Sindrom Petrushki (2015)
Control freak
An interesting story about puppets and family curses. When one wants to control everything, all things are going to fall apart. The creator is so obsessed with his creation until he wants to control every move of his lover like a puppet.
A beautiful red-haired Khamatova plays the role of a girlfriend and a solid gel mannequin puppet of her lover. She is a great dancer and it shows her gracefulness in a few puppeteering performances.
The film also has some great editing on the dance scenes, switched between the real person and the puppet Khamatova during the dances with Evgeniy Mironov.
The origins of the curses was not well elaborated and the relationship among the three main characters (Lisa, Petya and Boris) were not profoundly told, probably due to the fact that it is a novel adaptation, some essential details may well be excluded.

So pure and surreal
Watched it yesterday and decided to write my first review. It is definitely not a popular movie and neglected by many.
This story reminds me of The Graduate although the intention behind is quite different. Great theme song and casting. It is kind of difficult to imagine a high school student has such realization on responsibility and thoughtfulness in a relationship. It is a cruel fact in life that relationship can be so fragile... how the two can come together and separated as time goes by.
It is the first movie Philip Chan directed and he has gone on to make many police/gangster movies. This movie is so not his style.
