Malice (1993)
Too many twists and turns ruined it
Cumbersome and unrealistic, with too many twists and side stories that would require a mastermind and a lot of coincidences. Could have been a good movie had it ended at about 3/4 of it and focus on just one issue. The added plot and unnecessary side stories ruined it, made it not believable and absurd. When would the wife had planned all this? Did she also plan that Jett would be the husbands' high school mate, and that Andy would offer him to move with them? What for anyway? The serial killer seemed to be the main story, but turned out to be nothing, completely irrelevant and unnecessary. Too many things did not make sense in the plot.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
From good.... to bad... to very bad
Started like it was going to be a good and original movie.....then it turned bad and ultimately it completely derailed . Finished as a complete and boring mess. The script is really poor and makes little sense. After the middle point of the movie, I could not wait for it to finish. Several characters seem likeable early on. But by the end not a single one is.
Hotel Coppelia (2021)
Good movie, but not true to history
I liked this movie and was surprised by it. For once, Americans are the bad guys and depicted as Hollywood typically treats Germans, Russians, Arabs.... or anybody not aligned with US interests.
To me, the biggest problem was to announce in the opening titles that the movie is "based on true events" mixing real historic characters with fictitious ones, and events that never happened or that happened very differently. It is like if Rambo would also indicate in the opening titles "based on true events".
Most of the characters in the movie are fictitious. Tina Bazooka was a real one (there is even a beer that has her name) buy her death was very different than the one depicted in the movie.... to the point that she actually relocated to the US years after the events in 1965, and died when back to DR, at an old age.
Also, as critical as you can be of US interventions, Americans would have not been directly involved in the "dirty" aspects of the war. For sure they would have had a group of local operatives do most of the dirty job, as it was done throughout South America in the 70's .
No doubt, the prostitutes' from the brothel would have received Americans and their dollars with open (hands?). A brothel is probably the least realistic scenario for the depicted resistance events, which other than the background revolution and US invasion and intervention are fabrications and not very credible or historic.
As it is the norm these days, men are the bad guys, women the heroines, and there are several openly gay characters.
If this had been a completely fictional movie, I would have given it an 8/10. Due to the mix of history and fiction and some exaggerations/ stereotypes, I am giving it a 6/10.
Resistance (2020)
So bad
Typical Hollywood production, distorting facts and making a complete mess that not even a 6 year old would believe. If you do not mind being treated like an idiot, go ahead. Otherwise, AVOID.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
Watched with interest.... then totally disappointed
The movie was interesting while watching it. Then, as you think about it, several key things in the plot do not make any sense and you realize that the complete thing did not make any sense, and that there was no message or purpose at all.
1) The transponder used to detect the bag was not technically possible in 1980, so the whole argument goes away right there. 2) No way to fit 2 million dollars in a bag 3) An immigration officer would never allow somebody to cross the border without clothes (or any ID) 4) The air gun used by Anton to open doors would never work as depicted 5) I have no idea what he was trying to do hiding the bag in the A/C ducts.
It is completely unclear who Anton is, he is not Mexican and certainly does not represent how Cartels work. So, it did not make much sense that Bell says he does no longer understand the crime in his late days in office and is going to retire, he certainly is a very unusual character.
Mexicans have no names or personality in tis movie, they are only good for carnage and if anything they are the real new crime.
There was no single character in the movie that was likeable or relatable, other than maybe the wife.
Dark Places (2015)
Too many holes in the script
Not sure if this is just because of the adaptation, but the behavior of many of the characters does not make much sense. Was the mother trying to save the family farm for her kids? Well, she did not...Then, if what she needed was the money, buy did not care about her kids keeping the farm... why didn't she sell it, get the money and move with her sister or start a new life? The hired killer, why would he kill Libby's sister? To avoid being discovered? In his crazy mind and through the paperwork she had her sign, the mother crime was "justified" as assisted suicide, but not the daughter's... and how would he risk being discovered if she (and nobody) knew who he was anyway.... HOw come an almost stranger put the mother in contact and suggest the "solution" of assisted suicide? And he does it to help her?????
Ben's girlfriend.. .how did she know about the insurance money or that Ben would inherit any if the mother died, splitting it also with his 3 sisters? How was ultimately the mystery solved? Just when the director decided it was time to finish the movie? Because nobody really confessed what happens, and we learn what happened in the past through images that only now dead people would know.... not Libby or anybody alive.
Ben was protecting her girlfriend for 28 years even though she did not even bother to visit him or let him know she was alive? After she was an adult and her father would have no say? Even after her father was dead? And protect the killer of her own sister that killed her for NO reason? And leave his daughter with a murderer. Come on guys.....
In sum, a complete mess if you just think a little about it. It may work while you watch the movie, are "happy" with the ending and never think about it again , but otherwise this has more holes than a Swiss cheese.
How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017)
Unbelievable crap
Nothing made sense in this movie but I do not want to expend any time trying to understand this absurdity. Nicole Kidman? Really?.
Rock the Kasbah (2015)
Stereotype after stereotype to make dumb people even dumber
When you though you had seen all Hollywood stupid movies, then we got this. The big mystery is how they got so many famous actors to be part of this crap of script.
Not a drama, not a comedy, not an action movie. Just stupidity.
A Star Is Born (2018)
Absurd plot and ending
Not worth a detail review. Jus ta couple of decent songs but mostly boring and nonsense The script is poor and the ending ridiculous.
Tombstone (1993)
Horrible Hollywood crap
Unwatchable movie. Fell asleep constantly trying to watch it.
A lot of money spent for nothing, Famous actors but the plot is absurd. THey just took historic names and made something that can only be believable by 5th graders.
I do like westerners, but this is crap. An insult to intelligent people.
Ocean's Eight (2018)
Absurd plot aimed with the wrong feminist message
Somebody decided it was a good idea to exploit the female empowerment trend with this all women cast, where they all have almost superpowers and the few men characters are either villains or just dumb only usable to take advantage of.
Not a single one of the very attractive female characters shows any appreciation or interest for any man, unless you want to count Sandra Bullocks dead BROTHER.
The plot is absolutely absurd and implausible, it is not even worth discussing. But the biggest disappointment is that this film is a tool for female brainwashing with the message that men are futile and unnecessary, S.B character justifies (apologies?) her past boyfriend with a "he was great..... in the kitchen".
Big Fish (2003)
Boring and complete nonsense
Not sure if I am dumb or what.
This movie did not make any sense to me. I got bored and could not understand at all what others see on it or what was the purpose or intended message.
A complete waste of time.
Dogville (2003)
Incredibly BAD - Has to be a record.
I never thought something this bad could be possible.
I really do not know what else to say. Complete torture to watch.
The plot is awful and the whole idea of this movie is horrendous. Absolutely nonsense.
Worries me to see some good reviews, are some people that crazy to enjoy something like THIS???????? Maybe they want to play a joke on others?
This is not a movie, tis a a display of stupidity and bad taste.
Jasper Jones (2017)
Good but unsatisfactory resolution
I have to say that I watched the movie with interest.
But when finished, I was not really satisfied. The resolution of the plot is not satisfactory or credible. And it was really unnecessary. There are just too many things going on, all at the same time. Racism, sexism, incest, infidelity, romance, friendship, suicide, sport epics.... it was just too much.
It is hard to believe than in a racist town and in that time period, a white girl, daughter from a prominent white and racist guy would fall and keep a hidden relationship with a mixed race outcast. Simply not credible.
But then you throw an incest relationship in top of that, including pregnancy. And topping that, the wife hides the issue without calling the police once discovered? They basically ruined what could have been a good movie.
The Spanish Prisoner (1997)
Absurd Plot
The plot has so many holes that it does not make ANY sense at all.
Can't believe they produce something so lame, if they wanted to steal the secret and were willing to allocate so many resources including assassination, they certainly did not need any of the plot. But then they would not have a movie.
Laughable how a certificate for asylum in Venezuela looks and how a person can use somebody else's ticket to travel. changing passengers, destinations and origin airports. Thieves could read minds knowing how this smart and dumb guy (at the same time) would react.
A complete waste of time, was hoping everything would make sense at some point, but it doesn't.
Far and Away (1992)
A monumental amount of stupidity
I simply cannot understand anybody can like this movie.
Nothing is credible, I was actually wondering if I was watching a drama or a comedy. It is neither one.
Complete of absurd situations, inaccurate historical facts. A complete waste of time.
Only for dumb people.
The Prestige (2006)
I feel cheated
This is a complete mess of a movie.
Not only it does not follow the plot of the book it is based on, it violates all principles of what should be ethical when generating a plot for a movie.
The mix of historic figures like Tesla and science fiction can NEVER be an acceptable resource, except for comedy or class C Sci-fi movies.
But not only it mixes "real" magic with science fiction in order to "explain" the plot, even with the science fiction component the plot does not make sense. A few things that should have happened for the plot to be plausible:
- Tesla should be not only a genius, but also really dumb to sell (or give away?) a machine capable of teletransportation. cloning and/or duplicating objects that could make him millionaire just replicating gold.
- Bales's character wife should be really dumb not to realize she was dealing with two brothers for YEARS
- Angier had to test and calibrate the machine. That would have created SEVERAL clones of himself that were not immediately killed and had to be killed later and their bodies disposed. Quite unlikely they would accept that destiny easily.
- If Angier was making 100 shows, he would have 100 bodies to dispose....which were never discovered before the final shown and neither after it, when police would have investigated.
- It would require the machine to create not just a duplicate, but a person with all memories and same twisted thinking process as the original body.
- Why would Bale's character send Angier to see Tesla, instead of ANYWHERE else? If the argument is because he KNEW Tesla was working on cloning or tele transportations so it would be credible, why wouldn't he suspect that was the trick when Angier came back with an improved trick?
- Why is it that the two persons that drown die instantly and no attempt of resuscitation is made? They both could have survived and be revived, even with the limited knowledge of the time. The glass was broken just a few seconds after both lost consciousness. There have been people revived in REAL events after 40 MINUTES of immersion in water, and certainly it would be possible just a few seconds afterwards.
I watched the movie with interest, although it was confusing at times, it is clear that a lot of money, resources and acting power was used. But after it ended I felt cheated, the plot kills it.
It is not science fiction, it is not drama, it is not romance, it is a NOTHING. Waste of time.
The Four Feathers (2002)
A waste of time
A complete mess of a movie.
Historically inaccurate, does not follow the original book, characters do not behave according to the times the movie is supposed to happen on. The story was really hard to follow and to understand what the purpose of the movie was. None of the characters is likeable.....
Not worth a more complete review, just do not watch it, total waste of time in my opinion.
Love & Mercy (2014)
Early parts are good. Then it derrails
I enjoyed the early Beach Boys parts of the story and I wished they had been longer. Paul Dano made a great job as the young Brian Wilson and those parts of the movie were very good. I also wished there had been more of their early music and the group beginnings and rise to fame, maybe exploring better the conflict relationship with their father.
The later parts of the story were not of the same level. John Cusak was a poor casting for the role of the older Brian WIlson. There is nothing likable about his character and it was difficult to see what made his future wife get attracted to him, other than his bank account. It is the victors who write the history books, or in this case they are the ones that will sell the rights to the movie and control how some character, including themselves will be depicted. Maybe I am totally wrong about this, I have no way to know, but the important thing is that this is the way the movie made me feel while watching it, that it was a struggle about who would control Brian Wilson fortunes.
Finding Neverland (2004)
Nice movie but fake story
I have problem with movies that use real life characters and make supposedly biographical movies but they alter key elements that completely change the meaning of a film.
And that is the case in this movie. Basically just the names of the characters are true, most of the rest is fake or modified significantly from actual facts, including the main scenes in the movie. If they are going to take such licences, they should change the names of the characters and at most say "inspired on the life of..... " etc.). This killed the movie for me.
Le ballon rouge (1956)
Somewhat outdated....
I knew about this film since I was a kid and had heard great reviews about it, although I never saw it .myself when I was young
I finally got to watch it recently as an adult and although I watched it with interest and high expectations I was somewhat disappointed that it did not move me us much as I expected. I totally understand those that watched this movie when young and could identify themselves with the boy in the film. Probably at that time it was great and now they are re-experiencing those emotions with nostalgia. But I think it will not bring the same thing out of the new generations nor from the adults watching the film for the first time. In summary, it was cute, not a bad experience and one of those films that you HAVE to watch, but outdated.
Sweet November (2001)
Cheesy and absurd plot
The plot in the movie does not make any sense. Why would Sara fall for somebody like Nelson to the point to want to expend her last time in this world with him? Her character clearly did not care much about looks.... and Nelson had not done anything special until they met for her to become so interested on him. Why would she be so insistent to the point of finding his address (and getting there without being able to drive) and FORCING him to give her a ride? Don't they have taxis in San Francisco? And didn't she have many other friends after all if she needed a favor? Anyway, no matter how much a workaholic a man is, not very credible that Nelson has to be FORCED give somebody as beautiful as Charlize a ride and then needs to be FORCED to go up in her apartment "for a cup of tea" (or whatever it was) ....that ended in sex. So, the plot really killed it, the beginning looked promising, but the last part of the movie (when Sara's motives are "explained") killed for me, and was boooring.
