining that may make the movie watchable but the disappointment that it should've been much better exists.

Formulaic edgy action popcorn flick.
3 October 2021
Another brick in the wall of modern cinema. How ironic.

A pseudo-meaningful, sarcastic, grorified revenge action movie that hints with substance but ultimately remains empty. It's somewhat entertaining but doesn't do so good in the pursuit of originality.

Perfectly fine if you like to watch a narrative-empty flick about some heroe splaterring bad -and generic- guys' blood in stylized ways. But better not pretend it is a holy grail.

While technically well accomplished, it fails to deliver depth to its narrative, but mostly hits what's actually the most basic points it strives for. It's somewhat enternaining -altought it really wasn't for me, I recognize that it's made in a way it's apealling to a lot of prople-, it has some good action secuencies and hints of what we could call realism.

Appart for some touces, it's clear that the originality it's not an achievement for this movie, as it follows the typical formulas of the genre; the unvincible protagonist, the russian mafia as the bad guys, the drunk lads that trouble, the police and order lack in the city as the protagonist kills half of the world with no legal coonsequences.

It's one of those movies that success to those who actually seek for what it offers, but falls flat to a general vision.

"Home Alone" on steroids.
20 June 2020
First, I appreciate the gory parts since it's not something that you usually see in this kind of modern cinema. Then, well, an uninspired and preposterous plot about a killer revenger kid and those really dumb bad guys, with some good gory scenes. it has its glances just as the start wich is suspenful, but at the end of the day it offers nothing more.

Kevin James acting as a bad guy is pretty good, and that is one of the main factor to make this movie not so bad. The cinematography is decent, with some interesting transitions in early scenes.

So overall it's a movie that you may enjoy in a moment of boredom. But that's about it.

An space drama not for cliché action Sci-Fi fans.
20 June 2020
Most reviewers have misunderstood the point here. This is not a typical popcorn Sci-Fi flick full of action or super realistic, and it never tries to be so. Once/If you get that, then you can enjoy it.

This is a visually stunning slow, quiet and reflective journey through space that focuses in human reality and storytelling, using the beauty of space and the spatial science subject as a way and not as a main source. It's a different take on the future that I found to be authentic. Yes, the plot is somehow simple, but, it accomplishes to convey a meaning and complete the experience of all of that it pretends. The acting is pretty good, and as a said the cinematography is astonshing.

Sometimes you just don't listen to the reviews before watching a movie, since you have to experience it yourself beforehand. Otherwise, you could miss a gem.

Great visual quality but easy plot
20 June 2020
First of all, it's a good film. But it's one of those that leads you to believe it's deeper and more original than it actually is.

A not so original message behind a generic and predictable love story does not justice to the high esteem the public has for this movie.

It's an animated familiar movie, and has undoubtedly a fresh aura and impactful visuals and technical quality. But in a general viewing, the plot background and the actual development of the story fall short, appealing to generic elements that you can see in every animated/familiar movie.

As I didn't see anything really great about this movie, at the end of the day it's a good movie, but vastly overrated.

Good cinematography. Uninspired plot.
18 June 2020
Even with the "twist" of the story, it never reaches a spot out of the generic sci fi and revenge movies we've seen tons of times. Yes, it's a good one. But if you believe the hype and watch it expecting something deep, unique, or more than some action, you'll feel disappointed. "So that was it?" I asked myself at the end." Yes, it was" said the voice in my head.

The cinematography is pretty good, and so is the acting for the most part. The action sequences are solid. It's overall an entertaining experience, but nothing that lives up to the expectations some reviews may have created for you.

A formulaic -superhuman vs entire world- type of action movie that requires you not to think to enjoy it.
7 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So nothing really more than that to see here. You watch a woman driven by revenge become an unstoppable force of the universe who somehow managed to kill everyone and beat an entire drug cartel, while avoiding the police that wants her as well. Clichés, some humor and some suspense moments, but nothing out of the box.

The acting was actually good, the action scenes are aesthetically well done not considering the little credibility they have. It was kind of an entertaining flick to watch for the most part. So it has its favorable points.

On the other hand, for some reason this type of -unconventional superhero- movies it's really popular, and it's okay. But this was a reminder for myself about why I'm not into them. Not the type of person who demands "super realism" in movies, but I can't enjoy randomness or situations that get silly out of the little credibility they evoke.

How a vile but capable mind will work to cover its real nature?
12 May 2020
Note: If you will vote this review, read it completely before. Judge the arguments and not the rating.

I think that is, at the end, the point of this movie. It is obviously not about the crimes per se, it is about the nature of wicked individuals and how their personalities would disguise their inner evil to make them appear something that they are clearly not: ordinary people. Thus, making others empathize for them, feeling something for them, and affecting their lives negatively. It is just a take on other side of well known events. And some people did miss the point here.

I speak from the perspective of those -few, I presume- people that didn't know about the actual events before watching this film. And I think that it helped to the immersion of the story, and definitely to understand the approach they took on this. I was during most part, rooting for Ted and believing he was actually innocent. And it's because of this, in part, that I can say they did a good work on showing how unsuspecting a different perspective can take us, without prior knowledge, to fall for it. Because even the more evil ones can have people supporting them as it's shown here. So, the mood of the movie does not come close to be wrongfully chosen or done, since it's basically a representation of what Ted Bundy really was. A wolf disguised as sheep, or even as a clown I could say. He was definitely a disgrace, but his acts would ever reflect that. But quite the opposite.

Technically speaking, it's of a high level. Consisting with a great cast and really good performances overall. The settings, the overall design, atmosphere and the recreation of the footage were on point. Also, I think it's a good the approach they took for the direction and the editing, maybe something different.

Then well, the movie maybe lacks of development in certain areas just as the relationships and the actual events. Possibly because of the limitations of time. There's ton of material, but this is not a documentary after all.

I think this film definitely deserves a chance stripped of prejudice.

"Watch the girl squad kick bad man's arse for 109 minutes", the movie.
11 April 2020
Nothing wrong about trying to deliver a message, but when you do it in such a blatant way it becomes almost like a parody. You can't base the entire film out of a political ideology and give it no more to lean on.

What we have here is a generic and even nonsense "kinda comic action movie" with some decent features just as the action choreography and cinematography, but with mayor weaknesses, those being the plot, the lack of characters development, the events and the whole idea of the movie itself.

While it's not a boring flick per se, it fails to pull out any kind of interest out of the spectator. You'll be pretty much watching some generic bad guys being beaten in the most stylish ways, decorated with the most cliché and predictable elements you could imagine for an action movie. The plot, seems to lack of real effort spent because it's all over the place. The main villain? It couldn't be more goofy and generic. The events? Some scenes and characters actions are inexplicable or nonsense, even for this kind of movie. There's nothing really captivating about all of it.

As I said, there are some positive point here and there. The acting is mostly good and so is the visual presentation overall. This includes the action choreography sequences, which are well done.

So well, it will probably be a major disappointment if you sit through it expecting to watch a decent movie.

The shift into the ordinary action-comedy that fails.
15 February 2020
A simple and not so well executed story, little humor, and even less horror or thriller. This is a flawed but decent movie in what it tries to do. The thing is it doesn't try that much.

This movie starts fine but it changes the course to go for a very bland comical action approach that ends anywhere, with an emotional ending trying to give meaning to something that doesn't have one. It'd still be good if this change was well-made but well, I went from intrigue to boredom by the second part of it while seeing a movie trying a bit too hard to be somewhat dark-ish and funny at the same time.

Decent idea, fairly entertaining, it had its moments and wasn't bad technically speaking either, so I give it a 5/10.

No intrigue, no horror, not disturbing. An overlong movie that doesn't deliver all of that it pretends.
12 February 2020
While I don't think this movie is awful as some reviewers claims, it's certainly not a great one by any means. As a matter of fact, it's a lackluster one. When I decided to watch this movie, I was promised a twisted horror and provocative trip. As it ended, I couldn't help but feel disappointed.

It's okey if a movie chose to develop at a slow pace, as long as it serves the experience. But this is not the case, as it stretches too much for the lack of substance the story offers. The progression of the key part of the story lacks of connections or meaning between the sequences. It's also predictable. Don't expect twist or surprises, since they won't be there.

As for the horror component. Well, I don't think it was really there. You can check some gory parts but the feeling or the emotion of it was totally missing here. I could say it's not psychologically scary or graphically grotesque, it's just weird.

Now, I have to give it some credit for the technical aspects of the movie that are actually very well done. The acting is good and it's graphically believable. So it's the basic idea of the movie. It may not be something very original or that hasn't been made, but it could work pretty much if it was differently done.

In conclusion: I will not say it's the worst movie I've ever watched, as some tend to say when disliking something. But well, I'm still talking about an average movie in terms of quality that will probably disappoint you if you believe the hype.

The Nightingale (I) (2018)
4/10
Appealing to a touching matter isn't enough.
9 February 2020
I will start saying that I really liked the first 15-20 minutes, and I had high hopes for what was to come. Sadly, I ended very disappointed.

The touching and rough nature of the matter and story leads most of the reviews to praise this movie without limits. But the reality is that "The Nightingale" is just a revenge film that fails to deliver a convincing story about the horrors of colonial times, as it falls into a heavily bias and almost caricatured good boys vs bad boys story.

This film is also technically bad. Bad editing and weird direction. The plot is simple, and it leans in a generic fictional colonial story. Once you see the first minutes, you already know what to expect. And yes, it has not twist, no addition to the story, no substance. This along with a very low pace, makes the film feel dragged out and overly long, even if it doesn't last that long.

Villains are almost like Disney villains which at least for me doesn't feel quite believable. And I had the feeling that political correctness is definitely present in this movie. The movie let you know with total clarity who are the bad guys and who are the good ones, there's almost no grey, not middle ground.

I wanted to like it. The premise is good, the acting is very solid and the first minutes along with some few scenes makes it not awful, but it's not enough to be a good movie. That's why I rate this a 4/10

Before I Wake (2016)
8/10
A great combination of horror and fantasy.
9 February 2020
First of all, while the premise and the start may suggest otherwise, "Before I Wake" is not a horror movie in all the extent of the word as it combines fantasy elements in a creative way to adopt a drama approach. So if you're going to watch it expecting a regular scary movie, you shouldn't go ahead. But you have to judge a piece entirely for what it is and not for what you want or expect it to be. So let's see.

While the plot it's not flawless it has a very interesting premise that is certainly more than well executed. The entertainment is granted as it develops at a good enough pace to not fell rushed or dragged, so that factor should be out of the question. Additionally, the technical view of the film is very well done. Good-looking and believable special effects and a very good acting. The dream monster, buddy Mr. Canker, is well-made and while it isn't scary for a horror flick, it's disturbing enough for this kind. At the end, the movie leads to an emotive ending that isn't predictable and doesn't feel cheap or corny, since it's all about a well-made resolution.

So, this wasn't what I was expected before watching it, but it was a pleasant surprise. Would I recommend it? Well, if you'll get into it expecting some scares I wouldn't. But generally speaking and judging by my rating of course I would. This is really well done.

Climax (I) (2018)

An unwatchable piece of scrap result of a bad attempt to be deep and artistic.
4 February 2020
The fact that this has a 7/10 rating scares me. It shows how easy is to make a "deep and controversially artistic" type of movie. Just throw a bunch of nonsense junk in a fancy way trying to cover a moral or polemical matter and you got yourself a genious film.

It's stretched out with extremelly boring and awful scenes to compensate the lack of content and concept, feeling like a truly waste of time. The plot is almost non-existent, the acting is average, and the second part that is suppossed to be intriguing and unsettling is nothing but painfully boring and horrible.

120+ movies rated and I've never given a 1/10 rating, until now. So, you can imagine how bad this really is. Don't waste your time with this.

Your generic/mediocre sci-fi horror movie.
19 January 2020
The generic plot and lazing writing wouldn't be a mayor issue if it was decently done. But this isn't even the case.

It is predictable till the last line, the acting is below average, special effects are poor, and chances are you'll be bored half way through. Does this mean this is the worst movie ever? Of course not, that's why it's a 3 and not a 1. There are worse ones out there.

There's not much more I can say about a flat film like this, so I'll finish saying I don't recommend you to watch it unless you're very bored.

Should I be tense, fearful or disturbed? I can just laugh.
11 January 2020
What we got here it's just another quite predictable and generic thriller with lazy writing and a touch of agenda to sell it better.

The acting as well as the overall technical aspects are good, but that's not enough. Although the plot is nothing special, it has potential to make a decent movie out of it. However, this is not the case.

The poor ending, the predictable moments. There's not so many times when what happens take you for the surprise. There are also weird occasions when the movie feels like a comedy more than anything. Even so, it managed to not keep me bored, and that's why an extra point.

So in the end, it's a lackluster thriller I'd never recommend that left me with the feeling it could have been a bit better.

Good idea but not very well seized.
3 January 2018
It's not a bad movie but it could be better. It has an original concept, the drama is well-built in the beginning and it's not predictable. But all of it is wasted by inconsistencies changes in the atmosphere throughout the film. It doesn't allow you to immerse in the atmosphere in order to make the psychological drama it's supposed to have. Also, some non-sense and cliché moments aren't helpful, although those are details. So, I wouldn't recommend it, at least as a thriller or horror movie.
